It was also a heavy car compared to others, about 300 pounds more than a Camaro that year. Your GTP should beat it, you have 14 years of technology and mechanical improvements over the 90 SC, that's a no brainer. The next generation of SC's had even more improvements 94/95 and people who own the gen 1's tend to swap to the 94/95 blower.

The thunderbird sc in this video is a low 13 second car, its best run was close to 13 seconds flat. Exact mods aren't listed but i remember hearing its bolt ons, exhaust, think different rear gears, and and tune. My friend has a camero ss and it ran mid 13s all day long at the track and its stock. So the outcome of this video is exactly what it should be with these 2 cars.

The Supercoupe stock was underrated because of the Mustang GT. Rating was 215hp while Mustang was 225. But Stock Mustang would dyno at 190rwhp and stock SC's would dyno at 200rwhp. So an honest rating for the SC would be 240hp 330ftlbs. Listening to that SC I would guess double IC, ported charger, exhaust, maybe cam and head work. Probably around 350rwhp. And the SS sounded stock. To get that HP out of an SC You are going to spend around 4

The camaro probably has an sickly 305 "econo-motor". Therefore a t-bird super coupe would have the "power to weight" ratio advantage. Simple math. Duhhhhh! However, I could build the CHEVY 305 "without" a supercharger or turbo to outrun the t-bird EASY!

Nah the v8 is slower. It has a lot to do with compression. There's a lot more compression involved with forced induction. His is also either tuned and modded and that SS is auto (they are known to be REALLY slow as automatics - like 14-15 secs 1/4 instead of mid 13's the 6 speeders do), or the SS missed a gear and he got lucky. The 3.8 V6 SC is a good set-up, but it's got it's limitations. The 4.6 is a good car too, but in the thunderbird, it never got PI enhancements
@TPena92 thats what i say, i know people love manuals but i always loved autos, many times by the time the kid next to me is trying to shift, i am up and gone....
@steeldragon20002000 if the kid next to you is "trying to shift" while you're up and gone then he needs to learn how to drive his manual or let someone else do it for him. on average autos lose about 20% hp to the wheels, manuals around 15%...and the higher the hp the car has obviously the more the difference. not to mention the manual has the advantage from a dig and ecspecially from a roll (auto will win from dig if built right) but stock for stock manuals kill autos with equal drivers...
@DChristianson56 where I live in southwest va a stock iroc 305 wouldn't touch 14.4. it'd be lucky if it ran low 15s. Bristol Tennessee is where I race...closest track and a shitty one it is...5500 feet elevation. in my old 97 cobra with just k&n, hpipe and flows (stock gears, etc..) I outran my buddies 85 tuned port 305 iroc by 8 car lengths or so and was still pulling hard...and my cobra ran a real low 14 at close to 100 in bristol...it wasn't the car it was the track it smoked many camaros

Cams and exhaust are NOT "just like" or equal to a supercharger as a "power adder." Be realistic, please. plus...I don't use NOS and don't need it.

come to nc and run my ss..all i got are basic bolt ons..cold air..headers..ls6 intake and came and slp lm2 exhaust..ill wipe the floor with a thunderbird..yes SC thunderbirds are fast..but not a fourth gen LSx motor fast..he won due to lack of skill in the other car..hell the camaro would barely spin his tires..so no traction period..and in the NHRA/IHRA approved tracks and any racer you talk to.. a power adder is considered NITROUS, TURBOS, SUPERCHARGERS..cams etc are BOLT ONS

the thunderbird SC were D TUNE from the factory . AND SOME OF THE INFORMATION TO TUNE THEM UP Was SUPRESSED. TO HOLD THE SC BACK FROM TOTALLY SMOKING v8s MAN. SOme PEOPLE just don't like people using smaller motors to RACE WITH cause v8 guys get all BENT OUT OF SHAPE WHEN THEY LOSE. TO A CAR THAT HAS A SMALLER POWERPLANT. AND THAT IS FACT. actually i know what its like to run a smaller car thats info on tunnin is actually laughed at and suppressed..my dd is a modded 98 saturn..which it was never "detuned" it never had a tune..lol..but anyways...ive out ran several 5.0s due to my skill of drivin and there lack there of..now anything with a SC or turbo better be fast..look at GTP's and SSEI bonnevilles..there quick..ford did do right and make these cars RWD..im given Credit where credit is due..the camaro has no skills tho

The Supercoupe stock was underrated because of the Mustang GT. Rating was 215hp while Mustang was 225. But Stock Mustang would dyno at 190rwhp and stock SC's would dyno at 200rwhp. So an honest rating for the SC would be 240hp 330ftlbs. Listening to that SC I would guess double IC, ported charger, exhaust, maybe cam and head work. Probably around 350rwhp. And the SS sounded stock. To get that HP out of an SC You are going to spend around 4
thousand in mods.Plus the car cost around $2,500.

I have a 95 with a manual transmission and it damn runs fast. i have raced this sucker against my 95 camaro z28 and still outruns the camaro.. i guess its all in the driver right but yes the superchicken hauls ass man..

The camaro probably has an sickly 305 "econo-motor". Therefore a t-bird super coupe would have the "power to weight" ratio advantage. Simple math. Duhhhhh! However, I could build the CHEVY 305 "without" a supercharger or turbo to outrun the t-bird EASY!

The trouble with "9 sec" 4 cyl engines is they require so much boost that they are ready to explode and you are constantly working on them and always replacing broken , EXPENSIVE parts or buying new engines and/or components. these cars are light, too. It all boils down to "weight to power ratio" as a main factor.

ur right man. let me tell you something. I have two fords an f150 harley davidson supercharged and a 95 superchicken and of course they needed to be maintained and serviced but i have a 79 and a 95 camaros z28 and once something breaks down man its like you end up doing more than you bargain for.

Nah the v8 is slower. It has a lot to do with compression. There's a lot more compression involved with forced induction. His is also either tuned and modded and that SS is auto (they are known to be REALLY slow as automatics - like 14-15 secs 1/4 instead of mid 13's the 6 speeders do), or the SS missed a gear and he got lucky. The 3.8 V6 SC is a good set-up, but it's got it's limitations. The 4.6 is a good car too, but in the thunderbird, it never got PI enhancements

@steeldragon20002000 if the kid next to you is "trying to shift" while you're up and gone then he needs to learn how to drive his manual or let someone else do it for him. on average autos lose about 20% hp to the wheels, manuals around 15%...and the higher the hp the car has obviously the more the difference. not to mention the manual has the advantage from a dig and ecspecially from a roll (auto will win from dig if built right) but stock for stock manuals kill autos with equal drivers...

A 1989 Ford Thunderbird SC (5 Speed) runs 14.9 at best, stock.
While a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 n/a runs 13.7 stock, not even the best optioned camaro.
In case you're thinking "well that has one of those godly LS1's" a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z runs 14.4 thats with a tiny run of the mill 305.....

@DChristianson56 where I live in southwest va a stock iroc 305 wouldn't touch 14.4. it'd be lucky if it ran low 15s. Bristol Tennessee is where I race...closest track and a shitty one it is...5500 feet elevation. in my old 97 cobra with just k&n, hpipe and flows (stock gears, etc..) I outran my buddies 85 tuned port 305 iroc by 8 car lengths or so and was still pulling hard...and my cobra ran a real low 14 at close to 100 in bristol...it wasn't the car it was the track it smoked many camaros

Supercharger doesnt whine that loud stock. I got mine to 20psi and blew the supercharger. Gonna be getting a new SC soon and pumping it up to drift lol, this clumsy lookin machine is very agile :). Especially when its lowered

ur wrong my friend. i own a 95 tbird and a95 camaro z28. i have spent more money fixing the damn camaro than fixing the superchicken. oh let me tell you the superchicken is plain stock w/standard trans whereas the z28 has the shift kit 220 cam, and borla exhaust and still cant beat it. i ran both cars in the race track and still the superchicken beats the camaro. i'll tell u this dont underestimate the superchicken.
