  • These cars are ok, but my Gtp is just better And I don't get the hype with these cars, my 04 gtp make 280 hp with just 6 lbs of boost. These t-birds make 200 hp with 12 lbs of boost? Wtf and stock mine runs high to mid 14's in the quarter and these are mid 15's with a 5 speed manual, get a gtp and stock you can beat all the mustang gt's from the 90's

  • @91lxtasy The hype is it was an extremely fast production car for 1990 with 210 HP and 315ft lbs of tq at the rear wheels. It was also a heavy car compared to others, about 300 pounds more than a Camaro that year. Your GTP should beat it, you have 14 years of technology and mechanical improvements over the 90 SC, that's a no brainer. The next generation of SC's had even more improvements 94/95 and people who own the gen 1's tend to swap to the 94/95 blower.

  • The Supercoupe stock was underrated because of the Mustang GT. Rating was 215hp while Mustang was 225. But Stock Mustang would dyno at 190rwhp and stock SC's would dyno at 200rwhp. So an honest rating for the SC would be 240hp 330ftlbs. Listening to that SC I would guess double IC, ported charger, exhaust, maybe cam and head work. Probably around 350rwhp. And the SS sounded stock. To get that HP out of an SC You are going to spend around 4

    thousand in mods.Plus the car cost around $2,500.

  • The camaro probably has an sickly 305 "econo-motor". Therefore a t-bird super coupe would have the "power to weight" ratio advantage. Simple math. Duhhhhh! However, I could build the CHEVY 305 "without" a supercharger or turbo to outrun the t-bird EASY!

  • The trouble with "9 sec" 4 cyl engines is they require so much boost that they are ready to explode and you are constantly working on them and always replacing broken , EXPENSIVE parts or buying new engines and/or components. these cars are light, too. It all boils down to "weight to power ratio" as a main factor.

  • Nah the v8 is slower. It has a lot to do with compression. There's a lot more compression involved with forced induction. His is also either tuned and modded and that SS is auto (they are known to be REALLY slow as automatics - like 14-15 secs 1/4 instead of mid 13's the 6 speeders do), or the SS missed a gear and he got lucky. The 3.8 V6 SC is a good set-up, but it's got it's limitations. The 4.6 is a good car too, but in the thunderbird, it never got PI enhancements

  • @steeldragon20002000 if the kid next to you is "trying to shift" while you're up and gone then he needs to learn how to drive his manual or let someone else do it for him. on average autos lose about 20% hp to the wheels, manuals around 15%...and the higher the hp the car has obviously the more the difference. not to mention the manual has the advantage from a dig and ecspecially from a roll (auto will win from dig if built right) but stock for stock manuals kill autos with equal drivers...

    A 1989 Ford Thunderbird SC (5 Speed) runs 14.9 at best, stock.

    While a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 n/a runs 13.7 stock, not even the best optioned camaro.

    In case you're thinking "well that has one of those godly LS1's" a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z runs 14.4 thats with a tiny run of the mill 305.....

Bristol Tennessee is where I race...closest track and a shitty one it is...5500 feet elevation. in my old 97 cobra with just k&n, hpipe and flows (stock gears, etc..) I outran my buddies 85 tuned port 305 iroc by 8 car lengths or so and was still pulling hard...and my cobra ran a real low 14 at close to 100 in bristol...it wasn't the car it was the track it smoked many camaros
