Apparently there were Spartan I's (a failed project), Spartan II's (very rare and nearly extinct now), then Spartan III's who were sent on missions that had almost a 100% death rate. Then there were the ODST which, unlike Spartans, were not raised from birth to be super-soldiers but instead had to be broken and trained into the position. NOW it's all clear to me. Dumb moment over (until next time).

@Yceb0x NOBLE team (with the exception of Jorge) are SPARTAN III's, who are essentially watered down versions of the SPARTAN II's (See the older, and far taller Jorge and John (Master chief). ODST are Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, and are essentially space paratroopers. Better than the rank and file marines and soldiers you see in the rest of Halo, (Save of course Halo 3 ODST where you play as one, and with some) but are most certainly not SPARTANs.

There´s one thing that keeps bugging me... that can´t be Carter... read the book; Halo: Ghosts of Onyx and you will know what im talking about. The Spartan - 3´s never even had MJOLNIR armour, they had SPI witch is like a camo armour of sorts and the thing that doesnt make any sense is that the S - 3s were trained on Onyx not reach. Even the s - 3s werent on reach when it came under attack! if anyone can sort this out for me i would be very thankfull :)

@xDemonTech according to a canon announcement on bungie.net in a communique from kurt-051 and Senior Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez that kurt had removed some spartan III's and outfitted them as spartan II's because they were that good. Carter was one of the lucky ones as alpha company wiped out in operation: PROMETHEUS and beta company was wiped out in operation: TORPEDO save 2

@xDemonTech carter, emile and jun were from alpha company while kat and noble 6 were pulled out of beta company while jorge was a spartan II, there is no mention of them in the books. The battle for reach and the book occurred in 2552 (mainly) but alpha company was wiped out in 2537 so there would have been little to no mention of alpha company or beta company spartans being pulled out. Also, bungie couldn't make players not have shields so this was added after to allow players shields
