it's about fitting in with society and basically the whole concept of "looks can be decieving". edward is probably the sweetest person you would ever meet. one of the taglines for the movie is "an uncommonly gentle man"

People who judged Gump by saying these things were just wrong. the townspeople chase him back to the mansion because they thought he was trying to kill Kevin (he actually saved Kevin's life), and Kim goes up there, so does Jim, jim tries to kill Edward, Edward stabs Jim, Kim tells Edward she loves him, runs away, tells the townspeople that Edward is dead so they'll leave him alone, and goes back to Suburbia. Not very detailed, but oh well.
