Once again, you cannot prove when a fetus gains consiousness. Many women don't find out they are pregnant early enough. Some can't save up money for procedures in time. Most medical problems can't be detected before 3 months.

If I learned anything from our farm cats, overpopulation will not be a problem as far as survival. Let's say our farm that once had 3 cats turned into more than 20 over the years. Strangely enough I feel that that is a rather poor choice of example in this case. While a good example would be an abortion to prevent harm to the mother, because that is an unavoidable and tragic situation, a child produced by rape is simply a child. There is no reason beyond a highly emotional response to abort, and as such using it as an example opens up an argument or presentation to easy attacks.
While I felt that the video was logical and straight forward for the most part, I felt that it had a non-sequitur at 2:18, where it concluded that there will always be women who need abortions, and beyond that that basic insurance should cover an abortion. I feel that the video did not properly explain why those women would need abortions if there were an overabundance of sex education and contraceptives. The logical fix would be exploring the reasons women have abortions in more depth.
So it is fair to abortions given the level of medical technology of birth control, other various options which are many. Negates the need for for abortions at all except for stupid or lazy people which may not be their fault all the time. The same goes for the unfertilized egg inside of a woman's body. Once conception happens, a unique mixture of both the father's and mother's DNA are created to produce a new human being. There is nothing sensible about having sex if you don't want a pregnancy. This video promotes unhealthy decisions.

I don't see how being composed of DNA, having a particular genetic code, determines personhood. You're right, sperm cells literally are just a bunch of cells. But so are all people, essentially. So what's the humanizing factor that turns a bunch of cells into a person? I don't want to get personal, but to say that you shouldn't have sex if you don't want a pregnancy is just naive.

There have been many arguments in the past about what makes personhood. Blacks, women, Jews, mentally-handicapped...all were considered less than human at one point in history. I see no reason for intelligent people to deny that we are still making that mistake with abortion.

It's like the blueprint or plans of a building or structure; it's not the structure itself. It determines what form it will take when created.

I study philosophy and know very well about the difficulties of defining it without excluding mentally or physically handicapped people or without making human beings indistinguishable from animals (which would make meat-eating equivalent to murder). But strong theories have been based on more than genetics. In fact, it was an emphasis on genetics and biology that people used to claim black people, women, and Jews were less than human.

What I do think is naive is for someone to think that in the way people are raised in today's society, that they will actually follow that wisdom. I assure you that I am not naive about that, but I do enjoy voicing my opinion about it as often as possible. People are lead to believe that sex is love, but what is sex when it comes to abortion?

I'm against abortion because in my point of view the baby has nothing to do with their parents problems. He/she should have an opportunity to live, once he/she was created. You don't want him/her? Give him/her to someone who does.

If I learned anything from our farm cats, overpopulation will not be a problem as far as survival. Let's say our farm that once had 3 cats turned into more than 20 over the years. We didn't kill these cats. They eventually got killed off by something else, whether it was disease or what not. But guess what, a couple lived and a few wandered in from different areas(different countries for us).

Strangely enough I feel that that is a rather poor choice of example in this case. While a good example would be an abortion to prevent harm to the mother, because that is an unavoidable and tragic situation, a child produced by rape is simply a child. There is no reason beyond a highly emotional response to abort, and as such using it as an example opens up an argument or presentation to easy attacks.

While I felt that the video was logical and straight forward for the most part, I felt that it had a non-sequitur at 2:18, where it concluded that there will always be women who need abortions, and beyond that that basic insurance should cover an abortion. I feel that the video did not properly explain why those women would need abortions if there were an overabundance of sex education and contraceptives. The logical fix would be exploring the reasons women have abortions in more depth.

I don't see how being composed of DNA, having a particular genetic code, determines personhood. You're right, sperm cells literally are just a bunch of cells. But so are all people, essentially. I study philosophy and know very well about the difficulties of defining it without excluding mentally or physically handicapped people or without making human beings indistinguishable from animals (which would make meat-eating equivalent to murder). But strong theories have been based on more than genetics. In fact, it was an emphasis on genetics and biology that people used to claim black people, women, and Jews were less than human.
