  • Legendary! Steve uses Evans hydraulic blue heads on his toms which was part of his signature sound of the early 80s. The heads are still availible today and works amazingly well on all kind of drums!

  • I'v done a transcription of this in the'Up Close' book I wrote for Steve.

For a fun exercise look up 'paradiddle song' here. It's an old track with Gene Krupa and Louie Bellson with me playing both parts.

  • lesson number 1 in drumming... dont ever...EVER!!!! Dis Steve Gadd

  • what kind of drum heads are on his toms?

  • steve gadd, weckl, geribaldi, Jonston. too many to mention are so far above all you guys , I can tell by most of your comments you know nothing. you must like guys like BARFER I mean barker close, just go their and stay.thank you very much for being so stupid and not being in the way ever.

  • Does anyone have sheet music? The first part reminds me of Electric Wheelchair. lol.

  • @drummaboy2346 Electric Wheelchair, and Ledgend of the One Eyed Sailer (concord Blue Devils) were both written from this sort of as a tribute, the original is called Crazy Army and is an old rudimental drum duet with a snare and bass, Its super old there is a guy on here who has a video and plays the snare and bass parts on era correct instruments watch?v=D_brIDjDSBg&feature=related

  • real dummer...................no one believes that you are even capable of holding drum sticks anymore. Carpal tunnel from all that mopping and scrubbing toilets have taken anything you had left away huh??? Face it........you're nothing more than a wannabe musician hiding behind you computer. The fact the you go by real drummer only makes your existance on here even more pathetic!!!!!

  • And what faggot army cadence sounds so weak and unthreating as this. He's also speeding up ypu wannabe fanboyees w/out ears.

  • @Youwishyoucouldplay go back and listen to slipknot

  • @MrDrewbies If you can't play this....you are a lousy drummer IMO. THis stuff was learned in high scholl drum line by myself and many others. Only we played it much louder w/bigger sticks..

  • @realdrummer110 I can play this piece, I'm playing it for my diploma soon. But 'youwishyoucouldplay' is insulting one of the greatest drummers alive

  • @MrDrewbies You want to really impress someone? Play one of Tony Williams pieces. Too many dudes can play this..

  • @realdrummer110 I'll try, I try to play a variety of styles and different artists but mainly jazz/fusion

  • @MrDrewbies Then go studt real jazz fusion drummers like Dennis chmbers and billy cobham and tony williams. Or are they too technical for you?

  • @realdrummer110 I study dave weckl, along many other drummers. Whats with the insults? Did I ever insult you? Stop trolling.

  • @MrDrewbies You should have never accused me of being a slipknot fan son. That was your mistake..

  • @realdrummer110 I was replying to 'Youwishyoucouldplay', unless both accounts are the same person? Because it is sad that you would create multiple accounts to troll.

  • @MrDrewbies That used to be me intil some fool got me banned for hate speech..

  • @realdrummer110 I think you should take that as a lesson...

  • @MrDrewbies he wont learn, hes a lost cause.

  • @rhythmninja0987 I can tell, some people are absolutely pathetic. The thing is, I would love to see this guy achieve 10% of what Gadd has achieved.

  • @MrDrewbies its the same person, his other account(s) have been shut down do to harassment against other users. his name is jeff jones

  • sounds like the begining battery part of legend of the one eyed sailor performbed by the blue devils drum and bugle corps

  • i've got to learn the first 12 bars of this in one week!

  • @nathnryan It's not that hard!

  • is it a 7 stroke roll or a 5 cz i thought it was a 5 n ma m8 sed he has the notation n its a 7 :s but if it is a 7 stroke roll then its SUPER fast D: lol

  • it's 7 stroke, so LL RR LL R, it really isnt that fast, just start with your left stick and end with your right, it really goes out quite easy. I can do this BTW till about 1:00.

My drum teacher will give me a free pair of sticks when I can play this song before Tuesday the 24th, it's now the 19th here, so piece a cake lol :p

  • haha, i'm trying to learn this (with the notes). sooooooooooooo hard.

  • The thing I love 'bout Gadd is that his playing is so fluid and so flawless that he makes it all look somewhat easy, but you know it's not!

  • omg those roll patterns from 0:53 to 1:25 were orgasmic

  • Steve Gadd lives in a deep pocket somewhere.

  • Drums Comment Of The Year

(is steve gadd high? or is he just like that?)

  • nah he was a big heroine addict when he was around that age.... no joke there is some vidz where he is playin the drums on a box n shit :S lol wudnt dare do that shit me lyk... weed all the way :P

  • he actually was a big heroine adict... theres some videos playing drums on a box thinking its a kit :S lol but he is unreal lyk :P even high

  • Actually I think he was rushing a little at 18s and 32s.

  • The snare is a ludwig supraphonic COB

  • nice rudimental drumming :)

  • but jacob evans...this is so awesome he is allowed to play it over and over without it losing awesomeness

  • Well I know for a fact he can do more then just the same thing. This guys fucking crazy. You should check out more stuff he does he's really coordinated. And he knows the incopations between his hands and feet.

  • You're jokin', right? For the love of god, man!! Please just be kid'n........

  • your an idiot. hes does plenty of other stuff. you obviously don't know what your talking about.

  • now, when was the last time you heard a set snare sound that good?

  • keep this chat alive :D

  • It sounds so easy when he plays it

  • It is easy mate..... and fun too. This bit is so widely varied, you can run it everywhere. STEVIE GADD!!!

  • its sounds to fast

  • lol steve is so young here

  • Compare this video in 1981 to him playing the same solo in 2005.

He's made some modifications to the solo, also his accents are a lot more exaggerated in the 2005 video. Might just be a thing with age and the concert hall he's playing in.. but, here even with the tape and low tuned drumhead, everthing sound's much tighter.

You're one of my drum hero's Steve Gadd! May your music live on forever!

  • true :-)

  • this guy is fucking awesome

  • love them smooth sevens whew

  • the best snare solo everr
