NO WAY!! THIS is an 8-bit system?? This looks incredible! Why did it fail? I love the old Nes, but had I got one of these it would be an entirely different story!!
@rang3r34 Haha, can't blame you... there must have been no-one outside of Brazil playing Master System at that point... Wikipedia says that to make playing it possible, a 6-button Master System controller was bundled with the game
@stufa1978 Similar story with the Megadrive. It blew the NES away in Europe while it still had a strong following in Japan, even when the SNES came out.
To me it often seem's it's Americans who have some massive fetish / hard-on for the NES.
Hence why the most Expensive retro NES games are often American versions.
when all I had was a nintendo I wanted street fighter so bad.....its kind of lame that they could do this on master system but wouldnt do it on nintendo....say it, say it SEGA!!!
right, but I was just pointing out that this game was released LONG after 8-bit systems were technically obsolete. It's still nice, but it would've been more relevant if it had been released back in 92/93.
Yeah yeah, but the Master System still sold very well here in Brazil.
And most people didn't have enough money to buy a Mega Drive, that's why TecToy made a conversion of Street Fighter II Champion Edition to the Master System.
which is great, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just that the person a few posts up said these graphics "were impressive for the time" and that's a ridiculous statement to make for 1997 when we had arcade perfect ports on home consoles. It's like calling Mega Man 9 the most technically impressive WiiWare title, it just makes you go O_o
I think what they meant when they said "impressive for the time" is that it's good by Master System Standards. Remember the Master System hardware has not changed since 1985 when it came out. So theoretically any game made on it could have come out much earlier.
I'm sure people would have really liked this game if it had of come out back in the 80's.
But I think it's still an impressive port, and it's interesting to note that it's actually not a pirate game.
@Disthron I know, I already addressed that. I even said in one of my posts that it would've been impressive if it came out in 92/93 when the others were released (SF II wasn't even in arcades yet in the 80's). There's really not much of an excuse either seeing as Mortal Kombat was ported pretty nicely (used to play the hell out of that on Game Gear).
Man, I had Mortal Kombat 2 on the Game Gear. It rocked. I was so impressed by how good it looked and played. They probably couldn't get the licenses back then. Remember 1992 was well into the 16bit era of console gaming I think at that point the only new game coming out on the Master System were ports of Game Gear games.
Fail game.. I prefer the snes game :)

For an 8 bit game this looks amazing. I can't believe how rich the colors are. You could never do that on the nes.

The Sega Master System was quite popular in Mexico too, in fact this was the first console I ever owned.

The Master System was actually a favorite in UK and much of EU too. Over here it outdid the NES.

@stufa1978
And that's for a reason...better technical specs, graphical quality and amazing exclusive games such as phantasy star and ultima

i never knew they had it for the master system, not bad for a 8 bit for that time area
mrquietstorm 3 years ago
for that time era? it came out in 97, most systems at that point could make near arcade perfect 2D ports.
neogeon 2 years ago
Yeah but...Master System? An 8-bit system couldn't do that.

Oooooh, now I got it.
But he also mentioned the name "8 bit", and as far as I know, 8-bit consoles couldn't do perfect ports at any time era. xD
