When i was there we stayed for 2 days on the resort, and 1 hour before closing there was almost nobody there and literally no waiting line. The time it took me to run from the exit to the entrance, over and over again, was longer than the ride xD

When I went on the ride in March, I was in the front and able to see the track, so I knew what was happening, even though it was dark. But it was still a really fun ride! I actually wish the line for it would've been longer so I could have played the games in the queue.

@westiesinwonderland: The lights are on before and after the park is open. They also come on in the event of an emergency. Normally the ride itself is pitch black with the only light being from the "stars" that are all over the ceiling, support beams and floor. It does have an incline but the ride itself only goes 27 mph and the drop is only 23 feet but in the dark it seems a whole lot bigger.

@tehslicer Oh my God, me too! I live in LA, so I go to the one in Anaheim...but it's the same thing. Even though it's dark, you can just FEEL the bars swooshing past you, and they feel REALLY close. The only reason I watched a "Lights On" video on Space Mountain was to make sure that on my next trip, I can wave my arms in the air without them getting chopped off :)

@legomaker8 you don't - its pitch black and you don't know where you're turning, how the coaster is gonna swerve, so it removes the body's ability to anticipate anything. Also don't look at the video, your sense of direction will be completely screwed. Pretty fun ride to try out.

@coastermaniac16 Space Mountain has never operated with the lights on. This was for a special event for Coaster Con XXIX. Disney intentionally allowed the ACE to ride with the lights on to give them a backstage experience. The only time the lights have come on otherwise were for breakdowns.

Never understood the theme for this ride. What does a coaster have to do with space travel? When you're in space it does not feel like a rollercoaster. Also, when you ride with the lights out you can't see shit. All you do is bounce around for 2 or 3 minutes. Always have and always will think this ride sucks. Must of been thought up by one of Disney's relatives to try to prove their usefulness.
