I was using a bow and the pig wasn't but 20 yards away but i couldnt get no window to shoot through cause of all the branches and vines. The one i missed was around 400lbs. We used to catch hogs alive using dogs and resell them to outfitters (before they changed the laws). Knives got used on the little ones. For the most part, you're right, it can be dangerous, but it is exciting. Not that terribily challenging. However, I much prefer a spot-stalk bow hunt... and I've never missed or lost a pig with my bow... not one.
