Sitting in the corner of my first pub the queen vic in st.neots uk,ready to run out the back door if the ol bill came in ,only 14 and this used to be playing on the juke box.Oh what great care free times were the 70s. Even though the landlady knew I was to young she still let me in,no probs.
This version could not be anymore caucasian or souless.Maybe if the name of the band was White Masterson and The Overlords of The Brown Skin Savages. At least Jerry grew up in a town with a black person.I think maybe Rod Stewart is a time traveller and is responsible for slavery in North America.Just so he could rip off white men who socialized with black people....Like Jerry Lee.Stay on your side of the ocean.Lousy, fog breathin, queen lovin,Agitha Christy readin, gun hating, palmys
@jolem5000 two words mate.........shut up lol what the hell are you babbling about bloody slaves and savages to start with the song has buggerall to do with that what so ever you muppet
I'm not a big Rod Stewart fan but this is the best version of this song i've heard,.Angel which was released with it as a double A record is a cracker as well. His other early stuff was also good. Maggie May, You wear it well, Cindy Incidentally,Oh no not my baby and In a broken dream were all classic hits
Stupid....Put down the pint, bleach your teeth. Love Rod as much as anything, he can't hang with "The Killer" on this one. Jerry nails this one by a mile.
The Mercury Anthology 2 CD album is by far Rod Stewart's best years. About 1969-74'. He crosses over with, The Faces material which is so underated. So many great obscure songs on Mercury Anthology. Back when Rod had it all and really let it rip. Absolutely worth getting.
thank you, thank you, thank you. i was beginning to think that i was was wrong about hereing that version when i was young and my older brother was a HUGE Stewart fan. i couldnt find it any where

Rod sings this better, in fact, GREAT, on Jerry Lee's album, LAST MAN STANDING.
They do a fantastic version together.

This IS a country song written by country music song writer Glenn Sutton. Jerry Lee is untouchable on this in my humble opinion.

Not too bad. This must have been recorded quite awhile ago. Caught a recent concert on PBS and it was embarrassingly bad.
