  • Thanks for the guide, worked a treat.

  • Thanks for this guide. Saved me gobs of time reading up on profiling m8. :)

  • Probably never would have figured out how to do this without the help of this video. You should also add that background hardware monitoring must be enabled for these profiles to work. I discovered this after running my card up to 90C in Furmark with the fan never going above 40%.

  • hey how i can back my old version of fan speed ,voltage and temperatur?

i can reinstall win 7 again? its possible? sorry my bad lang

  • very helpful, thank you:)

  • Thanks! Great vid helped me tons :)

  • Hi, I cant get mine to work and i'm not too sure how to check. For the 1st customize button that i clicked, i only have 3 icons there: low-level refresh rate setting, low-level desktop color schemes and graphics subsystem diagnostic report. I'm using a samsung r480 laptop with Nvidia Geforce GT330M. Would really appreciate any help i can get. Many thanks in advance!

  • tnx man .

  • Do know how to get this to work with two graphic cards? I have created the fan profiles for both cards. When I go to set the items under the 'Launcher' tab, it works fine for which ever one is selected on the 'Main' tab. For the other card it says, "Fan profile is no longer valid or it is corrupted. Do you want to edit menu item and browse for another profile now?" If I switch cards on the 'Main' tab, then the profile work fine for that one, but now not the first. Thanks for your help.

  • Great! Very helpful.

  • Wow i almost ruined my GPU cuz of this..

I decided to check if it worked, so i started FurMark, without running RivaTuner..

After a minute i was worried.. cuz my fans were still on 40%, so i started Rivatuner, and then fans went up to 100%, but at that time my core temp was at over 100C!!

I know, it's my fault cuz I should have read the description.. However, you could have made it a bit clearer :/

Oh well, my GPU still works fine, although that's a miracle i guess..

  • @YstenID how the fuck did you get your gpu 100 degrees??? i swear to get this high your fans would be either dysfunctional or clogged up with dustballs

  • @ZiomASek300 probably dust inside the card or something.. I have removed all the dust on the top. i got nVidia gtx 275, and apparently it can handle a few sec on 100+ degrees :P

  • there is no system setting

  • How to do this in an ATI card?

  • Hello there Sir... can you help me overclock my graphics card? its a Inno3D Geforce 9500 GT 512mb ddr2. I dont know the exact core clock, shader clock, and memory clock so that I can get a stable overclock of my GPU.

  • thx nice work ;-)

  • btw do you need to keep rivaTuner on all the time while playing games or it doesnt matter? it helped me a lot.

  • ty SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!

  • lol i fail at the first step since the icon isn't even there.

  • This doesn't work for me. The fan duty cycle doesn't follow the profile. It just stays where its manually dragged to. The only way its automated, is if I set back to auto control instead of direct control, in which case the nvidia auto lets it get hotter than hell. Anyone know what's wrong? No one else has mentioned this problem. I followed to the letter.

  • @jaylenoh Go to the Scheduler tab and press the pause button, then press it again to unpause it and reset the schedule. It turns it off if you set the fan speed manually so you have to turn it back on again.

  • First off i don't have the hardware monitoring button, i also dont have the customize button for force ware detected, can you please help, i did everything right.. i hate computers.

  • i didnt know u get blue screens when ur card get to hot thanks

  • nice guide

  • Thank you so much!! This one really helped me out a lot! Keep up the good work :D

  • Still one of the best Riva tuts on YouTube.

  • Stellar video, THANK-YOU!!

  • and what about gaming? ..i have a gtx 280

  • my card is geting 102 deg F. HELP ME!!! DX

  • @yoyobeerman1289 102 F.... lol that's only like 60 C your fine mate lol

  • umm on my rivatuner it doesnt say customize next to where it says forceware detected?

  • @TheBlueMnM1 mine dont even have a forceware detected DX help me bacender

  • Thank you alot!

  • Fantastic tutorial. Thank you!!

  • Great tutorial. Don't have to say it, you probably saved my gfx card's life.

  • hey i have a question i have a nVidia 9400 GT this will afect my pc if i dont do it right ?

  • RIVER TUNA!!

  • thanx man.my gpu temp was reaching 90 c easly when im playing. (gta iv bfbc2..).now it stays for hours at 65 c in game and max fan speed 80% .awsome tutorial :)

  • Alright! Thanx!

  • why i dont have this that is on second 9 (0.09) i have only 2 low something and the other i dont remember can any1 help me with this i am with : nvidia gt 420m (laptop) and core i5 i want this programe so i can make my laptop faster please send me massages for contact :/

  • This is very very nice! good job

  • when i start my pc it popup a window that i should update my rivatuner. but i can only find the 2.24 verison and thats the one i got :S

  • there was no "Hardware Monitoring" option under "Customize" for me. Can you help?

  • isn't 15second enough time to burn ur gpu in case it's being used hard ?

    Still awesome tutorial, really useful.

  • @kimnig if your able to cause a card to stay at a burning temperature long enough for it to break at 100% fan speed, then you are doing something horribly wrong or have over clocked too far

  • I want to thank you for this video,

I've been using the profiles for over a year now and it works great.

    Very helpful, thanx again

  • this is a great tutorial

  • thanks - really well done

  • thanks alot.

  • i cant customize my driver settings can you please help me

  • Thanks for this tutorial! I always wondered how to set this up and it works like a charm!

  • you

    are

    a

    GENIUS!

thx so much for this video! Framerates went from 54 to 71 (30% more!) and the fan never goes above 70%.

  • I'm running this with a 9800gt, and I've followed this setup word-for-word, but my temps are reaching 105°, and the launcher does not activate the 100% fan speed. In fact, the fan speed just stays at 50%.

I was better off just using the built-in software.

  • I'd say those gaps between the colours are due to the temperature increment of 1C between each profile, rather than being a graphical glitch.

  • nice video

  • Thank you very much! You helped me save my Video card :) You Rock!!

  • my GPU Temperatura keeps going up and down up and down every 2 secons

but my games are better now and i am not getting that monitor crash, so thanks for u but tell me how can i make my gpu on a stable temperature

  • thank you my monitor was crashing repetedly and with this shit it hasnt crashed

thanks u (IT WORKS ON GEFORCR 7500LE)

  • thank you my monitor was crashing repetedly and with this shit it hasnt crashed

    thanks u

  • Great vid, nice work, no more pink screens of death now!

  • helped alot!

  • thank you loved the video :) <3

  • Thanks!!! Very nice!

  • I don t have a drivers setting button. How do I fix this ?

  • Can i fuck up my graphic card with this Rviatuner?

  • over my ATI pnp screen under it stands No additional information available and i just have 2 settings on the customize button =???

  • Can it be used on a laptop with an ATI video card?

I couldn't configure it like that...

  • So... When i have created athe fan profiles and "Scheludered" them can i change the "Direct Control" to "Auto Control" without messing with the scheluder? Or should i just keep it as direct control? Ty!

  • hey.. bro ihave w7 x64 bit and also have 5770x2 ati videocard when i installed new revatuner 2.24 version i dint see the DRIVER SETTINGS ,would you tell me how to make this work on w7 x64bit

  • Thanks for this video :)

  • Hi! I have a problem. I dont have a customize context menu in Driver setings. Why? If someone know why please send mi a mail/message.. Thaks

  • Hold on! How come i can't set 100% fan speed under "low level system setting" ? Max its 75%.

  • Man i love you. No homo intended but you solved my problems! Thanks a bunch.

  • Really helpful guys thanks

  • hey i have XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+ ,and i just wanna aks you, when i am playing a game, the fan goes up to 80%,that is good ,but when i get out of the game ,the fan isnt going down,he stays on 80%,and when i transfer to direct control ,he starts to go down,i mean fan, then he goes down do 60% or 55% ,or something like that ,but why isnt fan going slower automatically, why do i have to do that?????thanks....;)

  • i have XFX GeForce 9800GTX+,and sometimes it goes up to 70 degrees....what bad can happen????thanks

  • Hey man I wanted to take a min out to say TYVM!! I have a fairly decent comp.

    Intel core i7 920 2x nVidia GTX 260's

    12 GB DDR3 Ram

    on a Hannspree 28" HDTV @ 1900x1200

    Im a WoW raider/wannabe pvp'er

I noticed that in raids I was gettin about 80C not terrible but I would hear my fan rev up then slow down then rev up slow down etc. I implemented your tut. and I gotta say Ive noticed a much smoother performance, TBH its what I expect from this comp from the get go. Not gone above 66c tyvm

  • benefited from your tutorial clip, thank you very much!!! ;)

  • Ok I'd appreciate if you could help me with this, whenever i try to save my settings to 40% or whichever other fan speed it automatic jumps back to the default setting ..

    I'm using a 9600 GT.

  • @windowsmaster1

You still have the Customize button the the graphics card one (the top one).. click customize on that and do the same again but without the Driver customizer. Tahats what i did.. now its running at 25'C

  • Thanks a ton mate . since I've done this my gpu has not gone above 72 C , where as before it used to go up to 90-95 C

  • Cheers dude, really helpful!

    *Like*

  • Thanks, this helped alot. I was using MSI Afterburner for a day before I got sick of Powerplay on the 4670 (made alt tab times rediculous). Always loved rivatuner above all other OC software

  • Very nice; thanks

  • Thank you very much. I've been using manually-controlled profiles before (which works fine), but ran my fan speeds a little higher than needed, from 60-70% for most games. Now I can set them a little lower for a quieter PC without having to worry about monitoring my temps every so often. Thanks! :-)

  • Awesome. Thanks for the help.

Lets hope this keeps my games from going poof. :P

  • Thanks man - good teacher!

  • Wow this is so screwed up while I was gaming there fan profiles didn't kick in and the retarded nvidia fan control went to 30% while my gpu was flaming at 90c my normal is 60c.

  • Thank you for the tutorial I find that the nvidia fans are stupid and work like you said causing many headaches and much cursing

  • great work ! very useful for me, thanks.

  • this is an epic tutorial. i had the same problem as goodday2yousir - the fan speed would reset seemingly whenever it felt like it, and i was getting up to the high 90's while under load. using this i've added another 20-25% clock speed and the temp stays around low-mid 80's.

thanks a lot for taking the time to do this *thumbs up

  • thanks a million for the simple guide idle temp for my card is now a nice an chilled 55 :)

  • My Fan Speed Keeps restarting and going back to 25% while im in a game giving me black screens and I cant figure out how to fix it

  • A very useful tutorial. I just wanted to know if the fan runs on more than 95% for long periods of time, say 4 hours or so continuously would it damage anything....like the fan? I follow your video step by step but my fan speed starts from 94%......? A bit confused here :S

  • I'm do exactly this, yet my fan speed doesn't change at all. There's no noticeable sound different. I'm running Vista, 8800 Ultra, and 197.45 drivers. Help?

  • Totally excellent. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial!

  • This tutorial is fantastic! Thanks a lot!

It misses one important scheduler event to reset things though >> "at riva tuner shutodown" set fan to "auto control"

  • wow thank you so much for making this video it helped me out soooooo sooo much nivida gpu fan are really bad today it kept going out and i had to call for help so i searched this up and mad did this make a difference my gpu was going at 83c and i was getting worried so i did this and now I'm running at 71-74 average it has helped me incredibly i don't know how much to thank you for those of you thinking about it when your gpu is hot i strongly encourage u to do it it will help a lot.

  • Very useful and I've used it about three times now. Easy to follow and understand. Thank you very much!

  • Thank-you so much! When i play GTA IV, about 30 minutes into the game my screen turns off, but the PC is still running. It was overheated, now it doesn't! THANKS!

  • What driver should i use for my Nvidia 9500m GEFORCE that is compatible with the fan?

  • Urhm, whenever I try to make fan profiles and click a certain percent i.e. 60 %, and when i press apply it jumps back to 35 %... Anyone knows why? Would be AWESOME.

  • Hey thanks for the great vid, dropped my gpu temp down to 58c from 76.

  • ive installed the update on rivatuner and still no fan tab on it >.<

  • Thanks for this so well explained tutorial

  • thanks a lot that did help bring my gpu temp down

  • Awesome, Thanks Bacender for the help!

  • Great Video! But how do you get to show the temperature on tray? I managed it but

I can only see it in one color, I remember my old computer switching colors depending of the temperatures.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks so much! My two 285's get way too hot by default but this helps soooo much. Cheers.

  • I have an xfx 8600 gts :| and i realy did everything but some times it just ...

goes back to 30% ...and my video card `freezes` when it rices 80 degrease :|

    i realy need help ...

  • @R3spaWn89

make sure rivatuna is open when ur on your pc

and open up the monitoring screen too

  • @pyromaniac1223 wheal rivatuner starts on start`up and it`s usig the 60% , 80%, 100% and some time it just slow back to 30% ... i really don`t get it

  • in the right part...) then everything was on minimium....i was like wtf... cuz i remember when i first used riva tuner all the settings were on the middle....now that all is on lowest how the fuck will i underclock my graphics card omg im desesperate and the only person that could help me with that is too busy to give me a hand

im desesperate to fix that...omg halp!! T_T

  • omg....i formated my pc and bought new hd for it cuz my old one was shattered.

long time ago there was a good tuto bout rivatuner and i knew how to do almost everything (im female and nub on those things) but i forgot kinda almost everything..

i have gtx285 and any game or even aquarium screensaver i try to launch makes my comp almost crash ( i had same prob before but i underclocked my graphics card and put fan louder so it got fixed) then i tryed to change the clocks (im not sure if i was in

  • Thanks alot man, this has really helped me alot, very easy to follow, very clear picture and mic quality.

was worried my card was sitting at 70~ playing certain games and now you could have saved me alot of ££.

  • Excellent tutorial mate. Helped me out heaps, thanks.

  • cheers m8,

    im a 3D artist in learning [ 1 year 2 month XD]

im using octane render which lives on the GPU [fast and photorelistic renders]

My graphics card is a gtx 285 and the temp was at 85 C

now it is at 69 C and decreasing cheers.

    A bit noisy tho lol.

  • Do these settings good for any graphics card?

  • Thankyou clever Aussie person ;)

  • my grafix card wont show it that it only shows my monitor plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me

  • Hey Bacender...great vid and I like your voice clarity ;) One question...I have a gtx 295, so I have 2 gpus. Do I need to do the last part for the core temperature for my "GPU2?"

  • Rivatuner has to always be running right? so i should make it a startup program?

  • Thanks, very informative video :)

  • is there a way to adjust the other fans in my computer with riva?

I think the PSU fan is fine but theres a pretty large fan in the center of my case (cpu fan?) that i'm wondering if i need to speed up, sometimes my screen freezes and the last second or so of audio loops, I have to hard boot using the power switch when this happens because I lose all control. (only during gaming)

I'd also just like to know for the future since i plan on building an OC'd SLI 9800gt system.

  • (cont.d) My computer isn't fully stock its a gateway that I tinkered with, added a couple gigs of ram and switched out the old 8500gt for a single 9800, also upgraded PSU from 400 to 650w since i plan on needing the extra power soon when I rebuild most of my system.

When these crashes occur and I boot right back up I check my core temp in riva and its usually around 65-70c. I didn't think it was supposed to be an issue until 80 or 90c but maybe its dropping a lot of heat on the crash.

  • Thanks for making this video, it helped me out a lot to set up a fan profile for my gtx260. I didn't like how the drivers kept the fan speed at 40% all the way up until 72c, creating a custom fan profile helped to keep the temperatures lower while still keeping fan noise tolerable. Didn't even know rivatuner had such advanced options.

This is what I've been using initially:

    40%: 0-55c

    45%: 56-65c

    50%: 66-73c

    55%: 74-78c

    60%: 79-82c

    70%: 83+c

  • your the man!!! Thanks!!!

  • Thank you very much for this useful and easy to understand,step-by-step guide. :)

  • Thanks for the helpful video, I've been getting a lot of artefacts in game as of late, hopefully this'll sort it out

  • Thanks man

  • This is rather Odd. My graphics card doesn't have a Fan. But I have the fan tab O_o

  • what version of rivatuner are you using?

  • i keep forgetting how to do this this is the third time ive watched this

  • Thank you rly much mate =) i got a 8800gts from a friend the other day and i was worried of it getting to 75 while playin and in about 80 i had some Grafical errors but now i think i got the temp under Controll thank you very much mate =)

  • when i drag to 40% it drags back to 35% and dont increase

  • Thanks alot dude I really appreciate you taking the time to do this video, my GPU was getting me worried because I wasn't sure if any proper fan control was implemented, now I know im safe and sound:-)!

  • Great stuff, thanks.

  • my* gpu

  • Hi, i do not have the fan tab. My graphic card is Geforce G105M. Tried installing other versions of rivatuner but still the same. Is it that i don't have a fan or something? Please help me as i m GPU temperature is always high and kept having crashes in game.

  • The G105M is a mobile graphics card (laptops).

As such, it probably does not have its own dedicated fan, or is part of a larger heatpipe controlled by the BIOS.

  • @Bacender i have an nvidia 310m with cuda running with 2 video cards (dual) do u think i can possibly increase that speed?

  • @Bacender correct.

  • hey bacender...about your FAQ, the first one. Q: Does RivaTuner have to be in my tray / running for this to work? here in youtube you wrote "YES, IT DOES" but i saw this tutorial in some other site and you answered "No" in the other site..it's a little bit confusing. Which is true? "YES" or "NO"?

  • every time the fan speed increse the resolution change to minimum and i have to change the resolution back manually...

  • awsome thank you so much!

  • Thanks a lot for the tutorial! My graphics card was running hot as hell till i came upon this video. Just wondering, would i need to open up rivaturner every time I turn on my computer? Or would it automatically apply the affects everytime I log on?

  • Great tutorial.

One question though. Your faq says that riva tuner doesn't have to be running for this to engage. However, my profiles only activate when rivatuner is open. Do I need to enable the 'run at windows startup' option?

  • That's a mistake, and has been fixed. Thanks for bringing to my attention.

  • No problem.

I've implemented the ideas in this tutorial, but I find that the temps creep up, the fan increases, gpu cools, fan decreases - and then repeats after about 2 minutes. It kind of goes into a loop.

Before adjusting in RivaTuner, my load temps were 85 (didn't even hear the fan, don't know what it was waiting for before really kicking in).

Should I increases the gap between the temp thresholds?

  • The way i combat that is by making more fan profiles. I kept the video short by only using 40, 60, 80, and 100. On my own computer i use 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100% fan profiles.

    The gaps are as follows:

    40% = 0-55°C

    50% = 56-60°C

    60% = 61-65°C

    70% = 66-70°C

    80% = 71-75°C

    90% = 76-80°C

    100% = 81-infinity°C

  • @Bacender i'm using the latest version, 2.24. the rivatuner is closed and the settings stills working according to the riva settings.

  • @Bacender i have XFX GeForce 9800GTX+,and sometimes it goes up to 70 degrees....what bad can happen????thanks

  • I have a GT220 and my PC keeps crashing due to overheat my PC is on idle at 70 - 75 and during gaming its over 100 and I want to increase the speed of my fan. However Riva is giving me "No Additional Information Available" and I don't have the menu to change my fanspeed can you please help.

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for this tutorial but I have a question.

Do i have to start rivatuner in order for the profiles to to its job?

  • Read the FAQ in the description. Re-watch the video annotations.

  • @Bacender Sry for the stupid question. But hell yeah first time i have heard my fan go up to 100% aha:P. No more crashing in games now thanks allot.

  • Have fun.

  • Hello Bacender. i noticed you have the graphic card pic with "customize" under Target adaptor which I do not have. From what I read it got something to do with the "low level system" option enabled. How do I do that?

  • Why is it that when i pulled my tab to 40% and click apply, the tab will revert back to its original value (35%)?

  • Driver issue most probably.

Would be helpful if you specified what graphics card, operating system, and driver version you're using though!

  • 9600GT, windows 7 32 bit, 192.21. All my games had been crashing within 5 mins of gameplay due to 196.75 overheating issue. But despite reverting back to the old driver the card is still overheating, all my games are still crashing like no tomorrow. Thought of using this to solve the heat problem.

  • for sli, I suppose I'd just want to make a core temperature range at 40,60,etc for both gpu 0 and 1?

  • hmm...seems to only work for my setup when I've got rivatuner open. I can click ok and close it and it'll stay on whatever fan setting it's at, but doesn't change. I then open rivaruner again, open the hardware monitoring graphs and then it starts to change the fan speed as it should, and if I ok out of rivatuner again, it just stays at the current fan speed until I open it back up and display the hardware monitor graphs again....any suggestions?

  • thanks mate this helped me keep my gtx 260 overclock cool as a cucumber, five star vid

  • Thanks a Million, Excellant Guide! +Rated/Subscribed.

  • Excellent tutorial. I'm not overclocking, but, I've burned out two previous cards on my old machine, and now that i've finally got a new computer, I'm wondering if it's worth doing this from the start. I had no idea that nvidia cards are, by default, allowed to "cook" a bit before the fan kicks in.

  • Brilliant thank you very much

  • My PC freezes in games (only) so I thought this could fix the problem but it didn't. Should I be hearing the fan getting louder when I set it on 100%? I hear no difference.

  • damn i have an issue with my graphic card. its ATI Radeon 2600 XT HD, it goes black screen ("no signal" on my screen) and sound loops when i play games (even in lesser demanding like CS 1.6, but not in COD MW??) its very random. i have googled this, but i think its overheating. i havent configured anything on my card whatsoever (overclock etc.) so i wonder if this method might solve my probleM?

  • Nice video, fixed my graphic (card 8800 GS) from overheating. The only thing i couldn't do was to set the Data sampling period. There was no option for that what so ever. I have RivaTuner V2.11 btw. Perhaps my video card just cannot support it. Or v2.11 doesn't support the Data Sampling Period. Any help would be appreciated.
