  • Where can I download this interpretation of Bach's sonata? I can only find it in a faster tempo. But this is the one I want, minus the movie noise! Anyone?

  • experiencing *before sunrise* is really a lovely dream, but then coming back to reality is extremely difficult, each day you wanna relive the dream n go back to time.. one feels sad and happy at the same time, sad that it ended, happy that it happened, you end up having has tears in your eyes with a lovely smile.

  • i cried like crazy at the end of this movie!!!

  • i was seriously speechless when it all ended...

  • this movie is great and before sunset is soo beautiful!

  • the choice of bach is perfect ... Ethan Hawke looks like Glenn Gould by the way in his youth

  • @docoftheworld I know, right?? I've been watching tons of Gould documentaries and then a week ago I watched this movie for the first time, and I was thinking, who does Ethan Hawke look like? Wait...wait....the young Glenn Gould!

  • @Bardolator38 exactly. I always say that a movie must be made about the life of Gould with Hawke in it as Gould (perhaps he would do a better job than Feore)

  • its sad how the director show those places empty after an unforgettable night:( GENIUS !!

  • IS THIS THE ENDING !!!!!!!!! They get apart in the end ???? They don'tt get together ??? I havn't watched the ending partt but haww it's so so so dissapointing if they would've gotten apart from each other jus coz one lives in france and one in u s a !!!

  • @mileyprinxy005BFF Errmmmm Not really. You have to watch the 2nd of the sequel, Before the Sunset to find the answer. Enjoy.

  • @hadabenz Ahaaan! Thnx. :-)

  • just lovely film, charming..and the ending..their relationship was sort of a dream night so that when the morning comes everything is over in the surrounding, everything is lifeless without them and the music is perfect for the picture and moment, just excellent film i love it, i can relate a lot to it!!

  • Is Jessie crying at 2:30?? Oh poor thing. He really felt in love with Celine!!

    The best movie EVER!

And what an ending! Sonata for viola da gamba No. 1 in G'' BWV 1027 suits the scene just perfectly!

  • well this will only happen in a movie because Europe is too racist

  • The way the camera lingers on the places they've been is so poingnant and is the thing I remember most about this film. Especially that image of the wine bottle and glasses on the grass as the old lady walks past.......everything is impermanent. So sad and yet beautiful at the same time

  • I love this movie, even I bought Bach: Sonatas for Viola da Gamba & Harpsichord from Yo - Yo Ma just for this piece, he play wonderfull. But Away this movie its a Piece as we call in Mexico, because it start and ends in the same way, I mean it donsent change the world at all, only in the inside of the caracters. That the beauty and hard to make a Piece like this. Example Lost in Translation or The Band Visit.

take care, and hello from city of México

  • This movie is really a master piece, i have been living in Europe for quite a while now and the movie is so realistic you feel you are actually traveling in SJ train. And truly one from four girls are exactly same as her...

  • I think that one of the reasons this movie is so romantic is because the ending where they dont stay together. In movies where they stay together you never really know if they remain happy in the remainder of their lives together. But in this story the night remains pure unspoiled by what may happen over time.

  • my heart goes crazy everytime i see this movie, i love it. even when i see a video like this, i cant help but believe in love.

  • I have a confession. I watch this film every week. For people who liked this filmed, but haven't see 'Lost In Translation' ... please do. You'll love it as well.

  • @Djinga You are right, it ends in the same way like I said in my coment, its a piece thats the way we call it in Mexico I dont know if in the States or in other parts of the world in Cinematografphy theory its benn called like this. Another example is "The Band's Visit" I recomended too.

  • Is the placing of the search for the romantic ideal a realistic quest in western culture or is it a pursuit that more often than not ends in frustration or disillusion. can relationships based solely on physical attraction stand the test of time or do they need spiritual affinity as well, thereby making them doubly difficult to come by.

  • If you can watch stuff like this and not be affected or moved in some way..then you are truly dead. This is what it is all about...nothing else really matters...material goods,money,power,fame.etc. Without love in one's life all the rest simply doesn't matter...

  • This may sound real dumb, but I'm so glad there's other people who had seen this movie and was effected in the same way. Makes me feel less lonely.

  • @wusangfu Thats the baeuty of Cinema, because it connects people feelings.

  • @cineastasolaris Amen!

  • I know this is crazy, but I actually think that if everyone experienced a "Before Sunrise" kind of love at least once, there would be a lot less terror in the world.

  • Agreed!

  • this ending scene always makes me cry. especially the empty park with the empty wine bottle they had from the night before, and the last two scenes of them alone and thinking about everything and how it had to end so soon. :(

  • The best ending EVER

  • Thank you so much to have post this ending scene. I've seen this movie a lot of times. And I've also lived a love story like that, so I know what does it means this feeling of melancholy.

And the music from Bach is simply perfect for this mood!

    Thanks thanks thanks!

  • cryng

  • To me this movie is about living in the moment. The last scenes are a swift reminder, that people are what make places magical. Without our 'star dust', no place would shine.

I loved this movie, and this is coming from a guy.. see I'm quite the intellectual. ;-)

  • these two have spoken more in one night and shared more insight on their feelings, thoughs on life and that is why it's totally ok for them to sleep together at the end, you have the idea that they really understood the other, it usually takes weeks to get inside someone that deep

  • its like you fall in love right along with them. at night these places felt magical, and now in daylight, that moment is gone and its so sad.

  • This movie makes me cry but I watch it time and time again! I love the end where they show all the places they visited, except everything has returned to 'normal' now. Excellent direction.

  • Yes vkartikv I agree with you on that

  • Sorry, if I have offended you with my harsh comments, cest4moi. Honestly, I really like the movie and the script writer. She is a brilliant writer and happens to be my professor, while I am a "nobody". Now, I am sure you have not judged anyone- right? I know that I need to work and practice on scripts, so that I can one day be an awesome writer like her. Its just that she cast me as a character with messed up teeth and I cried - it hurt my feelings.

  • Sorry, if I have offended you cest4moi with my harsh comments. It is actually a well written script and I was judgemental, but I'm sure you have not judged anyone in your life, right? As a matter of fact, she is my professor and I am a "nobody" to say such stuff, but I can honestly say that I have so much respect for her now and think that she is an excellent person. I know that I need to work a little more on my scripts, so that I can one day be a wonderful writer like her.

  • The best movie I saw it since the last summer and i think it will be the best one for me for ever!!!

  • julie delpy reminds me of my ex..chubby cute ...

  • It seems to fit in the catagory of movies that lack morals. Now, maybe it is the film industry that incorporates imorality and puts the fear in people and that is why people are terrified of marriage. Personally, I like "Fish" better and I'd like to once see a movie where a man does not give into temptation. This is a free world and I am entitled to my opinion. Funny, how people like to see others suffer, but they don't want it to happen to them.

  • How can you say this movie lacks morals? I thought it was quite clear what the moral was: it proves that two people can learn more in one day than most people do in their intire lifetime.

  • What a great story this would have been if they hadn't had sex! Imagine this same story with hand-holding and a kiss. Would their hearts have been moved any less? Nope. But of course it does complete most viewer's fantasies. Sadly, writers do not give humans enough credit - we can fall in love and keep our jeans zipped! Ladies- do you want to see how sincere he is re. his affections for you?:

Keep your knees together and see if he still calls. Otherwise- a great movie! (FYI:a guy wrote this)

  • ...This is not a movie. This is pure poetry. Watched it times and times...

  • such a simple yet perfect movie.. definetly one of my favourites. beautiful.

  • my favorite film..thk u!

  • this scene is so correct, the world realy becoming empty or everything just stop existing..........

  • Does anyone know whats the place where they lay on the grass and have sex? You can see it in the ending sceen too. Im from vienna, but i dont know where it is exactly. I Hope you can help me.

  • This scene is at Burggarten. In the back you see the houses at the corner Ring / Babenbergerstraße.

  • Thank you for informations (:

  • thank you thank you for uploading this! my fav classical music piece evah, and i don't even like bach.

anyone know where to get this version of the piece? i haven't been able to find any album with exactly the same instrumentation and pacing of the music.

  • Search for the soundtrack on iTunes, it's the same performance of the piece there. The soloist is Ketil Haugsand.

  • are you sure? the soundtrack version from the cd is a full 40 seconds shorter than the film version. is the iTunes version really the film version?

  • Well, the EXACT performance is actually by Yo-Yo Ma and Kenneth Cooper. Of this I'm nearly 100% sure. You can as you probably know give it a listen for free on itunes. My search words were: "Bach sonata 1 yo-yo ma"

  • ok. i guess that the itunes version and the album versions are different. thanks very much for this information!!!

  • The soloist for this is yo yo ma and kenneth cooper.

  • what a fantastic film, I could watch it every night!

  • How great! I´ve seen it just a few times but never forgot the magic, and I´ve got Before Sunset, and it completes my romantic dreams for them. The look of Jesse´s face when Celine acts like Nina Simone, he is so in love, there is no going back. He is married, she has a boyfriend, but dear me, there are times when it´s right to go against it and find your destiny.

  • Great movie. Great ending. Great photography.

  • Really beautiful!
