  • I hate that on my road bike, I sometimes sit on my balls. That stuff hurts! LOL

  • i think the rims are hotter =D damn sexy zipp rims =O

  • not as cute as liz hatch but beggers can't be choosers oh sorry was this video about bikes

  • Obviously this guy is an amazing triathlete, but I'm not drinking his Kool-Aid on this video.

  • Sounds like a road bike is better. So what's the reason for having a tri bike at all?

  • Comment removed

  • @TomBrooklyn They are a lot lighter and there are way better aerodynamtics in them.

  • so witch is better road bike or triathlon bikes?

  • Take a look at Alberto Contador's time trial position. One of the finest time trialist in the world. Not sure why a triatholon position would need to be any diffrent?

  • @geospectrum Notwithstanding Contador's nearly supernatural weight to power ratio, the difference between the TT and triathlon is that you need to RUN after you get off the bike in triathlon. Because of this, you need to try to set up yourself on the bike so as to preserve some of that quad strength for the run. Also, the TTs that Contador and other pros take part in are governed by the UCI, which means that their bikes are limited by strict regulations. Triathlons have fewer restrictions.

  • Mr. Coach, I use a very seat-forward position and my glutes still definitely feel a hard workout. Since discovering reversible seatposts that allow such a seat-forward position, I have become a little faster in the flats and MUCH faster on the climbs than I was even 25 years ago in my early 20's. Julies' back, especially at the beginning was nice and straight, and you tried to ruin that and put that curve in her lower back that is epidemic with the road-bike position. Not good.

  • julie was fantastiic

  • You boyz need to get out more she's a plain jane...

  • them bike going doen hill make me feel like im falling off

  • She should give him a bj.

  • julie gettin groped! nice...

  • @bazzakazam hahahah!!

  • I have lower back painevery now and then. Is cycling a good workout with my backpain?

  • definitely not. that'll just cause more pain. try using some icyhot on it.

  • Biker chicks are hot =D

  • @TheKnightsofwar210 my mom has a harley...

  • @TheKnightsofwar210 HELL NO thy gotno ass EVER

  • Could somebody tell me what "pedal using ball of foot, not toes" means?(2:10). I'm argentinian and I don't get the expressions very well. Thanks

  • Its the ball part of the foot, inbetween the Arch and the Big Toe.

  • @JuhaMR --Lo que dice es que la muchacha usa la planta del pie en vez de apuntar con los dedos de los pies, creo ya que no soy ciclista. Ciao

  • using ball of foot means pedaling with the heal of your foot

using toes mean pedaling with the outer part of your feet.

  • @JuhaMR significa que pedalees apoyandote con la parte de la planta del pie que esta entre el arco y los dedos. Que evites pedalear con los dedos.

  • Gracias por la ayuda! un abrazo

  • very cute model girl...the epitome of a girl rider...its kinda hard though to base 1 general formula for all riders...you can get lost in the varibles of posistions...if you want to see the best TT rider IMOP right now..he is fabian cancellara check out his stroke..a monster!

  • tune the gears they sound terrible :)

  • 3:12 look at those bulging veins =O

  • Thats called body conditioning. Good circulation, lots of Co2 pumping in those veins.Don't forget that bike riders have less fat. The arm muscle iushing those veins out.

  • Did he refer to it as a pedal cycle?

Just giving ya a hard time ;-) good vid, very informative

  • Cyclo-cross, bitch.

  • Which is fun, but has absolutely no cardio benefit. Come on Mudders get a ride in a trailblazer to the top,....

  • are you sure?

  • Good video! About the toe pointing, I've noticed a lot of similar videos tend to show a pointed toe foot position. I initially suffered from sore knees and have noticed that keeping the foot close to horizontal (as in the video) seems to significantly reduce stress/pain in the knees. Might not work for you, but.....

  • I have no idea why it annoys me so much but it's a Time Trial bike, not a Tri Bike. Triathletes 'borrowed' the time trial bikes for their sport. It's not a tri bike... stop calling it this!

  • Aero bars were first used in triathlons. And the steeper seat tube angles were also first used in triathlons because you had to move forward in your seat to be comfortable in the aero position and "save" your legs for the run. The time trial bikes before didn't have these characteristics so in a way the tt bikes today borrowed a lot from modified road bikes used in triathlons.

  • I ride both types and the one thing that gearing allows over a fixy is proper tail weight for the given condition. You get spinning to fast you start to put weight

on the saddle. The recommended saddle

weight is only around 20% of your total

    hand, feet,tail weight WHILE peddling.

Use your gearing to keep this saddle

    weight were it should be.

  • Road cycling is older than fixies, got it? So respect the sport. And instead of fixies riding on the street, ride on a track instead.

  • dahgutone, you're wrong. The first modern bikes invented were fixed gear bikes. Before the freewheel and multigears were invented fixed was the only thing to ride. All bikes were fixed gear, not just track bikes. If you can find a drivetrain that is more simple and reliable than a fixed gear let me know and I'll keep it on a track. Until then, fixed is the only way to go.

  • Im with you Bud. You get on a geared bike after Trucking round on a fixed for 12 weeks and its like a holiday when you ride it.

Gladiators ride fixed. Very Primal way to ride. GO ONE OH EIGHT GEARS.... MAKE YOU STRONG.....

  • Right on Brother! Finally someone who knows what I'm talking about. Even if I do 50 miles on a geared bike it still feels like I took the day off.lol But most people wouldn't know because they ride coaster bikes all the time. When I ride with groups I have one rule: "Get the hell out of my way when we start climbing!" Seriously, I smoke all other bikers on climbs just like a chain smoker smokes cigarettes.

  • Problem is that riding fixed is bad for your knees. So if you plan on riding healthy in your 40's and 50's, you may want to go geared.

  • For the people that have a problem dealing with complex systems, fixed could be it. Alot of 20" bmx riders have gone brakless, pushed there from the complex tuning it takes to keep up their U-brake. They have just adapted style to do without them. But for the sake of flexibility in their platform. When Shimano built the early freewheel. It opened up range and speed of a hole population. Style will chance function in the long term. It always has.

  • lucky guy. hey julie do you mind ...... doing this?:)

  • His swim videos are pretty good, but this doesn't make a lot of sense. Planter flexing isn't going to change the force of your pedal stroke. You're still transferring energy through the ball of your foot because that's where the cleats attach. What does happen however if you peddle with an even foot is that you stretch the calf and golgi tendon reflex will prevent your quads from contracting as forcefully requiring more glut involvement through the peddle stroke, which is great for cyclists...

  • but not so good for triathletes who are riding farther forward anyway and also riding much shorter distances than pure cyclists. Why not use your quads to carry more of the load during the cycling portion by planter flexing? Again when you get to the run your quads can rest and your gluts will be fresh.

  • Why not just run? Almost all of your horizontal propulsion in running should come from your gluts with some assistance from both the hamstrings and elastic properties of the foot/lower leg. In other words why would a triathlete train their gluts from cycling if you are only going to use them in triathlons for the run?

If athletes are running with poor bio-mechanical efficiency and using more leg muscles than they should during thier run that's another proplem entirely.

  • ahhh, good point

  • I guarantee you that you are running with too long of a stride, your glute muscles can pull long strides. This is not an ideal running position, as shorter strides are more efficient and you should never overextend your leg to force your glute to come into play. Again, the issue you're having is you're using your long stride on something that isn't efficient for it.

  • Are you suggesting that if one primarily uses their glutes while running then it implies they are running with too long a stride?

  • Another great post. THANKS!

  • Dave Scott what a great athlete.

  • I loved you explanation makes so much sense.

I am new to road bike beauT Mobile, and I am mostly a gym girlwho is a bit of a sports billy.

I am happy 2 have seen your video bcse I DO sit back and DO feel my glutes working and it so much easier to pedal without effort THAT way

like I said before am new to cycling felt I was the weird one the one who felt good on the back of the saddle. Sitting on hip bones

ThanksOh and I CAN ride the CycleOps free roller Yay Now need cadence

  • For road cycling one does to use their gluts as much as possible because they are the biggest muscles in the body. However it's a trade off between power and aerodynamics. Since triathletes ride so far forward to capitalize on better aerodynamics they're forced to use their leg muscles more, which works out because they save their gluts for the run, where they can let their leg muscles rest (if your legs tire from running you are running inefficiency and should check out evolution running).

  • We had a triathlete really mess up the pace during cornering on last week's group ride. Because of their forward geometry they can't turn worth a $hit and it was very frustrating. Road riders have way more chutzpah when it comes to cornering and we don't mind flying 26 mph in a 90 degree turn, but triathles.....make sure you're not behind them on a group ride.

  • ya much more funny!hahahaaaaaaaahhhhhaaaaaa...
