tablet is the future. People want more mobility from technology. i believe tablet is leading the way to a bigger and more technological lifestyle and culture.
@tnoyy34rt It's not the best tablet...no. There are prototypes that kick the iPad's ass so sorry.
Exposed screen = stoupit. Having to add a camera = dumb.
Flash isnt modern? ha ha ha wrong again. That's why no apple products will have adobe functionality...so that outside files can come in. Just a fact. You obviously love Apple...I'm objective.
@TheHeroesLocker - then name a better tablet, even a working prototype... bet you can't.
-
Flash can't be used with a touch OS, that's the problem... no Adobe functionality on Apple products? good god that is funny! Apple put Adobe on the map and Apple software sales are Adobe's bread and butter... I care about open standards, and Adobe does not that's the point... Apple excepts all file formats, that's why it's the most open, universal machine made today.
@tnoyy34rt Yes it CAN be used with a touch OS!!! I saw a video of YouTube running on a tablet...and they were in AWE of Flash running on the tablet.
.you need to learn about DRM. Apple isn't for open content AT ALL. They want to control piracy...which is fine...but they way they do it is by locking files that come in and out. Sorry to prove you wrong, but you dont know what you're talking about.
@TheHeroesLocker - what touch OS? microsoft doesn't have one except for the ill-fated Win Mobile 7. Yes, is that the video where Flash crashed? That was funny!
-
No, Apple doesn't approve of DRM, so you mean the publishers, not Apple. There is no more DRM on any iTunes music, so are you talking about books and movies? Yes, but you can always add your own books & movies to iTunes, so not sure why you would want to use DRM in the first place.
-
Yes, I know this industry better than anyone, thanks!
@tnoyy34rt It's funny how you continually tout Apple over and over. You're not objective and therefore can't be trusted. Hate to point that out to you...oh wait. No I don't.
I dont have a dog in this fight..I just want the best product. Right now it's not Apple.
@TheHeroesLocker - you're just not a sophisticated computer user... and that's okay... but your jealousy of Apple products is quite apparent. you'll get an Apple based computer at some point, so don't worry!
@tnoyy34rt hahahahahah Not sophisticated? Obviously you dont read. I've been using Apple for longer than you've been on the Earth. You can't be objective. I can. Therefore I win ;) Enjoy.
@tnoyy34rt everyone has different computer preferences. We all have a level of sophistication when it comes to computers. My specialty was in telecom where I had to learn to see what where it was all PC based. I'd call that being sophisticated & the equipment of choice was PC. Add having to follow a GPS drive map (this goes back to '98 for me) where I was using a touch screen on a PC based platform.
@tnoyy34rt for the duration of my career in telecom it was all PC based equipment tnoyy34rt and I was a professional with the equipment I was working with. Just because I was using PC based test equipment didn't necessarily make me inferior. In fact those skills kept me going and found me secure work as I just applied what I knew about computers to office professional type work and stayed employed in a tough economy.
@tnoyy34rt I was raised on DOS/Windows. Had I stayed within my college major and graduated, my computer of choice probably would've been Apple. Instead I changed directions and tapped hidden computer talents which expanded my options in the workforce. I also knew enough to copy secured programs in Excel and duplicate them (in other words I had a sophistication level to figure things out and do well).
There's no camera. Multi-tasking isnt there yet. Flash will never happen because Apple doesnt want Adobe products...i.e. other ways of getting content like ebooks on the pad....which severely limits the functionality of the pad.
Not only that...but it's insanely dumb to have a big exposed screen like this instead of a journal form factor.
I used to like Apple, but this thing has so many flaws...its not funny.
@kidclam It's a real shame, but understandable. Microsoft probably want to focus on the more commercially viable media oriented tablets and smartphones. While the Courier looked great, it's not designed for watching movies, browsing the web and playing games, which is a much larger market.
Still, it's unlikely they will waste the concept, maybe another manufacturer will licence a similar device, HTC would be my choice :)
Gizmodo reports today that Microsofts much-hyped Courier tablet has been canceled. The digital journal took a very different approach to the tablet PC as the polarizing iPad- one which many iPad haters considered a welcome difference.
-
So finally we can put a rest to the imaginary Courier!
@shfbdfi1273 - ah, one touch of the iPad and you'll see they are the space aliens from 500 years into the future... the iPad changes computing on a deep fundamental level.
this is actually a good technology, this could be used in schools, and students could use this as a notebook, this will basically save trees, and more portability for students, instead of holding hugeee notebooks and binders.
This will be twice as thik as the iPad, and it should be the same size when the iPad is on it's size. I expect this to have a +1.2Ghz Core, dedicated graphics card with +256 dedicated memory. At least over 4.5 hours of battery life. And it should run on magic and produce happiness.
the point is u could orginize it how ever you wanted to. just like if you had paper.
but new news says it well have run zune software, wich means, muisc, HD video, HD radio, xbox live games, and windows mobile 7 apps...............and well probably have a OLED screen just to further the WOW effect
@angelG14 Yeah cause you can watch full screen video on a screen folded in half or browse the web with black bar in the middle. The UI looks good, but I don't know too many people who are gonna buy a device solely for doing projects.
I'll be a frikin' art student this fall. I don't want to watch stupid YouTube videos (I get the irony) and surf the web "flawlessly". I would buy this if it was solely a digital journal with no connection capabilities or other uses, but it just so happens it does.
@angelG14 - yeah, it wasn't true, microsoft has never created a product without apple's help. that's why everyone in the industry laughs at them. MS has now canceled the Courier, so they know the iPad has now fully taken over the tablet industry.
@angelG14 although I own an iPad and normally I would get angry and make fun of Microsoft, I must admit that you are right...this seems so productive, so organised...can't wait for it
Wow.. if this thing ever comes out I am def buying it! This will be SO useful for school and stuff.. I was excited about the iPad.. but this thing blows it out of the water (if it is real)
lol and since the screen is split into 2, it'd be so fkn awesome if u fold one screen to to a 80 degree angle and use it a laptop. - that alone would completely blow the ipad out of the water.
It looks nice, and I would buy it if it worked like this presents it, but does anybody else think that this thing is all work and no play, get what I mean?
@rokikshasas I think that's great. :) Not all devices have to be for playing. I'm pretty sure computers were NOT invented as a toy. It just so happens it has great entertainment capabilities.
Microsofts wet dream, they WISH they could write software this good. how does the colour BLUE look on one of those things? Sorry I'll pass I switched back to Mac
because I want to USE my devices not curse at them.
Sorry - you have this backward. Microsoft has been running a tablet edition of its software for YEARS and YEARS (since XP.) Also - the iFad design is really a book reader in disguise.
what? microsoft have been making tablets for years and years. Lol you mactards are all the same...U fkin retard. Tell me how microsoft have copied apple. I can tell you retard for sure that u have no fact.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
U fkin retard....I am askin u how did microsoft copy apple in their courier and u are saying windows sucks....~U fkin mactard go fuk urself. I have been using windows all my life and i say it rocks!! So go fk urself.
This copies Apple with the pinch effect for starters. The way you open up a photo album. The iPad already has and most of other products Apple has the pinch effect multitouch even the macbook track pad has it. And why are mac users Mactards? Are MS users Microtards? The device is also aimed at a very different audience. This product is only aimed at Business users.
OK u fkin listen and listen good....Apple doesnt own the copyright to pinch and zoom....K and u fkin listen again Microsoft curier did not copy from iPad or iShit~ i think thats what its called, This video was made before the iShit.
Actually Microsoft had the pinch effect on the MS Surface before the iPhone was ever announced. They licensed it from a company called Perceptive Pixel, who developed most of the gestures that are common amongst multi-touch devices. You might say Apple "stole" the idea, since they are blatantly identical.
Have you seen the list of 20 "patent infringements" they are suing for? hardly any of them were originally created by Apple, and most of them the patents were made within the past year, which means Apple have been planing this for a while.
They won't win, but that's not Apples intention, because the case and preliminary injunctions will hurt HTC throughout the course of the trial, which will last years. It's like the Apple vs Microsoft case all over again.
That's exactly what HTC are doing, creating great devices using existing technology, which is also what Apple did. The iPhone was not a unique or original device, they did not invent the touchscreen phone or multitouch. There is nothing in the iPhone that Apple invented that other companies have copied. I'm not saying the iPhone is a bad device, it's a good smartphone, not the best but still good. It was not an original concept and shouldn't be patented as Apples idea.
No, Apple has had all this for decades, they developed the tablet idea in the early 80's don't forget. Yes, Apple was the first with multi-touch, they even own the trademark. MS has always been the 2 bit player when it comes to technology, but it's taken awhile for everyone to understand that...
you're always full of such bullshit Macinndrew. When have Apple ever made a tablet before? let alone back in the 80's. Fujitsu made the first comercial tablet pc's back in the late 80's, but the original concept was from Xerox in the 60's.
@arthmus01 - what? google: "apple bashful"... google: "knowledge navigator"... google: "apple message pad" --- apple has the longest history of tablet development in the world. The Fujitsu Poqet, was a subnotebook, not a tablet. Yes, Xerox had concepts, but only Apple developed & delivered. Sounds like you need to do research before you post to youtube.
@Macinndrew I don't need to google any of them, i know what they are, and none of them are tablet computers (the knowledge navigator isn't even a real product). The Bashful was a stylus input terminal for the apple II, and was never even manufactured. the messagepad was the first of the newton range of PDA's, and a blatant rip off of the Casio/Palm Zoomer. You want to include "tablet like" concepts, the likes of GRiD and CIC actually released products in the early 80's.
@arthmus01 - then why did you make such an ignorant comment? everyone knows in this industry Apple is the king of tablets, they've done more work than anyone... the Casio Zoomer was a cheap copy of the Newton! It came AFTER the Apple Newton. WHY do you REFUSE to do research?
-
YES... The GRID came earlier but it was no feature match for the Newton, so GRID Systems quickly went bankrupt.
-
Your understanding of computing history is weak at best, so why try and fight a fact based person?
@Macinndrew I know the Zoomer was released in 1992, and I just checked on the MessagePad 100, released August 1993. Explain to me how the newton came first when the MessagePad 100, the first Newton device, was released over a year later?
And GRiD didn't go bankrupt, they became part of Tandy, and Grids PDA concept became the Tandy Zoomer.
I see you're still getting all your information from Wikipedia and pretending you know things.
The Zoomer was released in '92. It was released under two brands, the Casio Zoomer and the Tandy Zoomer. Casio manufactured the device, but Tandy marketed it (similar to how the Google/HTC Nexus One is today) Casio released the device under their own name in Japan in 1992.
But anyway, back to the original question, when did Apple ever make a tablet PC?
Why would we be talking about graphics tablets within the context of a tablet pc discussion, on a video about a tablet pc? And if we were, graphics tablets were common back in the mid 70's before Apple eve existed, so how could they be credited with developing the tablet idea in the early 80's?
The iPad is Apple's first tablet computer, so when have they ever made a fully functioning tablet computer before that?
@arthmus01 - by "pc", it means running a desktop OS... neither the courier or ipad are tablet pcs... they are (were) just tablets. yes, apple had a graphics tablet too in 1979... google it. nobody said they came up with the idea, that goes back 1000's of years. but they did most of the development for them back in the 80's, now the iPad is the highest form of a tablet available. They were also first to have a fully functioning tablet with the Newton in 1993, so you need to learn history.
@Macinndrew a PC has nothing to do with the OS running on it. A PC is a personal computer. A pocket pc runs a mobile OS but it is still a type of PC. A tablet is a form factor that can have many implementations.
I'll give you that the Newton was Apples first tablet computer even though it was a PDA, but since it was neither the first tablet computer nor successful in any way, how does that make them "king of the tablet"?
@arthmus01 - the newton was the first successful tablet, it sold millions and was very popular among its users. now the iPad builds on that and has now taken 62% of the tablet market.. so that early development and hard work makes Apple the king of phones, music players, computers and tablets.
@Macinndrew The Newton was a massive commercial failure, I doubt if it even sold a million, let alone "millions". It's widely regarded as the biggest failure in Apple's history, bigger than the pippin. And how has Apple taken 62% of the tablet market? they've sold what, 500,000? compared to the millions of tablets that are sold around the world every year. It's probably the single biggest selling tablet, but 62% of the market? you're a moron, I'm done with you.
@arthmus01 - you mean one portion was a "technical failure", but commercially, the newton did pretty well and remains popular to this day. yes, it sold around 2.3 million during its 6 years, then it was taken back into development and became the iphone. No, the Apple /// was Apple's biggest failure. Yes, the iPad is now at 1.2 million sold in less than 4 weeks, so it has 62% of the current tablet market.
@Macinndrew 2.3 million sales, between 6 models over a 6 year period. That is not a commercial success. Compare it to the Palm Pilot 1000, which sold 1 million units in the first year alone.
And the iPad has not sold 1.2 million units. That is the predicted june quarter sales, that's 3 months not 4 weeks. Current estimates are around 600,000, which wouldn't even put it above 10% of the tablet market. But i'm sure you'll find some bullshit news post somewhere which contradicts real facts.
@arthmus01 - at the time is was a mild success, but i agree it was a bit too ahead of its time. the palm came later by newton engineers when the concept was more mature. the iPad has now sold 1.1 million units, so you were incorrect. you just can't stand that apple is taking over another market with best of breed technology.
Apple had nothing to do with the Pilot. Palm made the software for the Zoomer, when U.S. Robotics bought Palm they created the Pilot together.
Also, Apple announced they had sold 1 million units a couple of days ago. So how could they have sold 1.2 million nearly a week ago when you originally claimed they did? I'm sure they will hit their 1.2 million target in this quarter, and probably 4 million first year sales, still only about 15-20% of the tablet market, not 62%. Retard.
@TheHeroesLocker - ah, it's the best tablet, so it's best of breed...
-
you can always add a camera if you want... there's an app for that. (several actually)
-
no, USB is fully wireless now, so there is no more need for physical ports... connectors are being phased out don't forget. and flash isn't moden enough for touch based systems, so it's good that it's gone...
-
what? apple doesn't lock any content, don't be ridiculous, you can add your own free movies, books, music like you always could.
@Macinndrew you want to bring up the topic of facts, we should really discuss your comments across multiple posts and start tearing down more of your comments because for the record, you haven't been factual and have made mere statements which are not truthful :)
@Macinndrew if you claim to be an exper right. Certainly you must have known the moment you decided to post everywhere that it would be easy to others to do their own reserach and conclude for themselves you are not factual or even post facts. We can Google your user name or click after the "@" symbol off this post and see where you've been as is the case with me. I'm afraid you've left yourself vulnerable to not telling the truth.
@Macinndrew any statement you make where part of it is not factual is considered a false statement. Your statements are mere opinions and poor statements at that. Sorry Macky just pointed out the obvious about you ;)
@arthmus01 - no, Apple had multi-touch first... back in 2005... they even own the trademark for "multitouch"... so microsoft copied Apple's ideas once again..
Multi-touch devices had been around for decades prior to Apple's purchase of Fingerworks. Bell Labs had multitouch displays in the 80's. The Microsoft Surface was devised in 2001 as a commercial implementation of Xerox's "Digital Desk" concept, which demonstrated most of the gestures used in modern multitouch devices. Synaptics have used multitouch trackpads since the late 90's. having a trademark for the word "multi-touch" does not mean they invented or own the technology.
No they weren't. Perceptive Pixel had several multitouch solutions on the market before the iPhone was released. And Multi-touch monitors have been selling for decades. And Synaptics multi-touch trackpads are in more than half of all laptops.
Apple were the first ones to put it into a standalone hand-held device (as far as i know). And subsequently the first to find a mass consumer market for multi-touch devices.
@tnoyy34rt it is obvious to me that you haven't worked professionally a day in your life and your opinions reflect that. Most of us that have learned and have progressed have shown up to work on time everyday and have learend new computer techniques in mainly a PC based world. Regardless of how intimidating some positions got for me, I stuck with it and developed in a PC environment. Others it was probably MAC. Either way everyone is sophisticated to a certain extent.
@tnoyy34rt here is why you are not credible, you insult with an extreme prejudice. You jump around to other posts and assume other aliases and tear down others you have issues with. It is the same story with you over and over. Again I find you to be very prejudiced and factually challenged. There is nothing factual about what you do. All you do is post opinionated statements.
Who the Fuck are u to say i have a problem? I have no problem. And u fucking shut up. K the only one who has problem is u. U Mactard. U started this. U accused microsoft of copeying apple and i was tellin u that Microsoft did not copy apple and u are saying that i have a problem...U dimshit. So U shut up and neva talk about microsoft copying apple cuz u have no fact to talk about them that way...U get out of this which u clearly dont know about. Go fuck Yourself and Your Boyfriend Steve jobless
U also listen i deliberately tweaked the spelling...Cuz it was too long...There may still be a typo. Ne way who cares about spelling, certainly not internet. So STFU! and Fuckoff
Medical students should be using tablets - there's some physicians who are using the tablet now with software from McKesson and Cerner - it's really quite nice... lots of pratical uses with a general tablet.
whoa the world is advancing to the future! scientists testing a new car using hydrogen gas and water would come out of the exhaust, asimo the world's most humanoid's robot that would maybe replace simple jobs, and this courier notebook would replace all paper notebooks in school XD
this makes me happy to be just starting college lol..man it would be nice to have one of those for at least two years of college and then entering the workforce
Window 7 would work on this if one could fold one of the screen up and type on the lower half. This would be really cool. This only problem would be getting use to how to use this thing.
the way the stylus is used is much more superior to a keyboard. at last, a computer where you can easily make math and science notes without spending 10 minutes looking through character map.
As I said, the devil's in the details. I love a number of things about the Kindle, but the screen is reflective, the contrast is too low, the digital book files are either corrupted or have problems with the spacing or have non-working indexes. Pictures and captions are basically illegible (and in a lot of the books, so are tables and charts). No wonder Amazon won't let you try one out in a store before you buy it.
Whoever lets me write longhand with a stylus and has a REALLY good handwriting recognition program will win MY heart. This thing looks way cook, but the devil's in the details. I love my Iphone, but the touch keypad is from hell.
Have you tried Windows Mobile's Transcriber? It works surprisingly well at recognizing handwriting, shame that the screen is too small to write out a lot, but I can definitely see this being useful in class.
I've seen commercials for laptops and smart pens in back to college deals, and honestly, I don't have a single class where it would be practical to use a laptop or smart pen to take notes or whatever. This however would definitely do! I'm saving up to buy this when it comes out.
Personally I am a mac guy, but this thing could not be possible with OSX or windows alone. It has to have it's own OS to do what it should and Microsoft nailed it! 2 screens and it's focus on writing/journals makes it perfect for school. I for one will be buying it the second it comes out.
actually it would be in microsofts best interest to have windows on this thing. Windows 7 is actually touch screen compatible. Everything your looking at in this video can possibly just be one application in windows 7 but I would still love for this to support windows 7. That would mean its a laptop, and everything else
Nah, the touch eatures are way too extensive. As awesome as Windows 7 is, I don't think that's what Courier is running. If it is that would be great, but the features this thing has give me doubts. Either way, the Apple tablet has some very serious competition. I wonder if they can match this.
Match this? How can you match this? Just more speed is the only thing I can imagine, but this device does everything that needs to be done so easily, Apple might as well leave microsoft to keep improving this.If the tablet does everything as smooth as its done in this video. No there no competition. This can only be a companion to the iphone. Picture walking to school with this and an iphone. You have NO reason to have any other device!
I wouldn't count Apple out yet. They're pretty good, too. But considering their Tablet will be running the iPhone OS, I have huge doubts about it even coming close to what this video shows the Courier can do.
I just hope the Courier also comes with an on-screen keyboard The stylus isn't best for everything.
You absoultely right thats a no brainer. The dual screen makes this so cool because if you use it in landscape mode you pretty much have a buttonless laptop. The keyboard will have finger space too unlike the iphone which is the cool part of it. This can beat the iphone in every way except price I imagine.lol
Actually, right across the business and tech world Microsoft have been releasing (or at least buying and rebranding) some amazing products, see Windows 7, Dynamics AX, The Zune HD, Project Natal etc. This looks like it could be another interesting product.
yea you must be an Apple guy. And I respect that. I mean this product is obviously gonna suck because, why? It won't fit into a manila envelope? Or is it because the future Microsoft Courier 'Air' won't be priced 40% more for 100% less?
I've been using avery version of Windows, and of the Xbox, and those products just don't have the finish and polish they should have. Steve Ballmer says it himself : he doesn't want to make quality products, but quantities.
So I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a badly implemented, graphically irrelevant product, in the end.
Microsoft are just not able to start again, they'll just build it on top of the Windows foundations, that suck.
Well I think windows 7 has some potential to do well. They've hired a whole new team solely designated to designing this new windows version, and from what I've seen, it's got some pretty cool stuff. I don't see much reason for me to buy this product, but I can see how it could be attractive to others.
If this could support apple software and play music (i dunno it it already does or not) it would be great but anyways its still great i would undoubtedly get this Great Product For sure!
This will be great - when it makes it into the real world, that is:) Microsoft has a history of announcing products which either never come to be or if they do, are not that great in the end. Let us wait and see.
APPLE has been really getting upstage from every front.. phone department=palm pre ipod department= zune hd now the biggest rumor they had goin for them is being upstaged by this.but i do think apple will reclaim there no 1 spot n the tech and consumer world by nex year
I usually watch this video every few months and cry because it's not real.

In fact those skills kept me going and found me secure work as I just applied what I knew about computers to office professional type work and stayed employed in a tough economy.
shaithis45 1 year ago
@tnoyy34rt I was raised on DOS/Windows. Had I stayed within my college major and graduated, my computer of choice probably would've been Apple. Instead I changed directions and tapped hidden computer talents which expanded my options in the workforce. I also knew enough to copy secured programs in Excel and duplicate them (in other words I had a sophistication level to figure things out and do well).
shaithis45 1 year ago
There's no camera. Multi-tasking isnt there yet. Flash will never happen because Apple doesnt want Adobe products...i.e. other ways of getting content like ebooks on the pad....which severely limits the functionality of the pad.
Not only that...but it's insanely dumb to have a big exposed screen like this instead of a journal form factor.
I used to like Apple, but this thing has so many flaws...its not funny.

kidclam 1 year ago

The device is also aimed at a very different audience. This product is only aimed at Business users.

gangstabib 2 years ago
Actually Microsoft had the pinch effect on the MS Surface before the iPhone was ever announced. They licensed it from a company called Perceptive Pixel, who developed most of the gestures that are common amongst multi-touch devices. You might say Apple "stole" the idea, since they are blatantly identical.

Did you hear Steve Jobs' quote (To HTC) that goes something like this "competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."
fourzero40 1 year ago
Have you seen the list of 20 "patent infringements" they are suing for? hardly any of them were originally created by Apple, and most of them the patents were made within the past year, which means Apple have been planing this for a while.
They won't win, but that's not Apples intention, because the case and preliminary injunctions will hurt HTC throughout the course of the trial, which will last years. It's like the Apple vs Microsoft case all over again.

sun88489889 1 year ago
@sun88489889
It was not an original concept and shouldn't be patented as Apples idea.
arthmus01 1 year ago
No, Apple has had all this for decades, they developed the tablet idea in the early 80's don't forget. Yes, Apple was the first with multi-touch, they even own the trademark. MS has always been the 2 bit player when it comes to technology, but it's taken awhile for everyone to understand that...
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew
you're always full of such bullshit Macinndrew. When have Apple ever made a tablet before? let alone back in the 80's. Fujitsu made the first comercial tablet pc's back in the late 80's, but the original concept was from Xerox in the 60's.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - what? google: "apple bashful"... google: "knowledge navigator"... google: "apple message pad" --- apple has the longest history of tablet development in the world. The Fujitsu Poqet, was a subnotebook, not a tablet. Yes, Xerox had concepts, but only Apple developed & delivered. Sounds like you need to do research before you post to youtube.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew I don't need to google any of them, i know what they are, and none of them are tablet computers (the knowledge navigator isn't even a real product). The Bashful was a stylus input terminal for the apple II, and was never even manufactured. the messagepad was the first of the newton range of PDA's, and a blatant rip off of the Casio/Palm Zoomer. You want to include "tablet like" concepts, the likes of GRiD and CIC actually released products in the early 80's.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - then why did you make such an ignorant comment? everyone knows in this industry Apple is the king of tablets, they've done more work than anyone... the Casio Zoomer was a cheap copy of the Newton! It came AFTER the Apple Newton. WHY do you REFUSE to do research?
-
YES... The GRID came earlier but it was no feature match for the Newton, so GRID Systems quickly went bankrupt.
-
Your understanding of computing history is weak at best, so why try and fight a fact based person?
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew I know the Zoomer was released in 1992, and I just checked on the MessagePad 100, released August 1993. Explain to me how the newton came first when the MessagePad 100, the first Newton device, was released over a year later?
And GRiD didn't go bankrupt, they became part of Tandy, and Grids PDA concept became the Tandy Zoomer.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - you continue to refuse to check facts, The Zoomer was a collaboration between Palm Computing, Tandy Corporation, Casio and GeoWorks.
-
It was released in November 1993 and came with 1 MB RAM, a 320 x 256 pixel display, a calculator and the Geos operating system.
-
The Newton came out in August 1993.
-
So you were wrong!
-
And while GRID may have been saved through acquisition, they were as good as bankrupt before that occurred, so learn to check facts.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew
But anyway, back to the original question, when did Apple ever make a tablet PC?
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - no, i rarely use wiki. and no, the zoomer didn't appear until nov 1993.
-

we weren't talking about a tablet "pc", we were discussing tablets.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew
Why would we be talking about graphics tablets within the context of a tablet pc discussion, on a video about a tablet pc? And if we were, graphics tablets were common back in the mid 70's before Apple eve existed, so how could they be credited with developing the tablet idea in the early 80's?
The iPad is Apple's first tablet computer, so when have they ever made a fully functioning tablet computer before that?
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - by "pc", it means running a desktop OS... neither the courier or ipad are tablet pcs... they are (were) just tablets. yes, apple had a graphics tablet too in 1979... google it. nobody said they came up with the idea, that goes back 1000's of years. but they did most of the development for them back in the 80's, now the iPad is the highest form of a tablet available. They were also first to have a fully functioning tablet with the Newton in 1993, so you need to learn history.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew a PC has nothing to do with the OS running on it. A PC is a personal computer. A pocket pc runs a mobile OS but it is still a type of PC. A tablet is a form factor that can have many implementations.
I'll give you that the Newton was Apples first tablet computer even though it was a PDA, but since it was neither the first tablet computer nor successful in any way, how does that make them "king of the tablet"?
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - the newton was the first successful tablet, it sold millions and was very popular among its users. now the iPad builds on that and has now taken 62% of the tablet market.. so that early development and hard work makes Apple the king of phones, music players, computers and tablets.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew The Newton was a massive commercial failure, I doubt if it even sold a million, let alone "millions". It's widely regarded as the biggest failure in Apple's history, bigger than the pippin. And how has Apple taken 62% of the tablet market? they've sold what, 500,000? compared to the millions of tablets that are sold around the world every year. It's probably the single biggest selling tablet, but 62% of the market? you're a moron, I'm done with you.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - you mean one portion was a "technical failure", but commercially, the newton did pretty well and remains popular to this day. yes, it sold around 2.3 million during its 6 years, then it was taken back into development and became the iphone. No, the Apple /// was Apple's biggest failure. Yes, the iPad is now at 1.2 million sold in less than 4 weeks, so it has 62% of the current tablet market.
-
Why don't you like facts?
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew 2.3 million sales, between 6 models over a 6 year period. That is not a commercial success. Compare it to the Palm Pilot 1000, which sold 1 million units in the first year alone.
And the iPad has not sold 1.2 million units. That is the predicted june quarter sales, that's 3 months not 4 weeks. Current estimates are around 600,000, which wouldn't even put it above 10% of the tablet market. But i'm sure you'll find some bullshit news post somewhere which contradicts real facts.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - at the time is was a mild success, but i agree it was a bit too ahead of its time. the palm came later by newton engineers when the concept was more mature. the iPad has now sold 1.1 million units, so you were incorrect. you just can't stand that apple is taking over another market with best of breed technology.
Macinndrew 1 year ago
@Macinndrew
Retard.

tnoyy34rt 1 year ago
@tnoyy34rt
Synaptics have used multitouch trackpads since the late 90's. having a trademark for the word "multi-touch" does not mean they invented or own the technology.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01 - yes, but Apple was the first to build a successful product around multi-touch, that's why everyone considers them first...
tnoyy34rt 1 year ago
@tnoyy34rt
And subsequently the first to find a mass consumer market for multi-touch devices.
arthmus01 1 year ago

As I said, the devil's in the details. I love a number of things about the Kindle, but the screen is reflective, the contrast is too low, the digital book files are either corrupted or have problems with the spacing or have non-working indexes. Pictures and captions are basically illegible (and in a lot of the books, so are tables and charts). No wonder Amazon won't let you try one out in a store before you buy it.

BalmungSama0 2 years ago

I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes.
Leraning from past experiences with MSFT GUI, it will probably take 3 seconds to turn one page.

If this turns out to be not much more that than a touchy-feely pda then I will be greatly disappointed.

Actually, right across the business and tech world Microsoft have been releasing (or at least buying and rebranding) some amazing products, see Windows 7, Dynamics AX, The Zune HD, Project Natal etc. This looks like it could be another interesting product.

As usual, nothing you are seing here will be in the final version, and it will surely suck.
TheMoitah 2 years ago
yea you must be an Apple guy. And I respect that. I mean this product is obviously gonna suck because, why? It won't fit into a manila envelope? Or is it because the future Microsoft Courier 'Air' won't be priced 40% more for 100% less?
fisheater12 2 years ago
Thanks for your respect, that's rare on Youtube.
You agree?
TheMoitah 2 years ago
Well I think windows 7 has some potential to do well. They've hired a whole new team solely designated to designing this new windows version, and from what I've seen, it's got some pretty cool stuff. I don't see much reason for me to buy this product, but I can see how it could be attractive to others.

Funny bits about the manila envelope, BTW :)

how can you tell? I wish i had one of these, things will be easier.

So not only will it compete favorably with the Apple tablets but also the Kindle reader.
LMAO
I am a PC.

If this could support apple software and play music (i dunno it it already does or not) it would be great but anyways its still great i would undoubtedly get this Great Product For sure!
Tennisballenator 2 years ago
This will be great - when it makes it into the real world, that is:) Microsoft has a history of announcing products which either never come to be or if they do, are not that great in the end. Let us wait and see.

Woah! This might be the best thing I have ever seen from Microsoft!

Hopefully it can just run vanilla Windows 7, it'd be perfect for 2D image work on the go.
Apple's tablet is going to run iPhoneOS... so fuck it, I need something with freedom.
