  • Any number of guns would be better than the Beretta M9.

But they should not be chambered for the 9mm round. NATO compatibility is fine if we are talking about the 7.62x51, a superb rifle round, but not the 9x19, which is just plain inadequate in stopping power.

Two. They should not have DA/SA triggers with a heavier pull for the first round.

That rules out Ruger, S&W, and SIG, and leaves in the Glock 21 as a good candidate, or even an updated 1911 variant.

  • im gonna lay down some ground rules for recomendations to yall comment posters.

1, must have a safety lever. not a second trigger like a glock, or a long DAO pull like the p250

2, must be cheap, this is the government, they do put a price on your life, and it isnt very high

3, must fire nato rounds, that means MM pretty much. no 45, 40 or 357 sig

4, user friendly, 10mm aint for everyone, grip size cant feel like ur holding a bible, etc

    5, light

  • of the few comments i read i agree on what everyone says. HK or 5.7 sig all the above. but forget glock im sorry. they want somehting dependable and reliable not a gun every tool buys cuz they think its cool to hold a glock.

  • This isnt the army's new gun eh? They use beretta m9 still

  • im all for 45, but you made it sound like the army started using this already. Change the fucking video tittle to " My opinion of the army's new handgun"

  • yeah do 45 pistols again :D

  • FN 5.7, or HK period possibly Sig or The XDM but that's about it. other than the FN I'd go .40 cal or 45.

  • I wonder if the military would consider a polymer frame for it's standard issue sidearm. Also, I think a .40 cal would be a good compromise between the 9mm and the .45.

  • Sig 220 no question. Flawless weapon, .45 ACP. Can't beat it for the Army.

  • The military doesn't want a glock... They want a sidearm with a hammer and a safety.

  • I just want to see the military bring back the almighty .45 ACP!!!

  • @blowupuate13 amen

  • i have had a FN close to the one in the video for five years. its a very great gun. he should have takin it apart. its even sexy on the inside from end to end. even has a steel recoil post inside. :) def built to last. easiest gun to take apart. have a glock 17 and the FN is just a lil better on every part

  • M1911a2

  • reinstate the 1911!

  • nice bideo :3

  • Glock, hands down. Its light, durable, reliable, and cost effective.

  • SIG 226

  • @mannexx111 Made in USA is cool. They pay wages, payroll taxes, some Fed & State tax, local tax, property tax, sales tax....

But the NET INCOME/PROFITS go back overseas. If the materials are made here not just assembled even better.

Leave politics out. The issue is which gun. I vote for this one. Not because of the MADE IN THE USA but because if I am deployed and need to defend my life I need the best, even if the Russians make it (it was hard for me to write the last part, I'm a Cold War "guy

  • They should go with the Glock 20 :)

  • @beast6228 hell ya that 10mm is a hoss of a pistol round

  • I love the FNP45, but this particular model in this vid is very expensive, mostly due to the optics, love the gun.

  • IM GLAD YOUR NOT THE MILITARY

  • GLOCK!!!! what else?? the rest is well .... OBSOLETE!!!

  • OK MR. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE,GO WITH THE COLT MOD, 1911 FOR A REPLACEMENT. ALREADY BATTLE PROVEN THROUGH TWO WORLD WARS.

  • @SUCONITNOW Right on man and its made in America by an American company something these douchbag 5 dollar an hour Republicans don't seem to understand ...

  • Some Navy personnel use Glocks along with Sigs. Neither of which have a safety. Got another buddy who's a Ranger and he carries a Glock 21. Another with 82nd and he carries an XD 45 Springfield.

  • @alexis135159 looks can be deceiving. A real gun with a 15 capacity .45 ACP magazine and extremely accurate. Please, try it out; it will change your mind about "plastic".

  • Fucking fire the gun already

  • How about we give our guys the option to carry what they want. Why does some jack hole in DC who has never stepped foot on the battle field get to decide the last ditch weapon for our men and women?

  • I like your bideos, Keep up the great work

  • it looks like a plastic gun

  • Sig P226 X-five Tactical. Hands down.

  • why would they make this gun in that color, it just looks ugly imo

  • H&K 45 or H&K P30 9mm or .40

  • I thought the main reason the military wanted to replace the M-9 was because they wanted a more powerful weapon, .45 caliber v. 9mm. The 9's inability to stop drugged up Jihadis in close combat early in the 2nd Gulf War, and had little to do with the M-9's design characteristics.

From what I remember reading soldiers were so disgusted by the 9's lack of stopping power they were sending home for Colt 1911 style .45 ACPs and turning in their M-9s.

  • @Dem0D1ck 9 .40 or .45... Doesn't matter what you carry if you can't hit your target. Handguns are NOT an effective killing tool, but studies have proven that a 9mm stops the threat just as well as a .45 when you get good hits. Hit your target!

  • @fullrearview handguns are backups to real weapons

  • @MrRallieJ I'm aware of that... Still, if you carry what you can shoot well with.

  • @fullrearview i mean that as in no matter if it's 9mm .40 or .45 it's still only a backup the caliber shouldn't matter much as long as its 1,100+ fps, i'm not arguing with you only furthering your point

  • @fullrearview Regardless, when you've got a Jihadi drugged up on pain killers running at you at close quarters mass counts a lot more than volume when you only have time to fire once.

  • @Dem0D1ck Then you better aim for the head because a motivated person can take a lot of damage... With or without drugs.

As for me, I can send two and half 124 grn. 9mm rounds accurately down range in the time it takes me to send one .40 or .45. Mass by volume.

  • @fullrearview I SHOULD WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW YOU SEND 1/2 ROUND DOWN RANGE! YOU ARE TRULY ONE BADD ASS MOFO! LOL!

  • You're just rambling on and on and on damn dude get on with the review

  • glock.end of story

  • @Taxemicshadow they want a safety on all military guns i think thts why they wont use glocks

  • @MrRallieJ Makes sense but it can go through all the things that the m9 has problems with and still work fine. if its not cocked you cant fire.they could use a cocking holster which are quite convenient

  • @Taxemicshadow trust me i agree with you, but you know the liberals would shit if they were using guns without a standard safety, be it slide or frame mounted

  • @Taxemicshadow I would also like our military to carry the FN in 5.7 x28mm but you can NEVER go WRONG with the a Glock

  • Decocker? Fail. Cocked and locked is the only way to go unless you shoot a Glock.

  • They should go back to what they had the 1911. And the 1911 is perfect fore being suppressed as it is a subsonic round to begin with...

  • @mannexx111 hey dumbass. the fnp45 shoots the same bullet the 1911 shoots. but the fnp 45 holds twice as many as the 1911.

  • @trinexxxbaker The fnp-45 is not American made fucktard no American soldier should be carrying anything that is not made in America. Of course I realize that morons like you don't understand this kind of logic that's why were in the shape were in.......

  • @mannexx111 FNH has a factory in the US, douche

  • @jerseyemt Ya sorry that's what I meant it can but won't travel far at all.

  • @jerseyemt I have been about to post the same comment (yours).

It is not traveling distance under water but when you take it out what counts and the answer is yes for "most".

  • M1911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @NerdWhiteGuy m1911's are great, but there are reasons they were replaced (i.e. ammo capacity, and easily breakable parts with harsh use)

  • UNDERWATER TESTING is shoot underwater lobster zombies. Deadly.

  • We should adopt Glock.

  • What I mean is if you drop it in a big puddle of water can you pick it up and fire it

  • @EIJR13GN no gun is able to shoot underwater. At least from what I know.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMarkisaac glocks shoot underwater flawlessly, ive seen it before... not very practical though the bullet only travels a few feet

  • Can this gun shoot underwater can someone test it whats its durability

  • @ElJR13GN

If you need to shoot underwater get a harpoon.

  • @zaldivarbigboy hahahaha great comment

  • @zaldivarbigboy

if u need a underwater weapons check out an SPP-1 and APS underwater assault rifle

  • Glock, tough and proven,Sig or an HK would would be good to.But just for the sake of keeping it an American gun S&w an FMK 9C1B or even an American 1911.

  • @tinytim880 im pretty sure H&K is german, i could be wrong

  • @MrRallieJ

    yes it is.

  • @tinytim880 glock is austrian for sure and sig has a complicated ownership/partnership

  • Comment removed

  • I like the features on this pistol. I came from using the 1911 in the Army to using the Beretta in the Army. The decocker was a good thing on the Beretta, good to see it on this FN. I don't know if this pistol is the answer, but making the pistol from plastic, multiple grips, decocker and especially milled for a red dot make it have all the features needed for a future military pistol.

  • I would have to agree with you that the Military should replace the M9 with this gun. I am a bit biased because I own a FNP-45 and love it! Good review!

  • Very good VERY detailed & informative vidieo .

  • Your not going to encounter any of the condidtions that this would be tested for just get a keltec and hide with a box of cookies in your closet. This is way more gun than you will need with features you have no qualifications for.

  • @19thSFGA

So is that your way of saying you have no facts to back up your claims. I though so. Just another shit taker with daddy issues talking from his ass.

  • @19thSFGA i love this gun. i dont have the tactical but i do carry this weapon concealed. not the easiest but you cant beat 15 rounds of .45

  • @19thSFGA is u mad?

  • @19thSFGA how do u know? he might live in Darfur...........or worse Detroit hahaha

  • Go back to the 1911. Knock down power, reliability, good grip...

  • @terrryc its the same "knockdown power" as the gun in the video

  • This is bullshit the FNP didnt pass the trials also this is very heavy there is a price for the high cap mag.The clear solution is to go back to the 1911.

  • @19thSFGA

If you can please point me toward were you got this fact. I would love to see a full list of the competitors and how they fared against the Px4SD, and most importantly why the FN failed. I trust the gun with my life and want to make sure I'm not making a live or death mistake.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

If you get a chance go and watch this video:

    watch?v=HfJj90eNIfE&list=UUJimfyIOFM3Yaot_V8bFLPQ&index=4&feature=plcp

  • @zaldivarbigboy I don't know about the Army, but the Marines look to be swapping for the 1911.

  • @19thSFGA The FN is too heavy so you want to go back to a gun that is heavier? Looking at something like the Springfield TRP, which is probably similar to a 1911 the military would adopt, the FN is 3/4 of a pound lighter unloaded. Load them up and I'm sure they would be pretty close to the same.

  • @19thSFGA go back 100 years in technology? why is that a good idea?

  • @19thSFGA The 1911 isn't going to be standard issue for the general troops again. It's more complex and prone to breakage then other modern designs. If anything they would go with the SIG P220 but not the 1911.

  • Most "accidental discharges"/"negligent discharges" happen when the Glock is on it's way back to the holster and the trigger "catches" who knows what (perhaps your finger trying to holster it). One of the reasons why your Glock holster should have a trigger guard. I'm sure you guys know this but I had to say it because I don't want you to have a case of "Glock Leg"...or shoot somebody.

  • Unless to tuck it between your pants and skin ,one day, in a hurry...the trigger catches a string from your pants and BOOM!....I love Glocks but there is always a first time for something.

  • I've got a Glock ... the only safety is the trigger, so there's no way to accidentally engage it. I like it.

  • FNP 45; great gun. However, I'm confused as to why you would "compare" this firearm to the M9 service pistol. The 45 and the 9mm are two entirely different classes of sidearms. M9's are used for general security, and not for battle. You will not see general security forces, such as military police, packing FNP 45's. It's way too expensive and significantly overpowered. I think you should check your sources about the army replacing the M9 with a .45. I spent several years as an MP, and in the mil

  • @rsarver81

The video is simply a reply to a question "which gun I personally believe the military should replace the M9 with" in my opinion the FNP45T would a a nice pistol. Granted there is a lot of bureaucratic in all the decisions the military makes as far as weaponry goes.

The idea for the video came from another youtube and the source of the question from the armytimes website. Link is on the description. Supposedly the FN never make it on the possible contenders list base on ArmyTimes.

  • The FNP didn't even pass the trials. Only one handgun actually passed the full trials before the program was canceled and that was the Px4SD

  • @Blacklung27

If you can please point me toward were you got this fact. I would love to see a full list of the competitors and how they fared against the Px4SD, and most importantly why the FN failed. I trust the gun with my life and want to make sure I'm not making a live or death mistake.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

  • I would vote for the XD 45 Service model or the GLOCK 21SF. Both awesomely reliable and both carry 13 rnds in 45 ACP.

  • glock.... IT ALWAYS FUCKIN WORKS..

  • SW MP is better.

  • 1911 with threaded barrel and dust cover rail. Problem solved.

  • @LifeisGood762 What about the mag cap?

  • @Carbide195 What ABOUT the mag cap? It's a sidearm, a secondary. It isn't meant to be used as a primary weapon, it's designed to be a reliable "last ditch" weapon. Not an uber tactical super pistol that you're forcing into a rifle role.

  • @LifeisGood762 *sigh. Listen, d'you wanna reload more in your "last ditch" scenario or what?

The 1911 is a nice gun, yes, but practically speaking, who wants to be fumbling 'round for more mags in any scenario?

  • @Carbide195 It's nice to have more rounds, but, practically speaking, who is going to be in a scenario that can be solved with 16 rounds that can't be solved with 9? You think Private Joe is going to be taking 16 well aimed close range shots before Raghead Hamil and five of his buddies unload on him? More likely he'll use his pistol for a very limited time in order to get his rifle up and running. You don't fight wars with a pistol.

  • @LifeisGood762 what if you drop your rifle and have to run? i'd want a good backup

  • @Carbide195 On another note what do you think, 9 or .45ACP?

  • @LifeisGood762 i carry the fnp45 concealed.so technically it is my primary

  • @trinexxxbaker We're talking army here, not what you carry.

  • I have no opinions on what the replacement for the Beretta M9 should be.... Only that the M9 is/was a mistake to win the original trials in the first place.... it was a political / nato bureaucracy decision and not one based on the design or function of the pistol.. In truth there are dozens of full size autos better suited to military service then the Beretta M9...Lots of evidence of the 9mm effectiveness with hollow points....However when restricted to non-expanding FMJ the 45acp is superior.

  • @rainmechanic you make an amazing point with the ammo resictions

  • 9mm Sig. It was their 2nd choice because of price even though it tested better than the Berreta.

    Hell get an American gun

  • @gat0rbball The ruger sr9c!!!! its a slim glock with bells AND whistles

  • Everybody on You Tube always thinks the handgun they own would make the best choice for the military. Fact is there is no such thing as the perfect sidearm. The military has a lot of logistics and training issues it has to deal with that the everyday civilian does not. What works for you may not for the thousands of 18 year old high school kids entering the military and training to shoot these guns. That FN is nice and it has a lot of bells and whistles, but that is also it's downfall.

  • The army also wanted to step up to the .45 acp for knock down power.

  • @SpliffMcTwist they should just go back to the 1911A1 lol

  • We roll with SIG 229 .40 S/W

  • Good pick Zal...i love .45s and I myself, even though I own and have fired hundreds of firearms have never fired the FNP Tac, but ive always have enjoyed the look and feel of the it when i checked it out at the local firearms dealer...personally im a sig man and would say the sig 1911 scorpion would be my choice just because theres a reason the 1911 has been one of the most used and love handguns for the last 100 yrs...I would say they most likley would go with a 9mm because of there surplus.

  • if you're in the army why do you use handgun on 50 yards, use your assault rifle.

  • I heard they went 9mm,which pissed me off, good to see I was misinformed.

  • The us military might as well buy FN at this point

  • Glocks aren't military weapons... The military doesn't want a gun that looks like a McDonalds toy, even though they have proven to be accurate and somewhat reliable. Even the sigma is more reliable, its easier to take apart and clean, and it has ideal ergonomics. Im not saying the military should use the sigma, but seriously its a fantasy that glocks would be put with our military. I have no disrespects at all, i actually own glocks and love them, but they aren't as good as people say thy are.

  • Glock 21

  • .45 S&W.

  • glock 23

  • The S&W M&P was just adopted by US the treasury department because it beat out the Glock, and a few others, in testing. Actually the Glock and M&P preformed equally however the M&P is available with a thumb safety and its interchangeable back straps include palm swells. The treasury department has passed on a recommendation to the army.

  • @mechredd I didn't know that. The M&P is a good pistol. I never was a Glock or Sig fan. Glocks are too light in the nose, and Sigs weigh like a million pounds, lol! My large hands only like certain pistol frames. I try to buy what is comfortable for my hands, and the M&P has the interchangeable grips.

  • glock 17, sig sauer p223, S&W p99, or a nice sturdy old 1911

  • @charlieboyopera you mean waalther p99?

  • they should replace m9 with fn Five Seven

  • @madgamer099 Ya. Because the ammo is so universal.

  • @madgamer099 But there is no need for the armor piercing ammo in sidearms. The ammunition would be expensive in an initial phase. The 20 round capacity isn't that important when you compare it to 15 9x19mm.

The Five-seveN would only be the optimal solution if the P90 was issued in great numbers.

  • Glock 21 (45acp) short frame. Glocks are bombproof and the 45 is a stopper even in FMJ.

  • What ever the Army chooses to replace its present sidearm damn well better be AMERICAN MADE !!!

  • SMITH AND WESSON M&P....9mm with ambi safety...problem solved.

  • For those who believe the 1911 is the way to go. It did receive an upgrade, hence the variation of the 1911 and 1911A1. Sights, trigger, backstrap, firing pin block, Safety and a few other various parts i believe. The barrel was shortened then frames had been shortened resulting in The Government, Commander and Officer models. For as much as I like the idea also the replacement weapon needs to be one like this FN. Accomodating to new shooters, high mag cap and fully Ambi.

  • Having the FN-x 9mm. I feel this pistol would make a better service pistol then the M9 just due to the fact that it is FULLY ambidextrious so even 1 handed operations is easy.

  • M&P9 with a thumb safety

  • They probably won't replace them for a long time.

  • @sniper2298 I think if a "good capitalist" were to put his money behind we could have a modern 1911 at a reasonable price. But there is the "that's not a real 1911" risk. I wish somebody would just take that calculated "chance" and do it.

  • that gun looks great, but what about bringing back the M1911. It can have extended mags, or make a new design. Also, what about the SIG Sauer P226, it is the Navy SEALs gun. Or they could use the P229 whatever. Just look at SIG Sauers guns.

  • @sniper2298 Sigs are bulky and heavy for one thing. Polymer pistols make sense when saving weight. S&W, Taurus, Sig, Ruger, and Rock Island Armory (includes the Auto Ordinance) all produce a 1911. RIA, Auto Ordinance, and S&W make the most reasonably priced 1911 builds. The GI bare-bones S&W is about $600 retail, the RIA about $400, and the AO is about $500-550. I can't remember the price on the Taurus model. Some troops want to move away from the 9mm altogether from what I hear.

  • Yeah, because the 9mm doesn't have adequate stopping power

  • @sarxsoma666 If you check Winchester's ballistics calculator on their website, the 9mm isn't any more effective than the .40 or the .45 at 50 yards using standard FMJ. The .40 has a little more ft. lbs of impact than the .45, and both have more kinetic impact than the 9mm. Capacity isn't half as important as shot placement. I tell my buddy that if you need to shoot that many tangos with a pistol, you're a dead man anyways: you should be using a rifle :D

  • @sarxsoma666 I agree. The 9mm loses more than 100ft/ps and more than 50ft/lbs of impact at 50 yards. It loses speed and energy because it's lighter than the .40 and .45. The .45 may be slower, but it only loses about 30ft/lbs at 50 yards. The .40 loses about 40ft/ps 25ft/lbs at 50 yards. I would reach for a 9mm last in an SHTF, and I have both a 9mm and a .45. The .45 is my primary sidearm backup, then the 9mm (leg rig), and a .38spc (behind my back) ;)

  • for everyone who disagrees suck a nut. they should have have kept the colt m1911 its a .45 and its still used by c.i.a and other federal agencies today still

  • The 1911 should never have left service. It just needed to be upgraded. The Sig P229 is a great gun but the HK USP Tactical is an ultimate choice especially with a few mods so that smaller hands can handle it.

  • @DobermansRock On a last note I do like the gun you have talked about. John Moses Browning is still very much alive. FN is where he took his ideas last. Great video brother. Read "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross and join the NRA as well as your state associations. 5 stars and I say that because I carried that limp dick M-9 Berretta for 10 years. What a shit gun and the 9MM is a shit bullet for combat.

  • @snydergt I did not mention I'm adding M&P and a Beretta PX4 Storm to my arsenal but, except for the M&P, "here you go again" (Ronald Reagan-that's what he says). I've heard good 24/7 reviews but don't know anyone that owns one & every-time I'm shopping the sales reps (for obvious reasons) try to sell me something else.

  • i thought m9s did well on the 90,000 round mark?

  • @snydergt gracias amigo! I'm in Miami and that's one of the reasons. I have a good friend that refuses to buy foreign (WW 2 Vet). I've been buying from "the enemy" "nazis", "communists", and "japs" cars, guns, etc (that's what he says). He's a 1911 guy and I respect him a lot. I don't think like him but when you see your friends killed in action, it changes you....sometimes forever.

  • The 1911 should never have been replaced. What the hell makes it "obsolete"?

  • @Thelonesniper101 would rather carry around 10 mags or 5 mags for about the same amount of bullets?

  • You are incorrect about how contracts work with the government; just because they have an existing contract for, say, the M16 does not mean they can necessarily procure pistols any easier - and probably not on the same contract/vehicle either way. Other than FN's track record as past performance, it would not have bearing on the choice.

  • too bad you pretty much need to break the safety to fully detail strip the gun.

  • My name speaks for itself about my preferences. Going outside of this vid's topic...Can anyone recommend a Taurus (for me (target/home). I am thinking about the 24/7). Knowing so little about them: will they ever get a chance at all to be considered seriously by LE or military?

  • @hksigglock probably not until they make reliable semi-autos. If your name speaks for itself, why would you ever consider a Taurus over...well, name it. Planning a shootout in Miami?

  • Dude..do you do the voice of the bear on The Cleveland Show??

  • The Army's new gun? God I hope so, the M9s my unit has are old as the hills -just bare metal steel. The new ones absolutely suck. Even brand new M9s just suck, they have horrible features. Everything the FNP has is what we need, hopefully Uncle Sam makes a good move here. I can only hope.

  • go back to the 1911....maybe a double stack,so its gonna weight a bit more but oh well

  • fn545

  • umm .....glock, springfield xdm, ummm sig sauer! desert eagle, just for the hell of it ...these should be the ones , nothing else.

  • springfield XDm

  • From what I've read the Joint combat pistol program had narrowed there choices down between the FNP tactical 45 and the HK45. I own both and either would be a solid choice. But instead they stayed with the god awful Beretta M9's. I guess when all your federal dollars have to go towards welfare and other bullshit, the troops have to carry POS on their sides.

  • The M9 isn't going anywhere. The military just placed a huge order not long ago.I don't think they would spend that kind of money on something they plan to replace.

  • Water, mud, dirt, dust, brick dust, concrete dust, the Mk23 SOCOM CAN TAKE ALL THAT AND A BEATING BRUTAL COLD,HIGH HEAT EVIRONMENT AND STILL KEEP ON TICKING.VERY DURABLE, AND DEPENDABLE.

  • Mk23 SOCOM .45 ACP THE BEST !!!

  • FN 5.7 hand(gun)s down
