Yeah, I'm not understanding the world anymore... why this music, so inspiring, relaxing and confortable is less viewed and appreciated than the pop shit?...
@ryan0rhyno I'm not sure if it's even that simple. We can't ignore hype, advertisement, commodification, and the like. Could it be that Miley Cyrus is only popular because Disney has spent so much money convincing us she should be? Is pop popular only because record labels can pay to have it aired on certain mainstream channels? I'm not sure if we get to decide what is popular--but I doubt Katy Perry is really THAT in touch with the "human condition."
@lalo6437 I understand where you're coming from, but I think its more Corporatism than Captialism, and the misuse of advertising power over the public.
I'm a right-libertarian, and I don't see how you can discern whether he knows those terms from what he said, lol. Corporatism is an system where companies have certain legal advantages in that they can act as a person and do such things as lobby the government and pay for presidential campaigns legally. Capitalism is simply allowing the market to take its course.
@TheBoomstickhero Corporatism is a system that is part of fascism. Generally it has to do with interest groups formally negotiating with the state through state-owned associations. Capitalism refers to an economic system with private property, a profit-based economy and wage labor.
I don't think Tortoise has any song better than this. Prove me wrong.
