Saw two at least 8 footers right in front of Wyndam and Surfside and Seascape late this summer. Near the shore, while swimmers were in water oblivious. The stupid thing is that people go in at dusk and dawn when they feed...not good idea especially since that 14 year old was killed just a couple of years ago here.
@quazzie11 ikr the only sharks florida gets in the gulf is really lemon sharks and not really likly but bull sharks but ull never see thoes on the shore but ik were alot of nurse sharks go in flordda and you can swim with them to :D
@stickarenalabpass In 2005 there was a 15 year old girl killed by a bull shark between Destin and Sandestin. If you're familiar with the beaches, she and a friend were out past the trough, where humans drop on the food chain. Plus a large hammerhead was caught at the pier in Ft Walton and another was seen swimming under the Destin bridge toward the bay/sound. There are tons of species of shark in the Gulf, from lemons to makos to whale sharks and bulls... even Great Whites.
@quazzie11 It is proven that there has been no great whites in the gulf coast, at least great white attacks, so I don't find it true that they're out there. Could be wrong, wouldn't be worried though.
@MaNiMaBaLLa You're right, there haven't been any White attacks. Whites prefer cooler waters, so you won't see them in the summer (when people are also in the water). They're out there, though.... don't kid yourself. Do a Google search for Great White sharks in Gulf of Mexico.
yes we have sharks on the emerald coast, in the 26 years I have lived here I have only heard of 4 shark attacks, that is very few indeed considering hundreds of thousands of people swim at our beaches every year. I love swimming in the Gulf, so I will take my chances.
Destin's ocean, a few years ago, during the drought was very clear. It was unusually clear all the way along the gulf coast (western side) and ppl were able to see the actual sharks swimming along the surf. It didn't attract more sharks, that's how many are there ALL THE TIME. It was just a year that people could see them more clearly in the surf! Destin is a wonderful beach, all the way thru Panama City and up thru Mexico City Beach, Fl. and out by Tyndall Air Force Base spinner sharks breed.

@quazzie11 Haha, I'm not worried. I think it's pretty cool how some migrate and others don't. Thanks for the info though.
