What a gorgeous performance from all of them. Does anyone know whether a DVD of this exists? Despite being sang in German it is so beautifully done that it doesn't detract at all. I would love to know where to get it from. Hallstein is just such a joy to watch. As well as having this amazing crystalline voice and technique, her acting is a joy to watch.
The baritone is Barry McDaniel from the Berlin Deutsche Oper. Check out youtube video doing PearlFishers duet with Alfredo Kraus...wonderful! I have known Barry since 1972...great underrated performer, now retired, 79 years old, living in Berlin, Germany. A wonderful man.
The bass singing the turk is quite wonderful, he reminds me a bit of Hermann Prey, on the other hand the tenor actually hams much of his music and incredibly overacts :-(! Hallstein is still wonderful, though :-)! By the way, is that actually Hermann Prey in the role of the poet???

Dallapozza ist der "Rosarote", Czerwenka ist der"Grüner Frack/Gelbes Hemd, Barry Mc Daniel ist der"Scheich", H. Prey ist nur ganz kurz zu sehen.
