Jay Dee was so ahead of his time and this song one of many that proves that point...forreal who thinks of sampling JB's words to incorporate it into the verses??..and what ?uestlove was saying about his ability to match the beat to an artists vocals are so true...this track is simply genius
long live J Dilla! i'm working on a project consisting of all Dilla beats (released or un-released) & if anyone can get in touch with the Yancey Estate please inbox me. i want them to see how Dilla's work inspired me. i already uploaded a few on my channel anything with a picture of Dilla feel free to check it out & give your input i want to make sure i'm doing his work justice. peace & blessings!
yo, ima say this, i was spittin one day, and my boy was like yo, I got something for you, right, so Im like ok, he says, this the group i was telling you about that you sound like, in the way yo flava is and vibe when you spit...and it said Slum Village Vol. 1 fantastic man I fell off my seat trippin cause i never heard of these cats befo, but they was the group that knew my vibe and i was sold, so why a good thang always go phucked up, and break up when they seem to get betta?
@MrMorningside125 jdilla was a part of the production that formed tribes sound. Back then he was known as jay -dee.. So its kinda the other way around.
so..anyone know what is the actual track that is sampled.. the one that is being played on a loop under the James Brown scratches by Jeff... its clearly not a James Brown track... sounds like some thing from switzerland ... some strings being plucked...partially played at the last 5 seconds of the track????
Yesterday, i was listening to music in the subway with my mp3 on shuffle mode and i ran across JB 'Make it Funky' What you gonna play now? ... Bobby, i don't know... but i didn't feel like listening to this(is that possible anyway?) so i skipped to another song and this tune came up; words can hardly express what i felt at this very moment, i mean there are hundreds of songs i could have ran across but it had to be this one! the smile in my face was priceless :)))))))))))))
i feel as though some of you are taking things the wrong way....Just because we say Dilla, Premo, and Pete Rock are obviously the greatest...we dont discount the other greats...its just clear to me and a lot of others that Dilla stands alone...thats all...no disrespect to the others who put it down...but even Premo and Pete Rock...ill take Dilla all day every day any day lol

I agree wit almost everybody, but Jay Dee,
madlib and Dj mitsu truly missin,
maybe nujabes and samon kawamura too
but though some people claim hip hops dead
there´re still too many great producers
to put em on a top ten list!!!
Buxdehoode 3 years ago
damn man... dilla and pete should be top 5 easily. everyone got different preference tho so i aint hatin. beatminerz is nice
misticbrew 3 years ago
Jazzy Jeff should seriously be on this list! Especially since he scratch on this track!
