  • the 787 engines are bigger than 747 engines and yet the 787 is smaller! how strange

  • One of these things is not like the other. . .

  • @1MRFATCAT it's a 747-400 but they equipped 2 787 turbines on and didn't use other ones... 2 787 turbines can lift that 747

  • @theneocuber01 Hey dummy, It's a 200. 400's have winglets and a longer hump.

  • That's not a 787

  • this is a 747-8i...

  • it's engine from 787

  • Wtf why is there only one RR engines

  • @daunushamilton because it is showing how 1 RR engine can lift off a 747 - the other 3 normal 747 engines were off!

  • @XxXLtqiXxX o okay but does it add weight and make it unbalanced

  • Fun Fact:- the trent 1000 was the only one on! All the others were off! dont believe look it Up

  • @64MojoMan Being a maintenance controller for a fleet of 747's I can tell you that the other three engines were churning and burning. You DO have other aircraft systems that require the use of the engines: hydraulics, pneumatics, and electricity. Quit relying on an encyclopedia that is run by a bunch of fucking crackheads like those at Wikipedia. They are usually more wrong than right!

  • anyone noticed that the engines àn the inside are bigger?

    On a normal 747 they're the same

  • It is Boeing 747!!!NOT 787!!!

  • @789know they're testing the roll royce engine that boeing will be using on the 787. wow people these days.

  • NO, NO! Don't get too close, u will get sucked In man...

  • Boeing 748 xD

  • awesome office fan!

  • This plane would look so cool if they put 4 of the 787 engines :O

  • @iBizkitas thats basicly what the 747-8 has

  • @yoyoyoyoshua right :)

  • Correction to my post Justin is the right one Derek is correct about the 747-400 but this aircraft test bed is a B747-200. Cheers and apologies for the misnomer.

  • As I live where this aircraft is currently based and know the people who work on it I will settle the debate over this aircraft. It is a Boeing 747-200 it's tail number is N787RR and it is owned by Rolls Royce. It has the Trent 1000 in the number 2 position as Derek stated and he is correct on his post. Cheers mates....

  • One of these engines is not like the other!

  • 787 Engines on a 747 is so cool.

  • 747...........Ufa

  • Uhh..Yeah. Thats a 747. Retards.

  • 747-400

  • @tiesto661 It's a 747-200. Pause at 1:46 and google image Boeing 747-200. Compare the two photos and it will look the same.. God, I hate stupid people who thinks they know what the aircraft is... And its not.

  • 747-400

  • this is a 747.... gosh, everyone can publish clips here...??????

  • Bloody hell thats some size and the fact that the 787 is a lot smaller than the 747 makes it a humongous engine

  • It's the engines test for the 787,who fucking cares if It's not the plane himself..

  • The engine looks so different with the jagged back end.

  • The engine looks so different with the jagged back end.

  • i hate to tell people off but this is the 747-800 not the 787

  • @derek1122339. No it is not the -800. Its the 747-200.

  • @yousef271981 wow ur a retard i saw a picture of this plane at an airport and it said 747-800!!!!!!!

  • @derek1122339 A retard....really.... Your the dumb fuck who actually thought he saw this plane at the airport saying it was the -800... .You didn't...

  • @derek1122339 Wow.. As most aviation experts would say, This is a Boeing 747-200.... Notice it has a shorter upper deck with no wingtip fence. You're the dumbass, retard. Do your homework!

  • @justincrzo yah but the 747-200 has 4 similar engines while the 747-8 has 2 bigger engines and 2 smaller engines

  • @derek1122339 Oh my God.... Dude, please do your research. This is a Boeing 747-200 reconfigured by Boeing to be a testbed (for research). Obviously, they replaced their engine #2 with a bigger Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 to test the engines for the future Boeing 787. EVERYONE CAN CONFIRM THAT THIS IS A BOEING 747-200 TESTBED!!!

  • @derek1122339 What do you say? All of 747-8 engines are the same, man!

  • @derek1122339 no 747-8 has all 4 large engines this is a 747-200 IN TEST FOR THE 787 ENGINE!

  • @yousef271981 ur right look at 1:50 and the upper deck is shorted than the 300 and 400

  • The A380 uses 4 Trent 900s. How pwerful these things can be!!!!!!!!!!!!! For me, planes are the best invention of mankind. Nothing else! Computers, cars, lifters or all those little shits are nothing compared to these beasts.

  • @Guilland23 modern planes are flown by computers, i dont think they are so shitty...

  • God some people are dumb lol

  • GE-90 and GENx engines are amazing.

    RR Rocks.

Sorry PW, don't like the engines on the 757 and 767.

  • @ 0:55 i thought that was a coke machine :P

  • And also from what I heard they took off with the RR engine at idle and began testing performance in flight.

  • I am wondering if they Ballasted the other wing with more fuel or weight to compensate for the larger and heavier RR engine on the port wing?

  • Why did it show a B747 not the B787?

  • because its the test bed for the rr engine, inside port engine is the one for the 787

  • i never really knew what this was but what is that on the very back at 0:06

  • Its called the APU (Auxillary Power Unit)

Its another little jet engine that powers the airplane when the 4 big engines are turned off.

Its also used for starting the engines.

  • @nickiownu thanks, i always thought it was a little engine but wasnt really sure

  • this is boeing 747-8 not 787

  • thats a 747 nat a 787

  • title should read: Boeing 787 Dreamliner ENGINE test bed

  • @sellboy33 - It's not a 787, but the video title doesn't say it is, this is just a test for the 787. Here they're testing the Rolls Royce Trent 1000, which will be used by all 787's... as you can see only 1 of the 4 engines of this 747 is a Trent 1000. They obviously need to test the engine's performance in flight before the Dreamliner is ready to fly safely.

  • what...ur amazed by the fact that RR used a B747 to test an engine for a BOEING 787?....yeah....shocking! that they didnt use an Airbus vehicle!

  • it let me amazing that they use the 747 for test

  • boeings are beautiful.. unlike airbusses.

  • 747 747 747 747 747 747 747 747 747

  • the 2 big engines are used in boeing 787 the smaller ones belong to 747.

  • @xdragon9000x theres only 1 trent 1000 on that plane

  • look mr. CaptainCOXhall7 I know wat 747 looks like I'm pilot for fuck sake...but that 747 is above average in size that's why I thought it might be a 787...fagg

  • Uhhhhhhh... Wow......

You really don't have to be a pilot to draw the line between a 747 and a 787. If you happened to have misread or misunderstood what is quoted in the description and the title which is in English (as a pilot should know), I'm shocked at the fact that you are one where I know pilots require precision.

  • I thought they only came in twins...can some one please exlplain why they got a 787 with four engines?????

  • thats not a 787 thats a 747 the test craft for every engine test... GE uses 747 to test their engines as well with P&W

  • @Muhammadz86 Are you really that dumb It's a 747 with a Trent 1000 engine! TEST BED. ROLLS ROYCE. ZOMFG Nub :P

  • Man, that one engine can eat the other smaller ones for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  • wow thats a bit huge

  • to jest boeing 747 dzambo a nie 787 , 747 ma 4 silniki i proste skrzydla, 777 na 2 silniki i inny uklad skrzydel.

  • that the engine the 777s have on them

  • Flyglobspan!!!!

  • They can't just go with GE alone. Over 600 airlines operate Rolls powered aircraft. Besides, Rolls Royce have the only family of large turbofans in the world and the greatest market share.

  • The trent 1000 looks HUGE compared to the 747 engines.

I heard it generated so much thrust they were able to fly the 747 without the 3 original engines fired up!

  • Ohh i get it now notice carefully there using the 747 to test out the 787 engine because boeing uses 747's to test there other airline engines why because the 747 has enough power to fly on 3 so if the one there testing dies for some reason there safe all they do is remove 1 of the 747 engines and replace it with the new 787 engine to test and the maker is rolls royce of the trent 1000

  • Comment removed

  • This is a 747, idiot, not a 787

  • You are so clever, thanks for telling us! Try to see the vid once more and tell us something more about the four non-identical engines... Have you got it?

  • @webdigital You are more IDIOT, THIS IS A 787 ENGINE TEST in a AIRCRAFT OF 747 MODEL

LEARN AVIATION AND DONT SAY SHITS

    A320 Pilot

  • owh really captain, please tell me the standard procedure of starting an a320.. and before take-off checklist...and 1 question 1 if you are supposed to land an a320 on a heavy crosswind what is the best touchdown speed...? :D

Sincerly, Veteran International Malaysia Airlines Pilot (32 years of experience)

  • It is not Boeing 787!!

  • Hold it, my friend, this Boeing 747 you see here is used to test the Boeing 787´s engines. And will be used to test the Boeing 747-8´s engines as well.

  • Once again, the english have some of the shittiest teeth in the world...

  • Comment removed

  • And thats why this plane needs some of the biggest jet engines in the world, to get all the fat Americans off the ground.

  • that engine is absolutely enormous.

  • Frame :54----is that Danny Gast??

  • what is that little port hole in the back?

  • Exhaust for the APU, a generator to use on the ground.

  • The porthole in the back is the APU (auxilary power unit) exhaust. Basically it's a smaller jet engine that is used to provide power to the aircraft when ground power is unlpugged or when the engines are not running.

  • APU exhaust (auxilliary power unit---small gas turbine engine that makes the aircraft self sufficient)

  • you guys are the biggest set of dumb fucks ive ever met how could they use it on a 787 when the 787 hasent even had a test flight yet?

  • Why is everybody obsessed with GE? PW and RR are perfectly fine

  • if they put one of the really powerful engines with the rest of the engines wouldn't there be an imbalance of power on one side? and the plane would just make right turns.

  • not if they dont give full thrust to the test engine

  • ... theres 1 on each side. there's 2 747 engines and 2 787 engines on it. In addition, even if there wer only 1, you could simply apply less thrust to one engine and more thrust to the others. It's not that hard!

  • @AznPwnageFTW no...theres 3 747 engines and 1 787 engine

  • but u r right in case one side has more thrust than the other the plane would make turns if the pilot wouldn't adjust his 'steering' and the plane would also start rolling to one side

  • thinks everybody should read d2gizzo's post before stating the obvious..... yes its a 747 but its testing one Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine for the 787.

    Notice the larger engine !?

  • You idiot ! that's a 747 fool!

  • That's a B-747!!

    Where"s the B-787??

  • the engines are tested on the 747

  • thats an boeing 747!!!!!!!!!

  • they are just showing the engine

  • no doubt this is 747!

  • I bet this 747 test bed was worried when it saw the size of the engine that was going to be strapped to it! XD. BTW. It seems that there is some confusion as to why this is called a "787 Dreamliner test bed" - well, this is because they are testing the engines for the 787 on the 747 "tests bed". It''s quite simple.

  • both GEnx and rolls royce trent 1000 can be mounted on the 787, on the 747-8 however only GEnxb engines are chosen for that aircraft.

  • y it is bad?

  • omg this is is not the 787 dreamliner...

is it so difficult to understand change the name

  • Brother is the test bed check the motors and 747 is testing the 787's motor trent so he wont change the name

  • No the plane is 747, but they are testing the Trent 1000 engines, on the 747, Those engines will be on the 787. The 747 is the "test bed" for the 787.

Get it now? but the name is a bit confusing =]

  • oh right the boeing 747 is testing 787's motor

  • This Ait No 787

  • why don't they make the engine 3 and 4 the same size as the engine 1 and 2 ? it would had make the plane look nice. cause 3,4, lok like 747 engine and this 787 right.

  • they dont know how the engine would perform or react in the air so they needed a test bed, the 747 can still fly with 3 engines in case the test engine fails

  • 747

  • He knows it the test engines for the 787, will the large one!!!!

  • this is a boeing 747 not a 787!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The only 787 engine on the aircraft is the number 2 engine.

Dont know why you think engines 3 and 4 are 787 engines?????

  • 747 r tard changer the title -.-

  • This video has a serious lack of Boeing 787s in it.

THIS IS A 747, YOU RETARD.

  • no they are testing with the engines and they uses 747 to test the 787s engines!

  • YOU RETARD they are testing b787 engines

  • Then how come it wasn't mentioned anywhere (video, title, description, etc)?

We need INFORMATION before we can know what the hell is going on. If you guys know they're testing 787 engines right off the bat, good for you, but what about everyone else? Once again, INFORMATION would be nice.

  • ummm Test Bed...

Test beds are just that. They aren't the final Air Craft.

  • this is a B 747

  • tey put 787 on the 747 to test them

  • THIS IS THE TEST BED

  • Dear All,

I have some questions on psychology:

    *Why do we love flying?

*Why do we always want to new design aeroplanes that can fly faster, higher and more luxury? *What is the motivation behind our delication these aviation milestone?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstrom!!!

  • Heres my answers:

    1. We love it because we can travel around the world at a very high speed.

    2. Because we want luxury rather than squaller. It's basically greed.

    3. Dunno

  • It isn't psychology, it's called TRAVELING. We fly in aircraft because they can take us to destinations faster and quicker. The reason we have luxuries in it is because airplanes cause noise pollution and there are very little things to do aboard.

    There you have it.

  • fuck you spammer

  • Why the jagged rear nacelle edge on the inner engines?

    --

  • Comment removed

  • nicer i guess i like them

  • Beautiful, awesome... So big, so heavy and it flies so softly... planes are great.

  • I am buying one today

  • 747 with 787 engines

  • the 747 high pass engines look big in comparison to the 737's...

    now this !?!?

    WOW

  • Is it true that Boeing did`nt want to use Rolls Royce engines on the dreamliner ?

  • All of theirplanes except the 717, 727, and 737. Do not use them, 747 and up they do. Great engine. I still beleive P&W is better

  • I pretty sure the 717 uses Rolls Royce engines.

  • woot for PW, i think they give more performance, nothing like a 757 with PWs taking off from john wayne airport in orange county.

  • It probably is true Boeing did want to let Rolls Royce have an engine on the B787. Its called protectionism. However as many airlines use Rolls Royce engines they let them make an engine for the 787 for fear that some airlines would not buy it without a RR engine choice.

However as for the new 747-800 Boeing have given an exclusivity contract to American company General Electric where they are the only company allowed to have engines on the aircraft.

  • No it's not true. That was their whole contract. To use the Trent 1000

  • I have just found out that initially, Boeing toyed with the idea of sole sourcing the powerplant for the 787, with GE being the most likely candidate. However, potential customers demanded choices and Boeing relented.

  • it's 747 not 787

  • its a 747 plane. the engines are 787's

  • dumb guy

  • I have some question on psychology.

Why do we enjoy flying? Why do we want to be a aerospace engineer to design new aeroplanes? Why do we like to travel to space?

Please provide me some creative ideas and brainstorms.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

  • What is the model of 747? Does this a 747-300?

  • Quote:

Rolls-Royce buys flying test bed for future engine developments

    13 June 2005

Rolls-Royce is converting a Boeing 747-200 to serve as a flying test bed for future engine development programmes.

The first engine to be tested on the aircraft, in mid 2007, will be the Trent 1000, currently being developed as launch engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The RB211-524C2-powered aircraft, acquired by Rolls-Royce from Air Atlanta Icelandic

  • The Airbus A350 will be powered by Rolls Royce Menai 400's. Yes, I like that. Merlin, Menai. It conjurs up something magical. But the tide ebbing and flooding is the problem. A bit AC/DC but that's a bonus isn't it ? Going just one way is only half the fun.

  • The Airbus A350 (Airbus XWB) will be powered by 2 x Rolls Royce Trent 2000 (aka Trent XWB) engines

  • Now that the Trent marks have reached four digits (1000) - I think it's time to introduce a new name and numbers. I propose Menai. Why? because the tide flows through it (the Menai Straits) like the air flowing through a Rolls engine. The only problem is - the tide flows the other way too and the air must not do that in a jet engine. But non-the-less Menai should be the name of next generation RR engines. Actually, I think I should get some sort of reward for such creative thinking.

  • why is the 787 cengine caka rrt1000 in a 747

  • am I wrong about the length of the 747?it looks longer than usual though.

  • Imagine having 4 on it. That thing would take off like a champ.

  • Would the 747 fly around in circles with that really powerful engine on it :P And to the people that say it's a 747, no shit. They're just testing the 787 engines. Think before posting retarded comments.

  • this is 747, no 787, lol

  • I live verry near a major airport, It seems impossible for something that big to fly sometimes

  • Last time i checked... that is not a 787 it is actully a 747

  • I think they are testing the engine...

  • THATS A 747!!!!!!!!!!
