Друг, я тут обнаружил как эту песню со смешным попсовым текстом поют англичане. У того видео почти 1,5 млн. просмотров, там англоязычные слезы льют в комментах, мол лет 40 слушаем эту песню и плачем. Сделай им видеоответ своим роликом! Я пробовал, но это мне самому надо у себя иметь твой ролик.Набери: The Seekers - The Carnival Is Over.(1968)

Parts of the melody sounds very similar to the french anthem La Marseillaise. But both songs are very great ones! :-)

Есаулы, недовольные пьянством атамана и его привязанностью к пленнице, пытаются вразумить Стеньку и разлучить с княжной. Они подбрасывают ему подмётное письмо, якобы адресованное княжне каким-то принцем Хасаном. В припадке ревности Разин расправляется с княжной всем известным способом.

@123dveri Согласно пушкинской трактовке сюжета, утопление княжны было актом жертвоприношения Волге за дарованные ему богатство и славу.

«Песни о Степане Разине» не были напечатаны при жизни поэта. Николай I, к которому Пушкин обратился за разрешением, передал вежливый, но отказ: «…при всём поэтическом своем достоинстве, по содержанию своему не приличны к напечатанию. Сверх того, церковь проклинает Разина, равно как и Пугачёва».

@sshipway Yeah Tom Springfield who wrote the song based it on the song. It says in some versions of the sheet music even say based on the song "Stenka Razin".

@sshipway You're right. Tom Springfield used Stenka Razin for the tune to Tha Carnival. My mother, who was of German birth and had east European parents pointed this out to me over 45 years ago.

Yes, it is Sadko as I've written in "more info". But my task was not to show real Stenka Razin or persian princess, but to show the voice of Boris Shtokolov, the beauty of Volga, old Russian times and boats. I've seen the film about Stenka Razin. And I think his image is only a fantasy of its producer, but not real Stenka at all :) As this song is only a legend of his life, but not a real story. It is a pity that we'll never see real Razin, because in the old days there were no video cameras :)

In posting a translation (amalgamated from several web sources: write me for details) I seem to have messed up the order of the stanzas ... The song should start "From beyond the wooded island," and you should ignore the sentence "Singable translation: PART ONE"

Yes, it starts: "From beyond....

then follows stanza: "On the first...

then: "But behind....

then: "Fierce ataman...

then: "I will give you all you ask for...(but he says it not to the princess, He means a mother Volga or his band...)

then follows a stanza about princess who is listening to words of Stenka with great awe (it's absent - the most calm part)

then goes: "Volga, Volga, mother Volga...

In this var. (you can see here) of the song the next is: "With a sudden, mighty movement...
