I'm glad my Takeuchi is set up the same as my backhoe, I know the feeling, but in reverse. My first shot at excavator pattern on a cat was just about as pretty as yours in backhoe pattern. (I wonder why they had the machine you were using set up like that in the first place?)

Yeah I don't like that, We have a 1974 Ford and once a Case 888 and they both had JD controls, it takes me 10-15 minutes to get used to the opposite controls when the other 2 excavators.

i believe JD controls are for farmers IMO. i can run both but it takes 15 minutes for me to get used to deere, for just one valve being different it puts a world of hurt on your brain

I guess they can't use weed killer since it's a water source. I had a small hoe once and I liked the 'heavy' controls, swing and boom, on the left and the 'light' controls, stick and bucket, on the right. I'm right handed and my left arm is like a club foot so it worked out.

You should try to be proficient in both ways unless you never have to use a different machine. Operating different equipment is gauranteed in my job and you have to learn to use both types of controls. Won't take you long to get used to it and you'll be better for it. Some machines do have a selector switch but none where I work.
