  • FEWER!!! come on hank, your own brother is an author!! get your head out of your grammerless bum haah :D

  • I like blurbs but I hate when you get a book that doesn't tell you anything about the book but has six blurbs that say it's amasing! I just want to know about the book, not what other people think!

  • There is a john green book on the Hunger Games - Awesome!

  • My girlfriend read me Paper Towns. I'm 20. She read it to me over the phone over the course of a few days. I couldn't get enough of it.

  • Interestingly enough, that's the first assignment in our class called "inklings": read a book, then write an all-encompassing review of it in one sentence.

  • I feel so not-nerdfighter-y, but I didn't like 13 Little Blue Envelopes. Like, I liked the idea of it, and I liked a lot of different things about it, but... I just couldn't get into it. I was at like the 4th or 5th envelope, and I was just like... "I'm just gonna read what all of the envelopes say and call it a done deal."

  • "The Brothers Karamazov."

    Comes in four parts.

  • this sounds like twitter

  • 2 weeks that long?

  • noooooooo! he was hot with long hiar

  • I loved that book.

  • I like reading, but I'm only at the February 2008 out of august of 2011 in your videos. And I have a short attention span, so four minute videos are a lot easier for me to get into than 300 page books. *sigh*

  • I really liked that book. A lot. Really.

  • Aw I really liked 13 little blue envelopes :)

  • Holy crap! Like, 2 years ago, I checked that book out at the library, before I even knew about nerdfighting or you guys! I liked the book so much I refused to turn it into the library for a very long time, and I had to pay a fine, and I felt really guilty for robbing someone of the chance to read it, but GOSH AM I EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

P.S. I'm a little bit obsessed right now. I wonder if I'll ever be less excited about nerdfighting. I sure hope not.

  • What's the book called that he wants to re-read?

  • A later edition of a John Marsden book called 'So much to tell you', has a blurb that totally spoils the end! Throughout the whol book, the audience doesn't know the narrator's name, whcih is revealed at the end, or in this case also on the back of the book.

I've always wondered who wrote the blurb.

  • I used to love reading and then I went to school and now every time I hear blurb, book, or a title that I have never heard of I instantly feel tired.

  • I recently read 13 Little Blue Envelopes. I know I'm a little late for submitting something to the blurbing book club about it, but I only found vlogbrothers videos 6 months ago - I loved them all! Anyway, here's my reaction to the book, if you're interested! watch?v=8OxbuAOkoEU

  • lolz sidear

  • Intro = MOVIE MAGIC!

  • I'm so late ;(

I know this has been said many times before. But, HE HAS AND INUYASHA POSTER! I've just started watching that show. And it must be made by a nerdfighter, because it is made of AWESOME! (sorry for all the caps. I simply cannot contain myself)

Yes. I will go get that book and read it. Because I like Mureen's videos she did when John was on paternity leave. And because you guys endorse it.

I will also watch Cowboy Bebop.

  • You used 'lame' as an insult. Future you would question your choice of insult.

  • I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED READING THAT AN HOUR AGO!

  • i liked ur old hair...

  • all right the entire harry potter series "nerd defeats bad wizatd" blam/!

  • Whats the title of the gray book hes holding up??

  • @ericsimaginaryfriend Neuromancer, by William Gibson

I remember the first time I read it, it's epic it really is. I suggest you look it up.

  • I know! People don't read enough! It seems to stop in late high school or college. But I will always continue to read!

  • ¡sɐpoɹqƃolʌ

  • While participating in a traditional book club is impossible for me, due to the fact I read at half the speed of other adults, I'd like to tell you that this vlog did get me to start reading again. Ending of "The Next of Kin" by Roger Fouts, HERE I COME!

  • Stephen King's It

  • blurb of vlogbrothers:

Nerdfighting brothers not forgetting to be awesome in My Pants.

way too many uses of the terminology...but...it works...

  • I don't read books because I spend all my time watching VlogBrothers.

  • I used to love reading books and I really wish I still did but my brain is too mushy :(

  • @JaiWren high school just ruined reading for me. we have to read all the effing time.

  • yeah, that's why I'm in an English class that requires next to no reading!

However! I did just get Paper towns yesterday and I read the whole first section last night

  • i love 13 little blue envelopes!!! my friend showed to me 2 years ago, she said it was her favorite book and oh yeah! it was amazing... but not a favorite.

  • I wish you were a teacher. The blurb idea is such a fantastic one.

  • I just opened this video and the next one at the same time, that was jokes

  • My dad keeps telling me to read Neuromancer. I tell him I'll do it eventually, but I think you just convinced me to get on it. After I finish Robert Jordan's The Eye of the World, that is.

I LOVE READING. Reading is the best thing to do ever.

  • stop saying bs and make me laugh

  • That was essentially book reports my junior year of high school. "The Cider House Rules" is hard to blurb.

  • Um...uh...how about, "You didn't forget to be awesome when you wrote this."

  • I just picked three random vlogbrothers vids to watch....and they were all about haircuts lol

  • I loved 13LBE :)

  • Hah, I was doing exactly this at my work last week - condensing blurbs to one, succinct sentence in each catalogue record. I'm not sure if it's easier or harder to do when you haven't read the book in question.

  • OMG you looked like my stalker..umm i think his name is jose.. ibex.... He walks by me and says sskk skkk skkk skkk taallk taalkkk AHHHHHHHH only taller ....and older hes like 12 OMG!

  • 13 little blue envelopes blurb

Ginny discovers the past of her aunt while discovering herself.

  • why is there so much talk about hair and haircuts in this series?

  • comment number 9

  • A sentence to describe Looking for Alaska.

    Doesn't forget to be awesome.

  • DFTBA!!!

  • Is the blurbing book club still going on?

  • a puppy sized dinasour or a full sized one?

  • THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA, I don't know if I'm in favor

of the blurb.. but I love the bookclub thing

  • wow your hair looks gross in this video, luckily your adorable face is still intact =D

  • Everytime I say "Blurbing Book Club," I somehow managed to tie my tongue in a knot that takes far too long to untie.

  • although the contest is over i want to write a blurb

    thus

"A captivating journey through love and loss."

  • inuyasha poster is win

    ^_^

i loved that show in middle school.

13 little blue envelopes is win.

  • Comment 265:

I've tried to get that book over here but I can't find it :'(

  • !!!

I totally LOVED "Nueromancer" and it's so nice to see books I've loved spoken about on YOU-TUBE.

    Hurrah, nerdfighters, hurrah.

  • Teenagerdom is a time of experience and discovery of oneself.

  • I loved Maus it was an extremely amazing story. I don't usually ready books like that but i thought it was so good that i went out and bought Maus 2 as soon as i was finished. (now that i think of it, i should have just bought the version with both parts.... too late) 13 little blue envelopes is actually it my room waiting to be read as soon as i finish Inkdeath.

  • two weeks? psh. i've read three books in three days.

two of those were An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska. LFA = probably my favorite book ever.

  • Uhh what if it is a really long book like breaking Dawn or InkDeath or Harry Pott- Nvm that is an easy to read book T.T

  • Paper Towns - Really Awesome

  • OMG.

i was gonna get that book the last time i was at the bookstore place but then i got Looking for Alaska instead bc i just had finished Paper Towns.

so atleast i got a book more/equally awesome!

    xDD

  • maus is amazing!

  • is that the graphic novel about animals in the holocaust?

  • yes. It's fantastic.

  • yes it is

  • Hmmm... Anything by Charles Dickens... "Only awesome if you have the brain to understand it." 10. Awesomeness.

  • omg I never new that the maureen johnson of this book, was the maureen johnson nerdfighter... but I read it, and I loved it.

It's the kind of adventure I wish I could have...

  • The Thirteenth Tale:

"A haunting tale of love and deceit with dark undercurrent. "

  • I read because it's one of the things that makes me feel happy. I read 23 books this summer. I really, really enjoyed that.

My general blurb on any given Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman/John Green book:

    Made of awesome.

  • Schrödinger's Cat by John Gribbin is a confusing mish-mash.

That's it. Ten words. The book & author used up five :-( Is mish-mash one or two words?

  • I read that book. =)

  • is that a inuasha poster in the backround.

  • yes it is.

  • i love to read i just finished a book called the theif lord!!!!!! now i'm reading an even bigger book!!!!

  • reading decreases world suck :)

  • reasons I read...reasons I read...

    because I like to write

    and as John previously mentioned

    reading helps with that

and also, I like discussing/reviewing a book with other people to determine their point of view compared to mine, it fascinates me.

  • i love that book i read it last year...SO GOOD

  • OMG my research paper for english this year was basically a book report it was horrendous.

  • My blurb for 13lbe- "A journey of growth with comedy and adventure."

    pretty good, eh? :)

  • Heyy Hank! I just found a book called 'Geek High' and the blurb is "you say nerd like it's a bad thing' its awesome. i haven't red it yet but the title alone is just amazing.

  • this kinda reminds me of the six word novel...

  • You got an advanced copy of Paper Towns, right? You've read it by now, right?

So, what's YOUR Paper Towns blurb?!

  • The only reason to read is for ENTERTAINMENT!!!

Do you really need another reason?

    Books and NerdFighters are awesome!!!

  • omg I love that book!

I never realized that Maureen Johnson wrote it! Nerdfighter-tastic!!!

  • ill do it!!!! YES

  • wait, hang on... people need a reason to read other than reading is fun?

  • The not-nerdfighters do but nerdfighters don't.

  • The not-nerdfighters do but nerdfighters don't.

  • I love 13 Blue Envelopes!!! Great Book!!!

  • i know rite? (:

  • Why does everyone thumbs-down the "first!" comments. I mean, would THEY not be excited if they were the first commenter on one of the Hank and John's videos. I'd be excited. And even if the person isn't first, who cares?! It's a simple mistake. People who thumbs-down these comments need to go watch nerimon's latest video.

  • Agreed!!!

  • @ishallcallyounarfba you posted this comment a looong time ago but can you tell me which video nerimon's latest was at the time?

  • such an awesome book.... I read it on the plane back from my mission to Mexico. and wow... it is awesome!

completely shows off forgotten ambitions? sounds good...

  • I think my problem is not that I dont love to read, its that I love it too much. I miss sleep.

  • The reason I don't read as much as I should is because I don't have enough time... or am reading a school book.

  • I have that same problem. For instance, right now for Swedish class, I need to read "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky (translated into Swedish of course). It kinda makes it hard to read anything else...

But it's not only that I don't have enough time to read or that I don't have any reason to read, it's also that I don't know what to read. So any suggestions would be nice. (Right now, besides Crime and Punishment, I'm reading An Abundance of Katherines.) What should I read next?

  • The current Nerdfighter Blurbing Book Club Book is "Going Postal" by Terry Pratchett.

I'm about halfway through it right now, and it is good.

  • blurb for Eclipse:

"you will never forget this book, it's made of awesome"

  • i also think you should add Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky to ur blurbing book club. its amazing and very nerd fighter-esque

  • i second that =]

  • i second that =]

  • if all you fellow nerd fighter like a good sci fi book, you should read absolution gap by Alasteir Reynold !!!

  • Another good sci-fi book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card! If you have not read it please do so it is AWESOME!!!!

  • Hmmm... well I'm kind of in the middle of a different book at the moment... but once I get more book money, I will DEFINITELY buy that book! :)

On that note, for the next book club meet I want to suggest The Astonishing Adventures of Fan Boy and Goth Girl, written by Barry Lyga. It's pretty amazing. :)

  • I've read 13 Little Blue Envelopes!

    It was fantastic.

  • I hated book reports! I like this idea....

  • My blurb:

It'll have you grabbing your backpack and seizing the day.

  • "A mind bender of a book" is SIX words.

    You said five.

You are a liar, Hank. Way to be.

  • Your vlogs renew my faith in humanity.

Also, question for next question Tuesday: What's the difference between a nerd and a dork?

  • dear EmoKittyLove,

what? if that was an attempt to be funny, it was not. and the same applies to your name. i take it you are in 7th grade? i hope you are because that is the only factor that may justify your terrible sense of humor. any older and you deserve a slap in the face...

  • i think your a heard of boils and plagues

  • do you mean herd?

  • Just posted a video response, but here is the text as well:

"An inspiring and courageous tale of self discovery and madness."

  • i have a questin who the hell can up with the word blurb. i mean really what did some person just randomly throw together letters and say heres a new word

  • Isn't that basically how every word is made up? Language is an invention, everything's simply made up. Had blurb not been a new word to you, you would probably not have given it a second thought. For instance, the words "squeak" and "swoon" sound pretty, well, silly too, but they're just like any other words, right?

  • (That post was aimed at EmoKittyLove)

  • MY BLURB :D

"True book that has nothing to do with the cover."

  • MY BLURB-

"An enthralling journey fueled by both submission and curiosity"

  • OMG it's TWO of you guys. Why can't I stop watching these videos!!!!!

  • i have an wierd though.. For the people who watch *Scrubs* Imagen him talking to elliot.. The horror, yust torment for the ears.

  • hahaha blurb!!! i will join the blurbing book club hahaha no seriously it sounds intresting...here is my blurb...: less then 10 letters

"breath" jkjkjk i am amazed u can talk that fast...props!!! lol bye hank!

  • *Thank* you for talking fast. Why waste precious vlogging time with breathing? Keep it moving, keep it moving...next! \o/

  • Oh I read that book before. It was actually a couple years ago...I like it!

And dude, did you just have a lot of sugar or something? You talk really fast!

  • REad Books and Shop your locally owned and operated bookshops

  • You guys talk REALLY fast!! xD

  • Here's my blurb:

"A fairy-tale adventure, brought to you by a run-away aunt."

Hmm. I hope I hyphenated those words correctly. Dx Otherwise I'm over the limit!

(Also, I just bought Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines of Amazon. Can't wait for them to come!)

  • 13 LBE was soo good!

  • Sounds like a good idea =] I'll participate whenever I have enough money to buy the books xD

And the title is awesome, too. I mean, think about it. 13 Little Blue Envelopes...IN YOUR PANTS! Teehee...would they fit?

  • I just got the book yesterday! I had to order it from the bookstore because they didn't have it. The bookstore is starting to get sick of me, I'm sure~

  • and i suppose next you're going to tell me that J.K Rowling is your BFF? haha. i wish i was an author, then i'd have all the connections. haha. you should tell Scott to make it a double trilogy. DFTBA! (psh, as if you would).

  • I blurb the brilliant MJ's 13 Little Blue Envelopes:

Adventure with purple & green backpack and the odd be-kilted love-muffin!

  • Despite repeatedly misspelling Leicester Square it's a damn fine read.

  • u got maus that book is awesome

  • I would so love to have a converstion with these guys.

    woah

  • The harry potter section on scholastic (I'm not sure if americans have this, but it's a publishing company) and it asks you to sum up any of the harry potter books in 7 words or less ^_^

  • Soooooo....yeah. I totally read that book in one day. Well...half..a..day actually buuuuutt.....that's besides the point! When are we supposed to do our blurb?

    *JessicA*

  • Good idea, college takes too much time; especially when I am reading other textbooks and novels everyday for class.

  • Neuromancer is my favorite novel.

  • 13 Little Blue Envelopes is great! And so is Girl At Sea and Devilish. (Maureen Johnson is one of my favorite authors) :D

  • You couldn't BE more wrong about that!

  • I've been reading 13 Little Blue Envelopes today. Because I got it in the mail this afternoon!!! I love it. Can't wait to finish it and tell you my blurb.
