The difference between a 420 and a 470 is the sail area. The 420 is the boat that you learn to sail in and the 470 is an olympic class. After you can sail a 420 very well, you can move up to the more "touchy" and higher powered rig of the 470. The hulls are also slightly different.

Just got a used 470 that was kind of burned out but still sail-able and can not wait to get this boat on the water. Need some clues on rigging as I have never had a boat this sophisticated. I had the the best memorries sailing the 470 than my father got an old man and sold it for $800 and later bought the SYREN arrrrrrrrrr.
