In 1842 Official Chinese updated territorial book clearly states far-east of china is up to Cock-Cage-City(鶏籠城) Taiwan. The Senkaku Islands did not belong to anybody. 1895 Japanese Government put it in according to international law. What China is demanding is nonsensical and goes against all conventions of the internationally acceptable practices. @architactless Dude, wikipedia is not a reliable source of information. Learn to extract RELIABLE information from RELIABLE source. Anyone can go and rewrite whatever is written on wikipedia. But that island definitely belongs to Taiwan. Trust me, there were even ancient Japanese writing that clearly stated so.

@otterboxiphone Wikipedia can be sporadic in its quality but its page on Senkaku Island Dispute is neutral,more impt offer a wealth of information for the timeline & bibliography which are not in dispute by either party. It's perplexing to see Japanese posters pounce on little scraps of newspapers here, a bit of map there to make their case as if they are enough to determine matters of national sovereignty!

Ok, this commenting space is too small on discuss on any subjest, but let me state 2 things to answer your arguments.
1,) Many evidences on Wikipedia are pointing the fact that Senkakus have been part of Japan (Okinawa to be exact,) it looks to me and to Mr. otterboxiphone, and most likely to any 3rd-party reader.
2,) The Japanese Coast Guard arrsted the crew of the Chinese fishing boat because they attacked and hit the Japanese ship. It`s a simple arrest for an assault.

Not that Japan recognizes Legal Agreements they signed, especially this VIOLATION of 1997Fisheries Agreement to arrest Chinese Fisherman & trying to set precedent of Japanese Jurisdiction over Disputed Terr. That is Thug Behavior. Poor Jpnse Navy Patrol Ship 1300 tns!Chinese Trawler 130 tns! Jpn SANK Tw Fishing Boats in recent past!

@jlsd3dzi5 You say many "evidences" but all I see are bits from 1950s newspapers or scraps of maps by obscure publishers & the most ridiculous, a 1920 Letter of Thanks, when of course Diaoyu was ALREADY ANNEXED by Japan. Sorry, these are all USELESS as legal documents. Today, I can pay some Japanese publisher to print some maps with Diaoyu Islands written on it, tomorrow, presto! Japan acknowledges islands are China's! This is WHY TREATIES, GOVT.STATEMENTS,OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION MATTER UNDER LAW

Yes, those maps and the newspaper published under the strict Chinese government`s controll definately show the inconsistency of what Chinese have claimed.
Before 1970s, Chinese had not claimed Senkakus to be your teritory, and Japanese (and Okinawa occupied by USA) has always governed them since 1895 to today.
We have never used any military force since the end of the WWII, but the PR of China has been the one who attacked India, Vietnam, Russia and more for the territories.

@jlsd3dzi5 Japan says it has the video of the 130 ton Chinese Fishing Boat attacking two 1300 tons Super Equipped Japanese Navy Patrol Ships, but we are all waiting & waiting & waiting to see this "damning evidence" of Kamikaze Chinese Fishermen. We only have Japanese word for it, Chinese Fishermen said they were CHASED & the 1300 ton Japanese Ship hit them. Japanese Court FAILED to indict based on this so-call video "evidence" which is yet to be seen. In 2008, Jpn Patrol rammed & sank Tw Boat!

Yup, we the good Japanese people have been waiting for the government release the video too.
Talking about the Taiwanese boat, we already appologized and paid the compensation for that, because we admit it was an accident by our fault.
However, it was not the case for the Chinese boat of the last month.

Unfortunately, it`s under the sea and that was the big deal of the accident. We sank the leisure fishing boat by our mistake but quickly saved all 16 people onboard. Afterwards, we brought apologizing letters personally and paid all of them the compasations including 10,000,000元 to the captain alone

There are 3 options - More Tension leading to Future Conflict, Less Tension leading to Future Peaceful Co-Existence or Status Quo. I'll be glad to just get back to Status Quo, if Less Tension is not possible.

Let me make it clear that I am not enough of a historian to discuss the past, though. I am not that irresponsible to show off my half baked knowledge like those 2 on this video. I have always wanted some gatherings of historians from many countris around the world to clear up the history and get a consensus. I don`t know if those`d be peacefull meetings, but that`d help us.

There are A LOT of them. If they wnat to stir up hatred, they are doing a success because non-China hating Japanese are NOT speaking out, but arguing along with them. When you see Youtube Jpn Rightwing attacking Korean Pri Sch, it is shocking because in China, decent Chinese will go & stop harassment.

Yes, I`ve seen some moronic seemingly-Japanese on the internet. Then again I`ve seen some seemingly-Chinese posters calling "jap" and "dropping another bomb" and such.
So, I say we are even on that.
The reason I ignore them is they would not listen to anybody, especially in the cyberspace that you cannot assure who you are talking to.
I stop anybody when I see any racism activities or anything injustice going on in the real life.

The so-called "Protest" they performed at the anti-China march on Oct 16th 2010 was STAGED.
If you closely watch the video that captured these two men trying to sabotage the march, you can see two suspicious guys besides them. As this Tsuneno guy mentioned on another video, the guy in the white shirt and another who were holding a camera and taking pictures quickly were on theirs side.
Ovbiously they failed to turn it to "a violent march"
