Spoonbill Catfish were once endangered but are making a comeback. Spoonbill catfish or paddlefish may have been around for at least 300 million years. in Oklahoma they are legal to keep and in Texas the same fish are protected. As a matter of fact, the TPWD is now stocking thousands of young paddlefish in the Neches, Trinity and Sabine rivers.
@AustinLaFon who said the are endangered? Do some homework bud. They are regulated and watched, oh, ic you found out by the reply below. Try going spoonbilling sometime, its awesome.
i believe your wrong about that. they are not endangered. our lake is full of them and they are legal to catch. it is on grand lake in oklahoma. rustin pritchard pritchards guide service 918 964 0174
yeah i have not herd anything bout them being protected i live in kentucky and fish the kentucky river we have caught a 60 pound and 80 pound spoonbill catfish really nice catchs i have pics
I have heard that they are a part of the catfish family. I live in Oklahoma and I snag for these spoonbill or paddlefish (I call them spoonbill) My brother caught one that did not have a bill....That was a cool experience even have pictures! Looked lik a shark with no teeth!
They aren't endangered in Oklahoma you goof. They are abundant. They are plankton feeders and they don't hit lures or bait so they are accidentally hooked while purposely snagging for them. If they were endangered, snagging anywhere they exist in Oklahoma would be illegal. Get your facts straight. These fish are abundant and they are not easily caught. You should try it some time for the fight and learn that these fish are a managable resource. Quit being a pussy.
wow... sorry i leve in nebraska and i saw a vid that said they r endangered dont b mad at me just thought that and i fish but not this so no need 4 the comment
free at certian check ins for the eggs and the they sell as caviar for the fish and game...but very abundent at a good flowing river like low water sometime about 1of 3 casts and you have to snag them....is fun
