Common starfish (Asterias rubens)

Hello..can we say:

The bigger a seastar is,the oler he is??Or if he has only 2 Legs like the one here (poor guy!) these are old because they have many fights an also many Times of survining under bad conditions???

Or its the coulor of there skin..some are darker..or are having wounds..

they are all dying right? i heard that if starfish come up to the shore, that means they are about to die

Omg one of the starfish only has 2 arms

We collected them up into this cluster so we could photo and video them. I think some had lost their arms from elements such as wave action, etc. Perhaps predators as well. Who knows? Not all starfish grow up 100% successfully! not the one-armed examples - they must've had it tough! they can resort to cannibalism as well, like crustaceans.

awesome sight.  can you give any background to why they are in this cluster and also why so many of them have lost their arms?
