Hikosaemon, can you do a brother a favor? Turn down the music. I find it really hard to absorb what you're saying with the tune that loud, though I'm trying because it sounds like you've got useful info.
Mate, this vid actually was a bit of a disaster on the sound, I fully admit, and I went and remixed the sound and reuploaded this vid exactly like you asked for (with the sound turned down) on my HikoTalk channel. You can click on the annotation around my logo on the vid to go there, or just click on the link in the sidebar. Thanks for watching and sorry about the terrible sound!
I asked some Japanese people why they wore masks, despite being healthy and a few said that it was to keep the face moist, but above all, to keep the breathing air humid. Instead of a humidifier I use a set of plants. It prevents over-humidifying and mold. Keep healthy.
Thanks for the Video...Again, It is encouraging to see your videos because I am determined to learn. I got lost today in Tokyo. My job requires me to drive, and I got off the work exit of the expressway in Tokyo, it was adventures experience. The first couple hours it was fun because I love Japan and seeing new locations was great but the third hour I was getting pissed. So...Japanese is a must. I came home and must have studied four hours. LOL!!
Here's a thought - if YouTube is going to disable audio on videos and introduce this "Audioswap" feature, why not let us replace the soundtracks of our own videos??? If they delete sound for copyright issues, the author can just either use licensed music, or take the background music right out. I could upload then upload the improved sound on the version on my Hikotalk channel to here... I might email YouTube....
Thanks for the great vids; the captions are very helpful.
However, listening to this vid, the background music overpowers your voice to such a degree that it unfortunately means it's difficult to focus on what you have to say (which I'm sure is the important part!).
Your own voice mic level must go up or the background music track level down. I'm not nitpicking, your vids are mostly about language so it's even more important that the listener has no trouble hearing your voice.
Hey Globetrotter - that's a fair point. I actually reuploaded this with the sound adjusted and a few other things tweaked on my beta channel. If you play the video now, click on the annotation link on the "HikoTube" onscreen graphic on the top right of the video and you will be transported to a much easier to hear version of the video.
Sorry about that - I'll definitely take more care to watch this in future! Thanks for watching.
ahh, good tip on the humidifier! I couldn't figure out why my throat was getting dry whenever I wake up. I just thought that it was a Tokyo thing. thanx man!
i had to fill my bathroom sink with hot water adn leave the door open cause i had it really bad and i thought thinking I'm canadien that i would be fine cause its not near as cold like back home
I'm looking forward to the Tokyo meet-up, and I really appreciate you taking time out of your very hectic schedule to show the inaka boy around the big T. :)
Thanks as well for the links - I'm off to watch a bunch of vids...
Nono, I agree - and while the HD looks great, the normal looks so bad, I wanted to do a comparison with the old way I used to encode videos so check out my Hikotalk channel for a remixed version of this vid with less intrusive sound and what I think is slightly cleaner, if smaller quality for people who can't watch in HD.
I just mentioned this to MisterNES up above, but gargling at every opportunity as well - I was skeptical at first, but it really helps. I run and play rugby in winter, so definitely, its good to take care.
the humidity here is around 80 throughout the year. i was in japan during winter before and found the dry air better for me. i normally suffer from all kinds of sinus congestion and what not when the air is moist.
I'm from exactly the same kind of climate and found the same sort of thing at first. It took me a while to get my head around dryness being anything other than good, but apparently what happens is whenever humidity drops below 30%, as it does for weeks on end sometimes in winter in Tokyo, influenza skyrockets just because it is so easy for the germs to get around in all the dust and dried noses and throats people have. That said, I hardly get any allergies in Tokyo, unlike NZ...
Yeah, throat kills me on the way to work in winter. I hafta ride my bike, so I basically have to suffer through about 20 minutes of cold dry air, which means lots of coughing. Ugh, can't wait to move to a place with more trains and such.
Anyway, informative video. I really want a Xacti. ANd yeah, JetDaisuke makes some pretty interesting vids.
Actually, if you ever get the inclination, I did tag you ages ago to do a 51things vid...
On the exercise thing, one thing my wife makes me do is wash my hands and gargle water whenever I go out and come back in. I didn't think much of it at first, but gargling basically every time I wash my hands seems to have benefits for my throat, which I always used to get trouble with.
Wow, i got a load of sorethroats and an odd nosebleed this winter i japan, makes sense now, the house actually had a humidifier but i never thought to use it! cheers
Hehe, I used to find especially in the morning that my throat would be awful in winter - partly because of my bad habit of sleeping with my mouth open. I can tell you that the humidifier almost stopped that completely. I see that you're from a "damp" country like myself, so it takes a bit longer than other people for us to figure out that dampness can actually be a "good" thing ;)
DUE...thanks for the shout out and congrats :) You be da man!!!!
btw...I always sleep with a humidifier...I do get sick often though...I suppose that's mostly do to the fact that I'm a teacher.....and am surrounded by ankle-biters all day...sick ones!!! :) hehe
Again....THANK YOU SIR!
I also agree..I think KansaiPJ will soon be welcomed to the partner fold!
Not at all man, you deserve it. Yep, that's another good point, the fact it is so easy to get sick being close to other people. In open plan offices, you could watch colds and flu sweeping the office like waves over a number of days...
And with PJ as well, out of all the YT vloggers I watch, I think he has a pretty unimpeachable case for becoming one if he chose to - now you have autoplay! ;)
What do you mean by "partner" though? I'm totally outta the loop with anything to do with YT haha.
I actually haven't gotten sick at all since I got here (which is odd cause I'm sick all the time in Canada). But maybe the humidity might be playing a part in why my ear is still mashed up.
Ahh, to be a partner basically means that YouTube gives you the option to have autoplay on your page, to add more banners and customization, and have the choice to monetize your vids and earn money off them. In exchange for that, you follow the rules and post regular vids. You can apply for it, or be invited, and they decide if you meet their "partner criteria". Looking forward to catching up sometime soon, man.
I completely agree with you about YouTube concentrating on making the videos looking good no matter how you view them. I hope that they correct some of the issues for the HD feature.
Thanks for the comment! Yep, it is frustrating, especially with the extra trouble that I and others go to in order to get the vids into HD. It seems that the downscaling of the uploaded vids is degrading them a lot, which defeats the point of all that effort to make them look better. The HD is improving - I've found for now that by uploading in WMV 720P, it takes ages to be detected as HD, but I don't get any of the quality issues I had with H.264 format.
dude i know a little Japanese and i can usual catch phrases and word in there when you talk hehehehehehe

Humidifier, eh? I am sick, but I was blaming playing myself to death in a basketball game on the day I caught the cold. I'll try the humidifier.

Johnny, mate, thanks for the comment. Hehe, I had the same thing with lips - I totally use Omi Bros lip wax all the time now.
With the masks, that's a good question - there are three reasons people generally wear them:
1) They have a cold and don't want to give it to other people, so it is like holding your hand over your mouth
2) People with hayfever wear them in spring to filter out pollen
3) They are robbing a bank
So basically both, but more (1) in winter and (2) in spring.
