This was in a rat (Long Evans) in the doral lateral striatum. When awake. he was quietly sitting on a stool, sometimes he went to sleep. I noticed that the bursts happened more often during sleep. There were no external stimuli save for me in the room. We have been able to record (from a cockroach) cells almost as big as this. Check out our backyardbrains website for an example.
Thanks for posting. These are recordings from the tips of four very thin wires twisted together and lowered into the brain. The graph is showing the voltage that a neuron in the brain gives off when it sends a "spike" to another neuron. We can record many neurons from the 4 wires. This example was nice as one of the neurons was very large (I presume that the wire was sitting right next to the cell)
You must've been right on top of it!

What species is this on, and what brain area, was it the corpus striatum?
Nice response, was this spontaneous or under a stimulus?

If it isn't too hard to explain to a Lay person, what is that graph showing? Did you somehow connect an impulse sensor to an individual neuron?

I laughed... I cried... The action was almost electrical.

Awesome. How much did that spike cost?

Not including time, sweat, blood, love, and tears? Around $25,000....
