  • Goosebumps brilliant! you can tell real class when you hear it 20 years later and it still blows you away.

  • I don't care about the particulars, but i love this song. GREAT MEMORY!!

  • why did this masterpiece only get to number 69 in the uk charts :S

  • Great singing. I like the singer.

  • I like this video. The music so cool.

  • Great music.

  • well..they did go through their "glamor rock" stage haha

  • ah thats what happened to Ted Nugent !!

  • I've always loved this song. Thanks for posting :)

  • so weak by 2011 standards... LOL

  • LOOOOOVE THE SOUND OF HALL & OATES!

  • I love fake live performance videos of the 80s. They don't even bother with guitar cables going nowhere. Just a bunch of instruments not plugged into anything.

  • This has got to be my favourite Hall and Oats song. It's amazing :)

  • I just love hall and oates. They are the laof the great musician of there era.

  • this is the last really good song by these two

  • so close so good

  • This song is one of the reasons Hall and Oates ruled the air waves!

  • Hall'n'Ass !

  • i love this song talaga!!!

    Philippines love Hall&Oates...

  • I love Hall & Oates with their amazing harmonies that are at once raw and yet smooth, and the lyrics of many of their songs, like this one, are so emotional and moving. You can feel yourself in the place of the people described in these lyrics....trying to live out their love and feeling it not quite there. This is superb.

  • Thank you for sharing for a good music.

  • This video is great.

  • Good music

  • It amazes me that his voice is so good live-some of these artists are terrible live, and he sounds just as good. That's real talent. Not to mention, he's pretty hot lol

  • Lol he had to move the hair out of his eyes so many times... That's why I like Daryl's earlier 80's hair cut and prefer short haired guys! I've mistaken Daryl for a girl 2 times since I've been a fan because of his long hair! Here's what I go by: Haircuts are benefical to life itself! Anyway love the song and band!

  • That short bastard Ron Jeremy Rocks!

  • One of my fave Hall & Oates songs. They're so amazingly good!!

  • Excelent video!

  • haha he must have swept the hair out of his face 20 times :) - he needs a wind machine

  • haha he must have swept the hair out of his face 10 times :)

  • Boogie's facebook.

  • @Trevnyah stalking like pros at least 4 of us :P.

  • hahaha this is so playback

  • S U C K S !!!

  • @wagsouza so do u nigger

  • Bon Jovi produced this track.

  • i think jon bon jovi co wrote it with daryl hall

  • FUCK I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Dude, the hair is bugging you; put it in a low, loose ponytail; that would look VERy sexy.

  • BAD hair, Daryl. BAD, BAD hair! AMAZING song. Touching, sad, depressing...but a little hopeful. Cautiously optimistic.

  • Whoever asked "who is Daryl Hall" should be flogged in public naked. lol .... just kidding but COME ON!

  • @nemi773 LMAO

  • he looks so small, i feel good,, im small

  • George Green wrote the lyrics to this song, a well as many brilliant lyrics for Mellencamp, Vanessa Williams, Oak Ridge Boys, Barbara Streisand, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band...etc. He is an amazing, talented man. I love you Dad!!

  • Damn, I forgot how great these guys were to listen to. It really takes me back to carefree days of being a kid.

  • this is a realy great song!!!!!!! :) +)

  • Who is Daryl Hall ?

  • @primoknoxville What is the world coming to when people say"Who is Daryl Hall?" WOW

  • @primoknoxville Is this a fucking joke?!

  • @primoknoxville Well, he is the pretty guy with no mustache, that tells something, eh?

  • Um he might want to sing closer to the mic to pass this off as a live recording!! The irony. I'm embarrassed for him. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

  • @wookie37 He's made millions while you're commenting on youtube... who should be embarrassed for whom?

  • @dbcoll1957

You know nothing about me. I'm just saying this is ridiculously lip-synched. Not attacking you personally so why are you me?

  • Wow! That's quite a change in hair. Looks good. Johnny looks his same cute self

  • he's still sexy!!! and VERY TALENTED

  • countless great songs

  • One of their best songs it should be as well known as the others!!

  • THEY are awesome in concert!!!!!

  • Considered as "80's soul" gender. 1989 ( I think so) ?

  • hall is stoned out of his mind

  • @dougzick

Stoned as he may be and he looks wasted , still didn't miss a note.

  • I love how the arrangement is so stripped-down. It's nothing more than two guitars, organ, bass and drums, plus harmony vocals. Gives it a really raw sound that contrasts well with the synth overload of the 80's.

  • @sbrushfan Absolutely! Check out the series online, "LiveFromDaryl'sHouse", available at LFDH.com for more outstanding basic beautiful music, organic and sweet from Daryl's studio at home. Episode #30 especially great; tribute to their great bassist T- Bone Wolk who died last year from a heart attack. Also the show with Todd Rundgren was awesome. Blue-eyed soul at it's finest!

  • I saw them and T-bone Wolk perform!!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • I thought I heard that Jon Bon Jovi contributed somehow to this song. Anyone know if that is true?

  • Comment removed

  • @ny4000 He produced the album.

  • @ny4000

Yes, the song was co-written and co-produced by Jon Bon Jovi.

  • @derekmok I'm surprised, since he doesn't have that kind of talent, IMO.

  • @NYtoTX

Jon Bon Jovi is a pretty decent songwriter, and he actually has a chordal sensibility influenced by The Beatles -- listen to "Born to Be My Baby" or the use of minors and majors in "Blaze of Glory". It's just hard to take him seriously with his overwrought Jersey Boy singing.

  • @derekmok Ecactly...the Jersey fluff

  • Comment removed

  • @ny4000 He produced the album and I always heard he co-wrote this song.

  • @ny4000 Yeah, he produced it.

  • @ny4000 It's true, the original son was a more mellow acoustic number and Jon and Danny Kortchmar produced this version. The verses are a little different from the original but I don't know if he a a hand in the slight re-write, but it's his production. He gave the track balls and it was Hall & Oates last Top 40 hit, getting to #11 in 1990.

  • @umcouldbe Thanks for the info! I agree that it's a great song! :)

  • @ny4000 yes it is true John did write this for them i remeber a interview they did back when this was pouplar

  • @ny4000 yea there was something about the record company wanting h&o and bon jovi to do it, this was bon jovi's version, it's like their remix of it. i don't really like it, and i read that daryl didn't either. their slowed down version is much much better, in my opinion at least. it captures the essence of the song and brings out the mood

  • @ny4000 Bon Jovi produced this particular version of the song. There is another studio version that Hall and Oates produced, but the Bon Jovi version was the recording that aired on the radio most frequently.

  • @ny4000 the songs sucks, so he probebly wrote it!!!! :))

  • @ny4000 He was one of the producers.

  • @ny4000 He co-produced the song

  • @ny4000 Yes, he co-wrote it with Danny Kortchmar. They co-produced it for Hall & Oates too.

  • So close.. but so far a way.. Kinda says it all.. love this one!

  • its the rocking midget!!

  • Favorite!

  • Brilliant!

  • this is the best ive ever seen daryls hair!

  • Loved this song from day one! Give these guys this, they did it their way and never cared who liked them or their music, well.. I always did. Seen them open in 80' for ELO they killed them ..hope to see them soon in Michigan

  • This has to be on the top 5 list of the best of Hall and Oates. I cant believe all of the searches I did on best of H & O and this song wasnt even on their top 10 or 20!! Idiots.

  • ダリル・ホールとメリル・ストリープ、くりそつ

  • Oh wow. Haven't heard this in forever. Love it :)

  • i totally dig daryl with long hair!

  • These guys are great.

  • Love this song . Brings back so many memories !

  • didn't like this H&O era..

  • 2:15: Magical invisible cymbal hit. Haha, great song!

  • @Danger555 He hits the bottom of the cymbal...

  • @MutsuHanma

I do not see that. The sound is a crash hit, and he's clearly on the high hat at 2:15, which does not make the same sound the crash does.

  • @Danger555

You are so right. This is one of the worst mimed drumming performances I've ever seen, and there have been many, many bad ones before and since,,,

  • Somebody get Hall on the phone and tell him to cut that hair. He's playing with it more than his guitar.

  • Beautiful song and voice but gay hairstyle..LOL

  • sweet...

  • can i just say that is a massive electric/ acoustic guitar!!!!

  • whoah john was short i love halll and oates

  • my love for oates is so close to my heart. too bad he is so far away :(

  • good song but its lip sinking, did you upload the song cause the sound quality wasn't good? why cant i find a version of them playing this live that isn't the acoustic version, this rock version is much better.

  • At the risk of sounding stupid here...Has T-Bone passed away?? And when?? I saw him on LFDH last month. This can't be right peeps...

  • That's alright, you don't sound stupid. I feel more stupid. I've been listening to Hall and Oates since 1974, and I didn't even know there was a T-Bone until the posts here, and sorry, I don't know who he was. I read that he passed away from a heart attack in Feb (28th.)

  • T-Bone Wolk began as H& O's bass player in 1981.

He soon became sort of the 3rd wheel, co-producing their music and by the mid-80s he was their bandleader.

He played every instrument well, and was a big reason H&O stayed together all these years. If you saw them live in the past 20+ years, odds are he played an amazing guitar, accordian or mandolin solo for you. After which Daryl would scream, "T-BOOOONE!"

    R.I.P. T-Bone.

  • Sad to say it's true he passed on Feb 28. He just had finished a session with Daryl. Daryl and John are both heart broken about it. Daryl says he was the ampersand in Hall & Oates. He will be greatly missed He was 58

  • This song really hits it, the problem that many of us face in our relationships. A soulful interpretation of a universal problem.

  • Saw him on Daryls House tour.T Bone was just so cool.RIP

  • RIP T-Bone ...you're a huge reason why I love Hall and Oates since my childhood....you were always just as important and I know Hall and Oates would agree

Thank You for sharing your gifts with the world

  • These 2 are music legends. If not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they definitely should be. The soulful vocals are just amazing. I have great memories of all their songs including my favorite Kiss on my List and this one!

  • @rognvabeach

Hey -- U on facebook? Let;'s start a H&O hall of fame petition!

  • Comment removed

  • ooh.daryl, this still makes me cry..i luv ya

  • I didn't realize Oates was so freakin' short.

  • I didn't realize Hall was so freakin' tall.

  • oh yes the more casual grunge look ...

I like it when bands dress up in suits

    now to be different... LOL...

  • "what year did this come out?"

    IIRC, it was 1994....

  • Love this song... wasn't paying attention when it first came out, but I remember playing it over and over on a compilation album until my CD player had enough of it :)

  • what year did this come out? i forget, i was in a blur then............

  • @Snagz1971 This song came out in 1990, not 1994.

  • Thanks for posting the video. This group is part of music history

  • Just about every music video made by anyone is lip synced. Who cares?

  • Jon Bon Jovi produced this album! That's right! Bon Jovi himself produced this album! Check it out!

  • nope. Jon Bon Jovi produced this SONG. More specifically, he produced this VERSION of this song.

  • Nope! He was given producer credit for the whole album! I owned the album this is why I know this!

  • Look again, dude. He produced just this one track. Album production credit is given to T-Bone, Daryl and John. Four specific tracks were produced by different people: SO CLOSE by Bon Jovi and Danny Korichmar, GIVE IT UP by Ric Wake, DONT HOLD BACK YOUR LOVE by Dave Tyson and HEAVY RAIN by Daryl and Dave Stewart..... because those were the tracks either not written by Hall and Oates or because Clive Davis demanded it.

  • they have so many good songs in the 80's ....thank u for posting this vid =) *thanks*

  • This song is just like my relationship with a girl in high school back in 1982. She liked me - I liked her but we never hooked up. I think about her alot almost 30 years later when I hear this song.

  • Wish they would come out with some new stuff for us avid fans.

  • They came out with an album about 5 or 6 years ago or something like that......s'about it.

  • This was Hall & Oats more Rock sounding song. Thier former sound was more soul with a hint of POP. Even Daryll was sporting Hair Metal locks LOL!

  • Daryl Hall is such a great soulful singer.

  • @vcantr000 Agreed.

  • In a way, this video describes how I feel right now. Not necessarily "right at this moment," but at this point in my life.

  • This song came out when I was in the divorcing my first wife. Very sad and hurtful times it takes me right back.

  • When this song came out..I was a dishwasher at Sizzler in Augusta, ME...that's what it makes me think of...great song!

  • Great Track, Quality...!

Turn up the volume to nuclear, lol

  • i like the part of the song that goes "dropped a quarter in the juke-box,not the phone on the wall" Oh yeah,THATS what we did before cell phones!!! lol

  • i know, right? :D

  • Excellent song! Excellent vocals!

    Loved Daryl's hair then, too.

  • they are absolute talent! saw them live a month ago, awesome

  • Great song, starts off fast, slows down and builds up again. They tell a great story.
