  • My friend James died recently at the age of 18, this song was played at his funeral, a great song to describe a great man

  • Timeless and beautiful, the music and the man......

  • I saw and heard him sing this song first on the BBC in 1970 and then went out and bought his "Sweet Baby James" album, and he has been part of my life ever since. His music and his genius will live on long after he is gone.

  • Welcome to the world, Oliver James!!!!

  • this song means alot to my father sang it me all the time when i was little and he forgot all about it and i remembered it at his house this past weekend and played it for him and made him cry hehe :D love this song

  • there are no words for how amazingly brilliant this man is...it just is

  • This man will be awesome until he's gone...just brilliantly awesome

  • conheci ele hj e toh amando eh mto loko

  • this song kills me when I'm away from my baby James!

  • Just talent. Nothing else. Pure talent. Beautiful.

  • I am still trying to figure out how not to tear up when I listen to JT sing and play...Such a beautiful soul.

  • James is the best.

  • Anyone notice the reference to Robert Frost at 1:56?

  • @filthyphillyboy "...and miles to go before I sleep..."

  • @karenina56 "The Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frosting."

  • @filthyphillyboy With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go...

  • @garcemac +1

  • I genuinely think I will cry when James Taylor dies. I may only be seventeen, but his music has touched me in a way that no other artists have. His music has dug me out of some pretty deep holes and I'll be forever grateful to him for that.

  • @JayDeeNinetyThree I am much older than you but will also be very sad should he die before me, his voice has such richness and the words touch the soul. I have seen him perform live a couple of times and am amazed by his talent. For me no other artist can touch him, long may he go on!

  • Amazing. James is the man.

  • If you Don't Like This.. There Is Something Wrong With You...

  • Simplemente un gran intérprete con una maravillosa voz, sus acordes en la guitarra son inconfundibles, James Taylor un grande de todos los tiempos.

  • What a lovely reading of this song. I simply never get tired of it.

  • Try "only one" another great song - Im 66 and he's as good as he ever was and thats fantastic.

  • Damn Sweet.

  • james is the aaron copland of american rock music

  • I have love the guy since I first heard carolina in my mind back in 70. but you can see that time has wrought its sad work, . The artistic temperment still there, still moving, but his voice is fading now, and it is more difficult to hit the higher notes. Just a great and genuine artist, creating his art because he must.

  • I am 19 and definitely agree with you

  • who else is 17 and thinks this is better than 99% of todays music

  • @ikanu11025 Written before the digital era...lol. J.T. puts his heart and soul into all of his work. If u haven't already, check out "Copperline" & "Carolina In My Mind." Good stuff!

  • @ikanu11025 totallyyyy agreed!

  • @ikanu11025 thank you. i dont see how anyone enjoys the crap they play now. this song is beautiful

  • amazing song amazing man

  • Interesting ... When James Taylor was young, singing this song in a half step below ... Db

  • @1948Ringo He plays it both ways. He also played Fire & Rain a half step below a couple times as well.

  • You Got me through the Viet Nam Era and those times. Lost My Wife a few months ago. Get Me through it again.

    Thank You.

    Tem

  • @tembuck2 god will get you through

  • @tembuck2 I just saw this post, and I just want to let you know that right now, at this moment, I'm thinking of you and wishing you strength and healing. And yes, JT can surely help.

  • i love his fingerpicking, its so natural ! effortless....

  • I know everyone has a past..but every time I see one of his videos he just seems to have such a peace inside of himself as he sings.

  • Age hasn't hurt his voice in anyway. Fantastic as always. Never stop James. We all love you.

  • What the hell are you talking about? James is NOT dead.

  • James earlier recordings he always kept his eyes closed, could be a little scared in the early 70's, now they are wide open and smiling, always will love James Taylor and sang this song many many times.

  • It propably has more to do with drugs vs. no drugs.

  • could be both, drugs and fright. the video of the storm sounds like a big cloud burst. You might be snow bound now!!

  • Timeless even!

  • Timless

  • He sounds the same as he did in 1970, amazing.

  • He's hot. Period. Paragraph. End of story. ( However, it's his music that is most important.) :)

  • this is real music

  • fantastic..

  • Superb. It doesn't get much better than that, does it?

  • agree!

  • Pure, lovely voice; honest poetic lyrics, does it get any better?

    Thanks for this post!

  • raven in the storm is pretty good but you have to listen carefully

  • awsome *

  • He looks better bald.

  • wow his voice is betterrrrrr now

  • OMG..its freaky watching his old vids from 1970 and watching him now bald...he looks dead gorgeos before..cant belive his gone very old....his voice remains stuningly amazing....distinct unique voice!!!

  • He looks better bald.

  • Does anyone know what Mark Whitebook is up to currently ?

Mark was / is J.T.'s Luthier

    Thanks ! !

  • hahahaha he is a bald eagle!!!!

  • Great song, bald eagle maybe... personally i think he resembles a Tyrannosaurus Rex

  • Magnifica version.....

  • I like James Taylor but he looks like a bald eagle.

  • this is even more reason to love him. he is freedom personified.

  • I thought this was great when I first had it on vinyl 36-37 !!? years ago when I was 17-18 but IMHO he's way better now.

Great back then, but legendary now.

  • simply beautiful !!! solo hermoso !!!

  • I'm looking for the video with the Glockenspiel - anyone have it bookmarked??? If so thanks!

  • Yes, def pure class. What a lovely singer.

  • pure class

  • yeah, his voice has changed a bit.. and it' looks like he having a hard time catching the tone..compare it to his early performance during his youth.

  • your right there, he voice has definitely changes. I have been listening to him for like 20 years.. but no doubt, he still has it .. In my humble opinion he is still a legend.

  • It's better now. Definitely more character and tone beats the small loss of range by far.

  • I think you are wrong. His voice has not changed. The venues have changed, the studios are not the same.

But, Sweet Baby James has remained...

  • His voice has definitely aged, however, it is pure genious how he wrote this song to be timeless regardless of how old he is. In other words, it's like wine, it only keeps getting better.

It's almost like he wrote this song to be performed by a mature, aged voice. I love it. James is a legend, and deservedly so.

  • The years have definitely affected his voice, but a lovely performance nonetheless.

  • i love it, iv heard his vocie since i was born, i sware! me feel like im a child agine and i hav no worrys at all

  • The intro was only included when JT sang Sweet Baby James for the second time @ Later with Jools. Tuesday in the live show there was no piano intro.

The intro is called School Song and an original song from Larry Golding, the man who played the piano.

  • Comment removed

  • if you think the piano was amazing you should have heard the intro that has been left off this clip. you should be able to get it on bbc iplayer...

  • I love Jools and James.

He is such an amazing man.
