Thanks for sharing your wonderful piano playing with me and all your fans. This song, A house is not a home, is one of the lovliest in your entire collection.
I have always followed you in youtube and your tutorial. Thank you for making music so accessible for us who are not pros. I appreciate your sense of style. I can feel that you are just not playing music, but you are expressing it with feeling as it is meant to be. I wish i can play like you. I play your version of "ahouse is not a home" over and over. Do you have a CD of all this classics?? i'll buy. i am in Vegas
when ever i play this song, i try and figure out how the hell its possable for me to play it. @.@ Very nice playing, made me wanna go play it again :P Have you ever realized your alot farther ahead then you thought you were. it happens to me ever once in awhile. its like you hear someone else do it, but then think, "Wait a second i can play that...? wow i'm that good." :O Very nice playing, insparational!
haha Sorry for my last post, i'm kinda a new piano player, just started 2yrs ago, and i've mastered many songs. its just surprising to me that i can play them all and know how to in such a short amount of time. i don't mean to brag, was just saying what was on my mind. LIke they kinda say, "The internet can pull out your inner truth." Have Good One.
I might have commented on this a year or so ago, but I always seem to come back to it. By far, the best rendition of this song I've seen. So sweet and full of passion. The last low grace note sends it home perfectly.
Hey 7note.... Do you feel that this keyboard's piano patches feel a little too glassy? Especially the "Supreme Grand", I always would use the "X Supreme" as it is much more softer for jazz.
I'm sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Music is subjective and it's just how I felt. I didn't demean the talent, I just felt that the song performance and the arrangement could have been better.
You really voice chords well and I take it you're mostly self taught, which tells me you have very 'big ears'...seems a rare thing in this day of such mediocre players. Also you exhibit a good bit of taste. It's obvious you've listened to the best and gleaned much from them.
Now why did you have to go and do that? Here I am crying again. Sure feels good though. Can't get enough! Wish I had your talent. At least I've got the heart to appreciate this beautiful song and your interpretation of same. Wow! Thanks!
man i swear if i could play 1/8 as good as u, i would be set for life!!! Your playing has always inspired me to practice harder and strive to learn as much as i can and not give up! Just want to stop by and say thanks for sharing your gifts and talents with all of your fans!
I would like to suggest that, in addition to making your recordings available for purchase, you create a series of tutorials for instruction of aspiring jazz pianists. I would be willing to pay for something like that.
This wasn't overly sentimental at all, the mood reflected the composition perfectly in my opinion. And I agree, it's a beautiful piece. Your dynamic control was superb in this :)
I guess it really depends on what you call jazz. OK, it doesn't swing, but it certainly doesn't take away the jazz in your arrangement. This has all the elements of jazz, except the swing. This is jazz all the way.... smooth jazz, and I love it.
You said in the description this is not a jazz piece per se. I was curious as to what you would consider it, rhythm and blues maybe? but this is by far the best arragement I've ever heard of the song. 5stars
dios87, It is improvised, but it doesn't swing, so I hesitate to call it a jazz style, although that may be as good a name as any. I really don't know what label it best falls under.
wow! you've got huge hands! some of those left hand chords really stretch your fingers. People tell me I have big hands but I'm really struggling with some of these chords!
Wow. I hope to pick up on the piano myself soon and you truly inspired me. I checked out some of your other videos and I'm amazed by your flawless, crisp performances and very fine harmony. I could be wrong, but I believe to hear some influence from Chick Corea in your playing.
This is really beautiful! You must have had a great classical instructor when you started playing piano. You're technique is so good. I've have also noticed in other pieces that the runs or arpeggios you use are always crisp and clean. A good sign of formal training!
Your dynamics are like the ocean tides - so natural and pleasing to my ears. The way you go from abrupt and powerful like at 4:45 to exquisite delicacy at 4:48 is a great example of how to capture your audience.
That keyboard sounds pretty good too. It's always hard to find a keyboard that sounds really good on the higher pitched keys. Is that your favorite keyboard for acoustic piano? Anyway, great post man.
I keep coming back to this video! I think one of the things that makes it so beautiful is your wonderful sense of phrasing and space. I'll have to upload another video myself soon, as I'm now studying jazz and getting better!
Also love the new video of Moanin', complete contrast to this!
Very tender and introspective. It's a great tune and you do right by it. I also checked your D dorian improvisation. I really hope you play live where you live- you'd have an audience.
Yes very beautiful. I've been trying to find this Bill Evans transcription with no luck, anyone have an idea please let me know.
Yes he's playing an RD700sx stage piano, but I believe he is using external software or soft synth for this particular Steinway sound, but the RD has a beautiful Steinway built in as well.
Happy New Chinese Year of the Rat! Are you any closer to being able to print out a transcription of this chef d'oeuvre yet? That will be a great day for us mere dilettante notation readers. Great Expectations. Great expression.
