Food: I buy livestock feed in 50 - 100 lb bags. The grain seed is the same stuff that people eat. I get buckwheat, millet and wheat. You can grind them, or you can sprout them. You can also get other seeds like beans oats and cabbage just for sprouting. Sprouted seeds bought in bulk like this are hard to beat on food value/cost.
Hi. I get used pickle buckets from burger king. They are food grade. They come with lids that seal. And they hold 5 gallons. I have been collecting them for ... oh... the last 10 years or so. Every time I go out, I stop at any BKs I pass and I check to see if they have any buckets.
Thank you for sharing! I store what I will eat. (No canned vegetables and Spam which is pork.) Canned pinto beans and others (low sodium) are good right out of the can. Aunt Penny's at 99 Cents Store and Grocery Outlet I do cook from scratch but will I be able to at that time?Canned salmon (always wild) and sardines instead of tuna (mercury). Two file cabs hold these (garage). Who knows?Ginger root stays fresh inside for months! Agave syrup (low glycemic)very sweet does not sugar like honey will!
A 50lbs bag of rice is what? $26? So 1.9lb per $1. It might not be the best meal in the world, but it beats going hungry. And the containers should keep the moths, mice, water, and other things out of it. Which the bag it comes in might not. If only to counter inflation, you should stock up IMO. The price of housing might be bouncing on the sidewalk, but the price of gas and food is going through the roof.
You are doing the right things to prepare. The big heavy pails, expensive storage equipment are all great but not everyone can carry them or afford them. You can store a year's worth of food the way you are doing it now. If you store for longer periods than 1 year them ypu might consider the mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Take care and best wishes to you and your family.
Don't feel bad about shopping at Wal Mart. If this country would make it easier on American businesses they wouldn't have to move their companies overseas.
I love my sister but she made a comment that really pressed my patiences. Members of my family don't believe a crisis is at hand. So we spoke in details of what is coming she thinks America will never default but added, if a food crisis does happen I know where I'm gonna get my ??? Me of course. Our talks lead to arguments she lives in another world Like Obama and members of congress? I don't know how to deal with this I want to hug her to death? in a good way :( any ideas?
@silentsteve63 i feel ya there steve! i have the same prob wit alot of my close friends and some of my family. we cannot force anyone to believe us or accept what is comming. what we can do is keep spreading the info we come across. we also need to use the internet to our advantage and begin networking with those who are preparing and want to try to come out of this alive! the more we have on board, the better off we are! good luck and stay safe! the big one is comming shortly to the USA!!!
CHURCHES and bibles BURNED and OUTLAWED, THREE years of PEACE then last THREE OF apocalipse, WW3, THE BIG EARTHQUAKE, METEOR hits OCEAN islands disappear, NO FOOD, NO WATER, CHAOS. RICH PEOPLE will CRY as money is seen in the streets LIKE garbage without value, GOLD AND SILVER useless AS NO ONE WILL buy without THE lithium cancer causing microchip. ALL BIBLICAL.
ECONOMY IS JUST the BEGINING, it’s getting HARDER AND HARDER TO BE righteous, God wants us to HUMBLE OURSELFS AND FORGIVE SO WE CAN LEAVE IN THE rapture, satan IS WORKING AT FULL FORCE, the rapture WILL SOON HAPPEN, THEN the NEW world order RULED BY the antichrist, National microchip THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED ALREADY will CAUSE YOU a CANCER DEATH in due time.
it is ok come down im new to this and i have a list of stuff that i need but wait tell it goes on sale dont go broke doing it or over budget buy it on sale we look at sale adds and go buy the 10 of the item that is on sale we do this every week it may take a wail but im getting to hang of it and can see that im saving money and i love going shoping in my own house it is great lol
I would be interested to see the scientific data backing that statement up? I have never heard that before but I would sure love to believe that is true!
there is going to be a lot of hungry people they will not stop until they get what you have. you will not be able to leave food just sitting around you will have to hide it. not in a ovious place i would suggest not hiding it all in the same place.to throw people of maybe go a little hungry yourself guns our fine but will not solve your problem because people will keep coming.these videos never talk about how to hold on to what you have it will be difficult.
dehydrated things like rice, beans, corn, pastas, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, are super cheap and can keep you alive long time. people have no idea how bad things are going to get around 2012. I predict Great depression levels many people starved during that time.
@TheCashistrash i don't think it will wait until 2012, with the flooding in the western states, the tomato, potato and pepper blight here in the eastern states, plus with using corn for biofuel, it will be much sooner that we notice a food shortage in stores. learn how to can food, how to manage a garden, how to raise rabbits, how to hunt for food, how to heat or cool your home with no electricity, learn a valuable trade such as bootlegging, have something worth bartering for, and self defense
I agree with the main message, get started. Research for yourself and get started. Yes, these containers she promotes are not the best, but she will be better situated than people who have nothing stored.
I actually have used very heavy Mylar bags without buckets. My spaces accommodates them better. Look at your space and research what will work.
One last thing. Practice now. Practice making bread from scratch, or easy bean recipes if you are not used to cooking them from scratch. You don't want to wait until you are stressed and hungry to try your first batch of homemade bread or your first pot of beans. Work out the kinks now so that you can do it with no stress later. Start making lists, and just work on a little at a time
Yes, great point. That's one of my next projects. Have done a little of that while camping, and it is surprising how good a meal can be cooked over the fire. We are also stocking up on propane & have a BBQ w/ burner and camp stove that can be used.
A water purification system & storage is another important thing we just got set up.
Also consider stocking up on powdered milk. You can mix it with a bit less water and add a can of evaporated milk, and it tastes much better. You can buy it in bulk at a box store. It's not cheap, but it stores for a long time. you can even add storage time by putting it in the freezer in zip locks. I vacuum seal mine and freeze. Just think if you have beans, rice, flour, milk and some veggies growing out back, that can hold you over for some time.
Great video to help people start taking baby steps. The other thing is to get some seeds. Get them now, you can store them in the freezer and vacuum seal them. Make sure you buy seeds that are not sterile. Research and learn how to save seeds for replanting the next year. Even if you live in an apartment, you can grow a lot of food on a balcony or patio. You can find all kinds of creative and cheap containers.
another tip, i use store brands,on certain things. they tend to be more cost effective. i watch for sales and i buy by the case. use coupons if you can, alot of stores offer double coupons up to 50 cents, buy only the products that you use on a daily basis. forget the fancy cleaners, use bleach, baking soda , vinegar. plain soap and water.budget money and cut out the frivilous things and buy durable goods and food. unclutter your lives and your homes...grab a book and learn to be self sufficent
stop the worrying do not panic you are doing the right thing by storing some food away the big pails are for people with big families if it isjust a mother and a few kids by herself the big pails may save cash now but when / if something dose happen the pails will be to heavy to carry both by car and or by her self She can carry five of those containers that would be about 10 days of food enough to get to grandma house i wish her and every single mom out there the best
@RCvolunteer1978 5 pails of food feed a family for 10 days. So a 5 gallon bucket every other day. If one of those buckets was rice that would be 40 lbs of rice. Common. That would last 2-3 weeks alone!
@RCvolunteer1978 I'm a single man and I store in 5 gal. buckets. But, I have a MULTITUDE of diff. kinds of food storage. My fav. is Mountain House Freeze Dried foods in #10 cans. While it is EXPENSIVE to store this, it lasts for 25 years (some survivalists say it'll store 50), but I'd trust it out to 30 years and expect the same quality of taste, texture and nutrition. But I also store some standard canned goods & MREs for short term emergencies.
@hrdknox2000 hey dude can you give me really good companies that have freeze dried foods and other things? i'm trying to put together foods and matrials so i can help my family survive. also do you what i can do for bugs?
@shannonsurreal oh wow you are talking to be they were old super Large tupperwere containers for large families they were made in the late1960s
We have had fiveof those large water tight double the wide of the reg. bakery buckets that The surivial companies sales But i now only have one of those containers the others went the other kids of the family they held six gallons of gain, sugar, flour, whatever
I have not seen tupperwere containers that big since the 1980s
lets see those are 2bucks each a bucket is 5 bucks, you can fit 5 of those gallon containers on 1 5 gal bucket so my math says 2 X 5 = 10 bucks to do it your way.

Those containers are NOT air tight!!!
Forget them! Bugs will get in!
She doesn't know what she is talking about.
Get food grade 5 gal buckets, spend the 7 bucks! Use mylar bags and O2 absorbers or the cheaper choice dry ice.
#1. Sam's has 5 gal water for $4 #2 buy 300 lbs. of rice @ Sam's for $93. 15.50 for 50 lbs.
#3 Buy in gross. pasta, beans, wheat, & rice.
#4 Then buy #10 cans of fruits and veges. then spices, coffee, honey, etc
