  • Better than walking. The price of fuel and insurance these days you'd be best having a 1.2 litre car

  • a fiver under 6k? lols u can get an e39 m5 or a CL500 for that much...

  • @hamzah510 6k new or 6k 15+ years old.....

  • Amica is Sold as a Hyundai Xing in India and starts at 3,500 pounds

  • wow dosent he sound like hammond, i thought it was him for a second

  • "Top Gear" wannabe.

  • That's a steep hill?? I live in Derry, i drive up hills worse than that on a daily basis

  • @mariaco790 clearly not as steep. They have done their research and I've also been up and down it numbeous times and it us steeeeep.

    roads btw, not farm tracks

    :)

  • Euro cars at their finest.

  • @blackjesuscracker616 The reality to that comment is some 300 horse power american muscle car would not make it up that hill on a wet road with a heavy front and light back plus rear wheel drive

  • =.= they are comparing how those cars react on load and with high rpm revving

    the acceleration and the stability

4x4 or fwd wont make any diff on tarmac road fyi

  • Stupid idea. They are Cars.... not 4x4s!!!

  • this is a bit dodgy because it doesn't really show the true character of hardknott - and how many people are going to have gone bezzing up there thinking it's a nice easy jaumt!! That road needs a little bit of respect!

  • @FelixCulpa81 too true, the drop over the edge is huge

  • This is just so stupid.

  • been to hard knock pass

  • is just so boring compared to top gear

  • The silver Hyundai is known as Sanro in India.. India have the Himalayas. and much much much steeper than your Britain short plateaus.. It can climb and climb and climb.. I drove it.. In ladakh. So no question stupid video.

  • " you can get this car for a fiver" WOW "short of 6K" fuck LOL

  • Unimog

  • ha thou, who says thou on a tv program?!

  • i've done it in a fully loaded vauxhall vivaro !

  • i would buy a used toyota supra for 8500 euros instead of those three pieces of shit.

  • @jimliras313 I bought a nice used 89 Firebird with a 5.7 Liter TPI 350 V8 for $1,500. It kicks all these cars asses with stock 300 HP at 1/4 the cheapest cars price.

  • @NoOdL3z18 well you can always buy a very good car for a bargain...

  • @jimliras313 yeah, only downside I forgot to mention is that the back seats are a bit too small in my car. You can fit a couple teenager sized people back there just fine, but a couple full grown stocky men like in this video might be a bit uncomfortable lol

  • Top Gear is better

  • This isn't even the steepest hill in the country in any case

  • @aidans34 the steepest hill in the world is sky hill in ontario canada

  • @jason123456789210 True, but the steepest hill in the UK is in Porlock I believe

  • Top Gear drove a Discovery up a Scottish mountain, Fifth gear drove a Proton up a cumbrian hill.

  • try Porlock Hill in a 1963 split screen VW. Slow going up and bloody scary coming down.

  • @tilerman I once owned a 1963 split screen also, when going up steep hills i'd say a prayer first and if i was heading into the wind i'd just give up. Miss my camper van C** 266C..but she's still on the road (somewhere in the uk).

  • @SEAWEEDER1 Had to sell mine also. Had twins on the way (at the grand age of 44!) and we needed an extension on the house. My van was mint condition and yes we got a silly amount of money for it and it paid for the extension and a more practical car (berlingo, what was i thinking!) but man i miss that van after having her for 18 years but needs must. I suppose one day we will both get over our loss. The memories........

  • This is stupid man, with 5-6 grand why would you buy any of these cars when you could get something used maybe 2007 for that price with a much more beefy engine like a 1.8 and low mileage, you can get alot for 5-6 grand!

  • @SuicidalLooney Totally agree with you there. There is no point in new cheap cars tbh, they should just drive them round their shitty plastic factory and then sell them for about £500 because compared to other 2nd hand cars you can get for around the same price, they are less appealing than Susan Boyle's hairy gooch.

  • Ive made it up a 32% grade, in the rain, with a passenger in a Fiat 500 no problem.

  • if you have your head screwed on you would walk straight pass any of theese "cheap" heaps of shit and buy a decent 2nd hand car for the money instead, be surprised what £6000 can realy get you theese days 2nd hand.

  • @smugtugboat

So fucking true. I can't believe some people buy crap like that new! I drive a S40 2002 plate that drives like new with it's FSH. guess what I paid? £1300!!!

  • The American fat population makes those fat blokes looks like mice...

  • @braydenmartindale

The American population doesn't need to buy these shitty cars because they stood up to their government and aren't getting taxed into oblivion.

That's the real reason why they drive bigger cars.

  • Steepest road in Britain? The gradient at Beck Hole in North Yorks is 33%

  • passenger looks like he's about to throw

  • We dont need Stig in 5thgear

  • fifth gear clearly has a budget they might be a little bit more sereaus but they dont seem to have alot of money

  • malaysia cars are one of the worst in the market. you call it boleh i call it bullshit

  • @123dodgecharger how so? because i find them quite good for everyday use

  • @jackass1901 Comparing to other cars of course. I do understand its cheap

  • @123dodgecharger its not the cheap factor,Malaysian cars are just Japanese cars with better styling. So its reliable, better looking, and cheaper than Japanese cars because it doesn't have a Japanese car badge on it.If you don't believe me,go to a Proton dealership, buy one and run it for a year then only you comment its good or bad.

  • @jackass1901 thats because most of it are rebadged version of those japanese cars. Like the new Proton Inspira which is the current Mitsubishi Lancer and perodua myvi from daihatsu sirion. most new protons are from older mitsubishi, but with reworked suspension, chasis tuning from Lotus, 'campro' or old engines and most of all flimsy plastic. Although i had to agree the Air-con in the newer proton was quite good

  • Malaysia Boleh!

  • @polterzzzzzzzz

You're correct. Fifth Gear was created by the ex-presenters of Top Gear because the BBC actually ended TG in 2001. After the first season of FG, the BBC brought TG back in a new form. Fifth Gear hasn't ripped anyone off. It's a car program, which is exactly what TG used to be. Now, it's just a bit of light entertainment.

  • 30? in cali weve got like 45 that some of us climp daily!!! lol.

  • @highdeserthater is it a mile long?

  • @Zlaja16 like 50 miles! but most of us dont need to REALLY take all one road. but we need to take the highway sometimes because the cars overheat all of the time. lol

  • A 50cc hatchback beaten by two fat men walking.

  • how can you put a 1 litre engine in a car? you might as well just walk

  • @counterclockwise123 A 1 litre engine in a bike, on the other hand...

  • who wins..??

  • better than walking..... or is it?

  • why do people have to talk shit? I prefer Top Gear but 5th Gear is amazing too. In America we have no shows like this so you assholes need to be thankful for this at all. If you love cars then what's not to love besides if you don't like some of their presenters

  • That is not a hill, that is just a pile of mud. If anyone wanna drive in hilly roads, go to Nepal

  • @authenticalexful no need just go to vale st totterdown bristol its steepest road in england

  • @doh1959 Yah go there... to St. Totterdown Bristol. ; )

  • @authenticalexful went there weekend its so steep at bottom front of car hits road its 1in 2.4

  • @authenticalexful He meant Vale Street, not saint totterdown..... read stuff before taking the piss;)

  • i would like to see that last car try the hills in costa rica.

  • FLAVA FLAVE....YEAH BOYYYYYY

  • entry level midgets????? thats not even sarcasm...

  • Why does this skinny guy, who looks like he's in his 20's or maybe 30's, have a bunch of fat middle aged white haired dudes as his mates?

And on another note, thats not bad, they all actually made it. Back in high school this guy who had an older hyundai accent i think, it couldn't make it up the incline to the auto shop garage with 4 skinny grade 11 students inside...

  • that must be a damn steep hill! i wana take it on :P

  • guys, if you like top gear, GO WATCH TOP GEAR and quit clogging up the entire comments box about how much you think how much of a rip off of top gear this is

  • Top Gear and Fifth Gear are both great shows, but 5th Gear is more of an automotive enthusiast's show. As a North American viewer, I can see Top Gear NA fitting in with the "reality shows", all started by Trading Spaces and Survivor, none of which appeal to me in any way. Even with great hosts, Top Gear is all about scripted drama. I'd rather watch Motorweek on PBS/Speed, and catch the latest 5th Gear online.

  • great road, i been on it! go early in the morning it is empty! :)

  • @hardertom I'd love to try it a night too. Super scary!

  • I have a savvy~

  • Here's an idea. Have a car programme where they show you normal cars that most of us normal people drive. Hey and lets have some mechanical tips as it goes along and why not a bit of motoring know how like how to use the gears to slow the car down and making more use of the handbrake at stops. Maybe some highway code lessons and tips on getting better insurance. How to buy and sell a car.

  • @bottletree33 That's how Top Gear was in the early days

  • did this pass in a stock 1969 vw camper....... Sh!t my pants!

  • This is just good harmless fun. There are so many haters out there.

  • Lol These Fifth Gear twats really don't have any imagination since they stole pretty much everything from Top Gear...

Cheap cars under 10K + Hill climb challenge = straight from Top Gear...

  • FIFTH GEAR BEST BETTER DRIVERS BY FAR

  • @whiskydog777

Because they use boring racing drivers with no sense of humor what so ever!!!

  • i have this problem when i have fat twats in the car

  • Fifth gear has more interesting stuff than top gear. Top gear tests are fun, to see the super car power, but Fifth gear has some very interesting experimentations

  • I think fifth gear came 1st

  • @125conman no

  • @veyronman well the old top gear did but this came be4 the the TG we have now

  • I hope that kitchen clock thing wasn't some lame attempt at being funny!

  • what is the make of the 3rd one?

  • joburg got some steep hills :L i dont know if they the same as san francisco because i have never been there

  • go in the alps !

  • The presenter's Estuary English is quite reminiscent of Dr. Who.

  • That Proton has the coolest dials I've ever seen in an economy car.

  • please, i go up steeper hills everyday to get home here in ct

  • those were easy uphills! why don't they try these cars in downtown san francisco's uphills? those are way steeper.

  • The steepest drivable hills in San Francisco are 31.5%; this is 30%, and much longer.

  • I took a citroen 2CV with three other mates in over the Hardknott pass. It was 1st gear but it did it and was worth it to see the 4x4 drivers faces parked on the highest point. The 2CV was the only car available to hire within a 50 mile radius of where i live due to peek times.

Made me Respect the Citroen 2CV.

    Now i have a Polo G40.

  • The last car is actualy a moped car in the dutch :P And you can drive them with only a moped license

  • same in here

  • ive gone up there faster on my dt and i weigh 14 stone!!!

  • yes

  • @thedean64 no

  • @thedean64

How is this a rip off of Top Gear?

  • @thedean64 well it's redundant when half of todays cars have more than 5 gears LOL

  • @pedekiller

    haha

so occasionally this show is in top gear.

  • @thedean64 Yep... Fifth gear really has nothing special about it... except it has a female presenter than some men find attractive... But then again... some men find Richard Hammond attractive too.

  • @thedean64 actually tiff came from top gear.. But I agree top gear is way better (:

  • @thedean64 It's not a ripoff, fifth gear actually came out because topgear had low rating and they tried to rejuvinate show back in 2001 or 2001 i'm not sure xD. The year this show started, topgear was cancelled for year as far as I know too, but I stand to be corrected

  • @thedean64 No.

  • Been up the Hardknott Pass and its hard as fnuck!

  • 10 mph Speed Limit !

  • That watch on teh dashboard could kill someone in case of a crash (there´s an airbag down there). These people should know better.

  • If fifth gear sucks so much then why are you watching it?? stop bitching and get out

  • im tired of this comment " if it sucks y u watch it?" how can i know it before watching, unless u are a timetraveller and u travel back in time and.... u got it

  • @tipy123 yeah but topgear dont have vicki henderson butler and shes well fit!!!

  • @drpauly999 shes a muppet i hate her she just chats to much shit

  • fifth gear sucks !

  • Why did you watch it then you prick. Don't search for it and then whine about it. Go watch Teletubbies or something you twat.

  • @Fultomt3n the 3 guys at the beginning looked like the teletubbies lol!

  • Yeah, we got a 46% downgrade hill 2 miles from my house, mm-kay? So go shag that little sand castle you call a hill.

  • Considering the "heft" of those 3 gentlemen, those cars should sue for "cruel & unusual punishment"... XD

  • When it comes to hills like that BHP dont mean a damn, it's all about the torque! Infact i wouldnt mind going there giving mine a blast up it. :D

  • Power is simply a function of torque.

  • now i know why they don't have these in america. cause they would get killed!!!

  • Now try the Tata Nano.

Bet'cha my ipod nano gets me there faster.

  • You would be killed on American roads in a car like one these. lol

  • Pppssshhh.... thats a freakin mole hill. Try driving one of those little shits up I-70 in colorado!

  • ? I thought the Hyundai Accent hatchback was there cheapest car.

  • A cheap Hyundai 3-door hatchback (I have one) cost us about 11 grand. It has more hp than any of those shit cars haha

  • That's nice. It's a great price for a great car. I'm sure the quality of the car is also better than it's competitors.

I personally own a 09' Hyundai sonata I got last year. Great car.

  • i think anything has more horse power than these shitboxes! lol

  • maybe you can try saving a bit more and buy something decent. or buy a second hand car

  • Hmm, didnt TopGear do a very similar challenge thingy?

  • yes but it was with older sport cars i think

  • fuck these cars spend a little more and get a civic

  • lol at the end.. XD

  • cont' if a 2 litre petrol engine has a torque of 150 lbs ft, then it would need 3500 rpm before 100 bhp is achieved to the diesel's 2000. This is why diesels take off so quickly in the higher gears without needing to change down. The above petrol would need to go down to 4th, or even 3rd, to keep up with the diesel accellerating in 5th. This is why petrols are given much shorter gearing throughout, to even up the horsepower a little at a given speed.

  • look i love it but wtf man you've just raped out the comments with nothing to do with the vid filling it with more than they used to teach us in a week at tech college

  • In replying to your message, I'm just taking up more space! Perhaps we should both have joint & just chill! lol

  • you're very cleaver, maybe more cleaver people would be even more enlightened if they light up once in a while

  • Thanks bud! Stay cool. : )

  • cont' in other words, if a 2 litre turbodiesel produces a torque peak of 262 lbs/ft @ 2000 rpm, it will be making 100 bhp. If the torque then drops to 131 lbs/ft @ 4000 rpm, it will still be making 100 bhp. Half the torque, twice the revs.

  • Mustang, you are partly right. If two otherwise identical cars have exactly the same gearing & accellerate in the same gear from the same speed & revs, then the one that produces the most torque at that revs will start to accellerate first. Bhp continues to rise after the torque has peaked, only because the engine gains revs at a faster rate than the torque recedes. If revs & torque gained & lost respectively in a uniform manner, then Bhp would remain constant.

  • haha Im looking at bikes that produce more power... cheap wee eco cars are good fun. Just gotta boot it

  • my 125cc bike has like 13hp. Aalmost !! lol

  • if you are in a traffic jam (and that really often happens) your 350hp are really useless ^^ then you're happy with your 60hp cause its economical

  • Americans need lots of displacement to achieve 350hp. in Europe displacement is used to its full potential

  • ok, but the european cars have nowhere near as much torque.

  • torque means nothing.

    torque means work.

power is the amount of work done per unit of time.

    hence, power=work/time

A car with dominating torque figures is a torquey car. A car with dominating power/horsepower figures is a powerful car.

  • torque means nothing? then how come every european is buying a diesel car, using the added torque as the main reason?

it does mean a lot, you're wrong. i realize power is more important, but a car with 500 horsepower and 200 lb/ft of torque won't be as fast as a car with 500 horsepower and 500 lb/ft of torque.

  • the Koenigsegg CCR has 806bhp and 920nm yet this is more powerful than the merc amgs that have 1000nm. torque is only useful for towing things. anyways only one of the cars in this video is from europe. at the end of the day europe make superior cars.

  • i know europe makes superior cars, nobody's going to doubt you there, but i've heard numerous people complain (including some european presenters such as jason plato) about the lack of torque from some euro cars.

my next car will probably be a bmw 335i, and that has 300 lb/ft of torque, more than an m3. but i know that power is more important.

  • Whaaaat???? your getting a German car??? cmon dude... heheh sorry for butting in... but if given the money... id get my self a ZR1... hahaha but that would be too much for my salary... id get a Z06 should my money be sufficient...if not... a 2nd hand Z06...it should be cheaper... hahahha... these are great american cars... my friends would curse me i know but these are just great american cars.... PEace.

  • ... i'm pretty sure there's a substantial difference between the 335i and zr1. try $60,000 worth.

and the z06 isn't in the same league on normal roads as the 335i.

  • quite surprising... your the first american i encountered to admit that... my american friends here would totally say otherwise...

but i guess your taste for cars is better than ours... we are just in it for the speed... Peace...

  • it's the truth, the corvettes are astonishing for their price on a track, but on the road they're very woeful. the interior is a burger-tray (wrapped in leather if you so choose), the ride'll break your back, and the driveline is much too harsh. so is the clutch. so is the gearchange, although i think these were fixed with the introduction of the ls3.

  • Actually coolerdude, you & ryanas are both a little wide of the mark. A 500 bhp car with 200 lbs/ft will be every bit as fast & accellerative as the 500 lbs/ft version.. Provided that the weaker torque version is kept at the max power revs at which it develops 500 bhp. It will only be slower at lower revs than peak power. Bhp is the product of torque & revs. Therefore torque determines the revs at which the engine will develop its max power. Cont..

  • Cont, There is a steam traction engine called Boadicea. She develops 4335 lbs/ft of torque working compound. (exhaust steam from high pressure cylinder driving the larger low pressure cylinder) At 200 rpm, she could therefore make 165 bhp. A 1 litre sportsbike making 80 lbs/ft of torque would need 10850 rpm before 165 bhp is achieved. If the bike engine were geared 54 times lower than the traction engine, it could also pull 140 tons uphill, at 2 mph, but its life expectancy would be in minutes!

  • When Boadicea switches over to simple working (full boiler pressure fed to both high & low pressure cylinders) she generates 11877 lbs/ft, (about 6 times the torque of the most powerful truck tractor units) - at the same 200 rpm, she would then develop 452 bhp. So, as you can see, torque is the real strength of an engine rather than bhp, since no matter how much power it develops, it will be defeated & stalled as soon as the resistance exceeds the maximum torque figure. That's why we need gears!

  • If we were to take ryanas's example of the Koenigsegg CCR, with its 806 bhp & 920 nm, (679 lbs/ft) & attached it direct via a clutch to the stationary crankshaft of Boadicea, then took the car engine to peak power revs, - then despite the car exceeding the bhp of the steam engine by many times, it would require only a whiff of steam through the cylinders for the traction engine to drag the car engine's revs down & stall it in under a second. Now THAT'S muscle!

  • the fuck?

  • @wolfmatha yes because it is more moped than car, and it isnt even cheap, its like 12000 euro's wich is about 9000 i think in pounds
