because everything now is about over-kill marketing, you will never see movies like this ever on the big screen again! matter of fact anything from the 70's like MOONRUNNERS will never see the light of day in todays ipod, iphone, notepad crap infest emo cyber twat world! iam pretty sure megaplex movie theatres will gone in the next 20 years also!
a 2 disc special editon of flash gordon will be a great idea with : audio commentaries thearical trailers tv spots poster art galleries behind the scenes documentaries cast and crew interviews movie production stills concept art flash music video by queen frankie smales
The reason why Star Wars isn't like this Flash Gordon travesty is because George Lucas actually had class and talent. SW was meant to be taken seriously, Flash Gordon was not.
I don't think that's quite what Ross was trying to say. A lot of filmmakers feel that a film adaption should do justice to the original material, and the original Flash Gordon comics and programs were campy, like others of its type. Mike Hodges felt that rather than making the film ultra serious like most films at the time, he would take the time to create something different. It may be campy but lots of moments are commendable.
It's just pure entertainment, fun. This is not the sort of film you can over analyse. When you do a more serious sort of film, Characters like Jar Jar in The Phantom Menace and the Romance scenes in Attack of the clones stick out like sore thumbs. If the whole film is not too serious then you can get away with a lot of stupidity. Unlike when you try to inject this sort of humour into a 30 year old established franchise.
How can you not be uplifted juyst listening to that and the comic strip in the background? Flash Gordon is amazing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us Alex, I admirer your work greatly,Flash Gordon, Queen and A Ross. It feels right :-)

Alex is wrong!! Flash is NOT a Superhero. He's just a man...with a man's courage...nothing but a man, but he can never fail!

Great artist... legendary, in fact. But I don't quite see his enthusiasm about this film. Oh well, as long as he keeps on painting...

Love Alex Ross but still can't sit through the film. It's just too boring.

Come to think of it, alot of stuff seems like alot of things you'd find in comics.
Got a race a people that look like Thanagarians, got a guy that looks like DR.Doom.
Flash Gordans logo looks alot like the Shazam!/Captain Marvel logo.
