In the Vygotsky model the teacher would chaperone the student across the ZPD initially leaving them afterwards with the experience and confidence to attempt the task themselves. Am I wrong?
@ulgubra sounds right to me, The child although knowledgeable on baking cookies would still need help making them as they will be unable to have a sense of time to bake, ingredients and how much, as well as how to construct or mix, a child might simply interpret what he has learned throw a disproportional amount of ingredients in a bowl and throw it in the oven at a random temperature. Assistance from an adult would make the child more of an aid in cooking the cookies. Adult still does more.
