"Ghosts" do not exist. They have never existed. People who love scary stories, however, abound and some people love making lots of money telling stories about scary phenomenon. The desire of some very simple minded people to "get scared" half out of their wits does exist, has always existed and will no doubt continue to exist.

But...WHAT is a "persistent presence?" I think ghosts are more than likely "persistent" fantasies, or dreams of gullible easily fooled people. I have lived in and visited many supposedly haunted historical sites, worked in a funeral home, slept alone there while the place was filled with the dead, even, and never once even felt an inkling of a "persistent presence." I also have no religious belief, nor any history of sleepwalking. I dream very little, and am a natural skeptic. No ghosts.

Watch the documentary, "Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred Leuchter."

The movie is interesting but the interesting part is where he shows a picture of an electric chair in his basement that shows the ghostly image of a man sitting in the chair, attached to it for an execution. This was not visible to him when he took the photograph.

It is unscientific and and uneducated to suggest that widely reported unexplained events, that are described as ghost-like, are superstition. It may not be ghosts, but it is in the interest of science and education to discover exactly what these events are.
