In addition to Elijah, we also need to examine what happened to Enoch:
"Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." (Genesis 5:23-24)
"By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God." (Hebrews 11:5)
I'm not saying that He didn't stop by paradise on His way back up but His 3 days of death were spiritual death in hell, not paradise. It says a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day to God in the spiritual.
This shows that there is no time in the spiritual. He could have gone down then back up straight away. He could of also gone down for 3000 years then come back up.
Just remember, He did go to the rich man's part of hell or He could not have fulfilled the law...
So if He paid the price, that would mean that He would of had to have spiritual death which is hell. Now if Jesus didn't go to hell, then that would mean He didn't pay the price which would mean that we are still under sin and law that the Jews were under. This means that we still have sin upon our shoulders. And this counts out grace 100% which counts out the NT 100%. You see, Jesus had to go to hell for us to come under grace and back into relationship.
@Jameslockhart8 Nobody has gone to Hell yet (read Revelation 20,21,22) All who died went to a holding place called Paradise which was made up of two areas Paradise and Hades. Those in both area can see one another and hear one another even though there is a great gulf fix. So Jesus did die and went into Hades the holding place for those awaiting Hell. There are sins were paid for and He preached that this is the day of redemption. Those in the good side of Paradise heard his message.
@oceantoo1 This is an extremely late comment... Where does it say that Revelation 20-22 are future events? I can show you a lot of evidence that supports Rev 21-22 being past... In fact, there is one scripture that supports Rev 21 being a future tense...
In the bible, it says, through Jesus, we have eternal life, but we still die physically. It also says, the punishment for all sin is death, but when they sinned in OT and NT, they didn't die physically straight away so we can take the punishment to mean spiritual death.
Spiritual life: Heaven
Spiritual death: Hell
It then says that on the cross, He took our sins upon His shoulders and paid the price for them.
When He said "It is Finished" on the cross, it was finished. The New Testament came into effect with the death of the Testator. He just went to gather all the Old Testament Saints and take them to Heaven. Spiritual death is separation from God. We were DEAD in tresspasses and sin before we trusted Christ. Jesus being separated from His Father was Spiritually death for him.
Not quite, the new testament covenant came into effect when He rose again. Jesus said, no man shall see or enter the kingdom of heaven till the Son of Man returns. as apposed to when He leaves.
He also said I will not eat or drink until the kingdom of heaven has come.
It is seen after He rose that He eats and drinks with that the disciples.
He did not get the keys to the kingdom until He went to hell. We did not receive them till He rose...
Steve forgive the lapse of time. Computer problems. Thanks for the mention of my name. I'm humbled. You satisfied my inquiry about paradise and hell. Girl I knew in College died five years ago. Cancer. Was a Religious Science Practicioner. I'll see her BUT she will not be able to join me in Paradise. Educated lady. She made bad choices. So intelligent but never opened a Bible. Perhaps she got saved in chemo therapy treatments. Thanks again Steve. Peace my brother. Vince in Ohio (Toledo)
I'll be glad to answer any questions. Any specific questions?
