My Bandit 1200 didn't come close to this performance, K&N, pipe, and Dynojet Stage 1 with 104 jet, just a dog that dies at 130mph. I bought a ZRX1200R with the same money, and it would kill this bike stone stock. Kawasaki, let the good times roll.
Shifting at 8500 rpm makes it faster because ps and torque are lowering from that revs..... but nice movie. With a open Bos Exhaust the sound makes it complete.
Still pulling. Nice for a stock-ish bike. Probably another 5~10mph speed to come, so safely into the 140s true speed
My early 1200 isn't stock. On that the red line in top (10k on mine) on stock gearing is about 155mph true / 170mph indicated. Most it has managed is 181.8mph through timing lights, but that was with a bit of a tail wind that day (needle was well off the end of the clock). No sign on any speed limiter.
Ever heard of the 2 inch mod? The 1200 has the same airfilter-house as the 600 so it wont get enough air! Open a second hole in the airfilter-house that is 2 inch and it will breath correctly :-) Check for the 2 inch mod on google!!
I recently bought a B-12 after passing my test, god only knows what the owner did to it but i was face down arse up doing 160 on mine the other day and it would have gone a wee bit more but i had to let off, never the less bandits are powerful bikes!
speed limiter? what speed limiter? Bandit never had a limiter, well I had a 2003 which I crashed, and showed 160 on the clock but I know that is not real speed as bike speedos are not as accurate as cars. I've had a merc amg55 "Stalling" at 155 and am going past it..can't be poss as bike is not able to do more than 140..please explain!
i just bought an 03 sb 1200 and the dude had it all screwed up i put everything stock it was mainly the jets and the k&n that he had screwed with and i was wondering if you know what the air/fuel mixer screw is supposed to be at? idle 1,500rpm? how many mpg do you get i am getting around 20-25 :( please help! send me a message if possible!!! thanks!!
@mosesp254339 the bandets from 97 to 2010 if you are careful it gets about 36-38 mpg if you drive it like you stoll it yes it gets about 25 mpg , :) and the rpm should be on 1.000rpm , i had 4 bandit's , i know a few things about them any other questions i can help u out
@mosesp254339 Get your bike to dyno+lamda test and let professionals to adjust or even rejet your carbs. That's the best and porbably expensive solution. 1500rpm idle is ok, but you can use a little lower idle rpm. Adjust it to 1300rpm while engine is warm, if you put it under the starting warm engine comes more difficult. Under 1200 rpm you will have high risk that the camshafts cant get oil properly due to very low oil pressure.
@Mikerlay i have a 98 bandit 1200 and my friend that i go riding with has a 04 fazer 1000 , hes a good rider but every time we race he can't pull away from me , i usully get him from 0-45 but after that were the same , yes the bandit has only 98 hp but for some reason the fazer is no faster , i am also faster then 01 r1 , and 2010 r6 , :)
@740ilPower Man you are correct on everything you just said. I've had three Bandit1200's and they are the best bikes on the rode. Before the last three Bandits I had 13 other bikes so I know alittle about bikes. Bandits are very nice and very fast bikes. The torque is what makes you pull away from other bikes. So unless your on a track all the time there is no reason for riding a track day bike. Its just a fad thats all.
@Mikerlay Hohehehehe. You dont own a bandit 1200, bandit1200's 98,6hp is only paper power. Stock power is about 105-112hp. If stock power is too less, there is lots of ways for tuning to get more power. Better exhaust system (about 14-20hp more, yep stock exhaust sucks), air filter, gsxr oil cooled 750 or 1100 or yoshimura camshafts, big bore kits and better pistons, port cylinder heads, lower 1mm cylinder head, carbs, turbo,
bandit1200 has same engine as old gsxr1100w. Big bored but detuned.
@Bikeman1087 I have a '99 Bandit 1200S. The cheapest/best way to get power out of a stock bike is to go buy pre-engineered kits from Dale Walker's Holeshot Performance. Starting with his stepped header, the stage 2 jet/filters, and the 5 degree ignition advancer, you're good for close to 120 hp ($1050). That's what I did for mine and it's night and day. Add the 1216cc pistons, GSXR intake cam, and the special port job and you've got 150 hp. Buy a good used Bandit ($2000) and it's an amazing deal

@beeroosterm I already have a Bandit1200S '01. Bought as used 2 years ago, Im still happy with it. The only mods for engine I know are exhaust, k&n filter, rejetted carbs. But I believe there might be more mods because my bandit kicked almost 133hp, 113nm on dyno. If I didnt own a bandit myself I would not say anything to mikerlay or anyone about bandits.
@Bikeman1087 It sounds like it might have the GSXR intake cam mod as well, for I cannot think of anything that would boost hp that high without additional displacement given your list of mods. Mine runs like a top and I was considering the 1216cc kit with cam and porting, but these are an extra $1500 plus the camshaft oiler mod. And I don't think I want 150 hp at this point; 120 hp is fine. I'm tired of listening to the exhaust, though...
Mines a 2000 with GSXR Slingshot 750 cams, a Holeshot exhaust, 5 deg advancer, Barnet clutch, and stage 2 K&N pods, and it will go past the 170 and wind the needle to the m in the mph, approx 190mph
Here's what you do, take a more rounder hose from the gas tank and put a shut off valve half way in the line where you can get to it. The carbs don't know how much gas they should get. Run with the gas valve three forths open for everyday driving. And when you want to get on it open the valve all the way. You will go 25 miles an hour on the top end. His bike shut down because a lack of gas.
my 97 runs consistent 10.60s in the 1/4 at 125 mph....holeshot performance full exhaust with 38mm flatslide carbs...also slightly stretched with swing arm.....busa eater through the 1/8 mile.....runnin naked!!
@MrMusclefish My 600 is doing 0-60 in 3seconds. i dnt need more then that tbh, i dnt think its worth the extra money for the bike + insurance for a few more torque's
I have a Bandit 1200s and I am wondering just how fast this bike would go without it being shut down at 155mph. I've had mine up to 140mph but still had alot of throttle left. If this bike was not shut down at a certain speed, it could be one of the fastest biles on the road. I have hung with busa's from red light to red light. It's got me wondering. MY name is Rich, Jen's my wife. Could you answer me back highspeed9000. thanks, be safe.....
Why do people go on about speedo error, all bikes/cars speedo.s read optimistically, My zx9r has shown 180 on clock but I know damn well it only 160ish, but hell it still FASSSSST!!!!
5th just lowers rpm, with stock gearing, mine goes same speed in 4th (indicated 155mph ish)
GPS indicates 143mph, might have an extra 5mph on the right day right road, but who really cares. This bike loves 80-120mph in just about any gear. Not high tech, just raw oil cooled big bore power.
I have a Bandit 1200, and the speedo is off by precisely 10% (checked against one of those roadside radars that reads your speed and displays it). So the 155 indicated here is more like 139.5 - lets call it 140. And frankly, I'm pretty sure it will go a few miles an hour faster in 5th gear. Then again...I'm pretty sure at this RPM 139 is still optimistic. Need the year to calculate it. Just put a friggin GPS on the bike and do it again.
so your telling me when im doing 80 passed someone and their speedometer says 70, that both our gauges are inaccurate and were actually going 10 mph slower than what our gauges tell us. Right that makes perfect sense.....
@uni695 so your telling me when im doing 80 passed someone and their speedometer says 70, that both our gauges are inaccurate and were actually going 10 mph slower than what our gauges tell us. Right that makes perfect sense.....
I have seen 165 on my 03 1200s. The fairing really helps. They don't have a limiter chip as far as I know. I purchased mine in Washington state. Only mods are a Leo Vince carbon fiber and jet kit. My 02 600s will pull 150 but the 1200Bandits tail off on power about 10.5K You should have hit 5th :)
The 600 runs mid/high 12s @ 102-107mph in the quarter. A lighter person could prolly do better. The 150 is on the speedo so more like 135 real time but it had more to go. I just didn't have more road and it was taking a while to get more out of it.
The 1200 runs low 11s at about 120mph in the quarter. My co-worker has a 2004 Bandit(no fairing) we clocked his at 162 with my golden eagle dash mount. I have only seen 165 on the speedo for mine but again no more road.
I researched and found that the 1200 handled better on the front end and insurance wasnt much different. I picked up a beautiful 1200 for a good price on auction...so glad I didn't go for another 600.
Also, 145 mph isnt the top speed expected by a bandit. I think mine could easily get over 160 or 165 but I haven't been to any tracks and like my lisence.
prodigy17 Yeah you are right, your r6 would probably just sit there and smoke, you ruined it retard. Probably dropped it 100 times. Good job idiot, You sure do know how to ruin a motorcycle. Damn rookies.
...and this a 'new' 1200S? My first was a '96 and a late change on that was at 7k, jetted was at 8k; you're changing at 10! Top speed? Check your jets. The stock '96 version came round to 140 the same way yours comes round to 155, and stayed there. Thinking about it, I know a fella had a similar set-up who reckoned top whack was 175 with the jets.
...or maybe, like I did once, he forgot he had another gear, cause he was so chuffed the tart on the 916 couldn't keep up away from the lights LOL! He come past with me at about 130, and by the time I'd figured out why my baby was sounding so 'peaky' it was too late :p Stage1 dynojet and an obnoxious endcan still pulls at 165 on a 1200S. Don't know where it capped out, kept running out of road :( The jetting DID sacrifice some horses from the sub 2000rpm area compared to stock though.
Yes indeed highspeed9000 is right, it's aerodynamics and power numbers holding the B12 back from 200mph stardom. Mine will scream like hell to about 155-165 GPS indicated and then just go limp dick on me and won't have much more in it. Unfaired. That has alot to do with it, a bikini fairing or naked all out are not the most aero friendly bikes out there. You want the 200 mark? Buy a busa. Wan't SUPER cheap liter bike thrashing performance on the streets? Buy a bandit 1200! Great vid!
well said my son, am on a bandit12 naked version and it really does hold you back. I have actually seen 160 mph on the clock, maybe thats because the wind was behind me and I was bouncing my bum on the seat singing baa baa black sheep. Sing to your bike - it does wonders!! (ok ok ok , it was around 158 - sorry I lied - male bravado creeping in).
yeah well i passed a morrie thou in top gear on mine, that sucka was rattln like at schoolboy in a whorehouse at 50mph so I took him good!

I had mine at 165 and it's stock as far as I know, besides the Yoshi RS-3 slip-on.

nice one..
it states 155 - 15% (ish) 135-145mph is about the top speed expected by 1200 bandit.
I want one my B6 is too slow...

I researched and found that the 1200 handled better on the front end and insurance wasnt much different. I picked up a beautiful 1200 for a good price on auction...so glad I didn't go for another 600.
adeath13 2 years ago
Also, 145 mph isnt the top speed expected by a bandit. I think mine could easily get over 160 or 165 but I haven't been to any tracks and like my lisence.
adeath13 2 years ago
that's only if they are able to catch you ;)
rwilli1228 2 years ago
lol ^^ I've had 159mph on the clock. I'm happy with that. This is with a Micron can.

Just so you know, your a fag, thanks though. And yea, my r6 would smoke the hell out of this piece of shit.
prodigy17 2 years ago
prodigy17 Yeah you are right, your r6 would probably just sit there and smoke, you ruined it retard.

(ok ok ok , it was around 158 - sorry I lied - male bravado creeping in).

wow i would pee myself going that fast
itscalledfutbol16 3 years ago
I can't believe you got going that fast after just 1st and 2nd gears. That bike is sick!
jcdenton7 3 years ago
i asked around and sounds like top speed on bandits is limited by horsepower and aerodynamics and not a chip. and the speedo is is in MPH.
highspeed9000 3 years ago
There's a rev-limiter, but it kicks in after the power curve starts to drop. The HP actually goes down slightly on the dyno after about 10.5K or so.

Christi999 4 years ago
yo dude whats a speed limited? Where the speed hand can't go any further? or just were a chip says no faster?
joshs088008 4 years ago
The chip limits the bike from going any faster - there is no fuel cutoff or anything like in some cars.
highspeed9000 3 years ago
oh ok
my dad has one, and was very impressed with what his bike can do :D he has a nice exhaust on it.
