Jeff, Thanks for posting this. I wrote a paper in a music class about Bonnie Lou (Cathy), Kenny Price, and some other Midwest country singers. She was/is so talented.
For: jmacnoles. Eddie Bennett was so funny and talented. Loved seeing him on Ruth Lyons. He got a lot of air time on the show. I'm 56 years old and don't know if you are old enough to remember him on Ruth Lyons. He was truly a joy to watch and to hear him playing his trombone.
What was meant by the (Cathy) lady madonna? If you meant that it was her real name, that is not true. I know her personally. Her birth name was Mary Jo Ann Kath. Producers didn't think that Mary Jo was Country enough and changed her name to Bonnie Lou. (actually her middle name was spelled Joan...but pronounced and later spelled Jo Ann
Anymore videos of Paul Baby Dixon....would LOVE to see MORE! Totally loved him and YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS we were "hooked", attended his live show once, got a t-shirt (still have it) and a book signed. Miss YOU Paul Baby! : ) Thanks 4 sharing the videos with us!
Hi! Thank you for uploading the Bonnie Lou video! My Grandfather was Eddie Bennett who played trombone with Cliff Lash and the boys on Ruth Lyons and Bob Braun. I was born on his birthday, Sept 10th. I loved my Grandfather dearly...still do even though he passed away... Do you happen to know how my Mom (his daughter Bonnie Bennett McLean) and I may be able to find videos of him performing? Please help me if you can...Take Care, Jeff
Hi Jeff: I recall your Grandfather from those Ohio television shows! I don't recall or have any video of your Mother, but recall how much joy the Ruth Lyons & Paul Dixon casts brought to folks like my Mother!
I've always loved Bonnie Lou. I do wish she had "Cowboy's Sweetheart" on video. She's a heck of a yodeler and could hold her notes longer than just about anyone. I also remember Dottie Mack on WLW TV. She was an attractive gal who was the first to ever pantomine to the hits. Thanks. - Paula
"And committed to a huge database". You should be committed. Cincinnati people are mean spitited and ugly.Grew up in Cincy, and I remember Paul and Ruth and Bob with love and affection. Now Cincinnati is just "old town, bad attitiude... nothing.
Bonnie Lou is 83 or 84 now. Amazing. She IS a treasure. Everyone from the 50/50 Club who's still alive should be debriefed extensively and the results committed to a huge database. Ruth Lyons remains the biggest thing that ever happened to Cincinnati media--20 years after her death.
Bonnie Lou is a treasure! There was a great article about her in the Enquirer a few months back. Youtube doesn't allow links to be posted but if you search Google for "Bonnie Lou: last star shining" you can find it.
Wow...those of us in that area as kids must have watched all the local shows. Wasn't Flippo's real name Bob Marvin?! I remember when Flippo came to my school...you'd think it was Elvis!
It wasn't Marvin-when I remember,I'll let you know-when I was 12(1972) my friend and I looked him up before a show @ Ohio State Fair w/o makeup - and he denied being Flippo-we were rolling laughing-he was busted-what about Bob Sheve? The late night movie host???
I believe both now live in Florida, and, at least Bonnie, splits her time there and in the Cincinnat area. As recently as 8 years ago, Bonnie was still performing...and may still be, but I haven't lived in Ohio since then.
Also, Marion Spelman?? I finer woman you would never meet. Met her back in the 70,s while they were all on Paul Babys show. Would love an update on all these fine people. Thanks for any info!!
Classic and thank so very much for adding this. I loved watching Bob Braun and Paul Dixon. I was a little girl at that time. I was elementary age. These shows were a part of my childhood. Where did you get this may I ask? Let me know please.
