Listen to him, then consider all the garbage and empty phrases that come out of the mouths of our "leaders". Better yet, think about Palin. She should be banned from making statements about ANYTHING, except on comedy shows.
@Namely82 Best description of his Tractatus-Foolio Pretentiousicus EVER! :D
A BRILLIANT MAN, Russell...I don't agree with all of his ideas, mainly because I'm also a great fan of Nietzsche's work, and...well, if you don't know how Russell felt about HIM, it's here on YouTube (one of the few judgments I think Russell ever really blew, really...but then most of his era misinterpreted Nietzsche as he did.)
To Bertrand Russell--if only we could trade that arrogant fool Dawkins for you back!
@obiwanobiwan13 I don't think Dawkins is quite as arrogant as everyone seems to think, I just prefer Russell's approach to religion over Dawkins', and that of any of the 'New Atheists'.
It was a different world - in fact I'd say it was a more secular world, the problems of fascism, and communism, the rising American military power, the relative secularism in the Arab world (even Afghanistan had a communist movement) probably allowed Bertrand breathing space, while the religious took a deep breath for their next round of infringing.
@TheDensley7 What do you mean? Philosophy is doing just fine. Wittgensteins theories kicked of the schools of everyday language philosophy - a school completely obliterated by criticism. Wittgenstein presented no coherent theory, but laid out a programme, so to say, in which philosophers could work. Many of his points are still valid. But it hasn't been the end of philosophy in any way.
@Namely82@obiwanobiwa13 - Just for the record 'Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus' is not Wittgenstein's title (which was Logisch-Philosophische Abhandlung) but GE Moore's suggested name for the English translation, named after Spinoza's Tractatus Theologico-Politicus (which was written in Latin).
one of the main extrovertic modern thinkers.. got his book as a gift for my b;day-> the History of modern philosophy.. he has realy good sense of humor:P and he can do it with a philosophy..:P
A love this guy. I'm serious, can someone give me the coordinates to where he is burried? I'm going to start praying in that direction 5 times a day. ;P
I understand why this guy had so many wives, I know this sounds really strange, but I get orgasms by watching him speak.... the expressions in his eyes.... (I know, disgusting and creepy)
@dinkolino2 Your link doesn't work, but if its about nuclear weapons, you have to know that Einstein was acused by the public for same things but they didn't agree about using it as a waepon but as a fear protection.
I did, evidently many many more years than yourself if your comment is anything to go by. You know what my researches concluded? That's right, it's a pity people like you were not included in any of those eugenics programs ;-) Now shhh. Numpty.

Any time a theist tries to tell you that we atheists are fools, tell them Bertrand Russell was one.

Amazing to think that when he says 'when I was 4 years old' he's taking about events which happened in 1876.

@obiwanobiwan13 Wittgenstein brought an end to philosophy - his theories are very hard to refute.
TheDensley7 5 months ago
@TheDensley7
Which is funny, since he was arguing a lot against his own theories to see if they hold up. I wish more people had that kind of open mindedness.
