Btw, any election victory by Pan-Blue Forces will certainly affect the pro-democratic forces in Mainland. By halting Taiwan's Independence, the KMT has brought time for us to engage the CCP. If the DPP is in power, CCP will certainly use this as an excuse to stifle democratic demands. Furthermore, the Taiwanese compatriots should know its the party who aim missle at Taiwan not us, the Mainland people, since the 'People's Liberation Army' reports to the Party, not to the People.
excuse me! no one is going to teach anyone a lesson! Taiwan is an independent country that the United States has has a treaty with that we would support them . . until Jimmy Carter messed it up and broke his promise because he was a coward and he thought it would be easier to break his promise to a little country that treats its citizens with dignity and freedom . . instead of standing up to a country that kills its own citizens and does not allow the freedom to even vote for what they want.
The western media simply don't want to say the word "Chinese" the nationalist parties' offical name is the Chinese Nationalist Party not nationalist party.
if DPP has the guts to proclaim independence they should have done that before, chen is a coward stupid dog, he only knows how to bark, but he didn't do anything to prove himself.
the DPP's corruption is really too much.they had lots of promises but turned out lies. and they still think that the people of Taiwan are stupid enough to give them another chance. if KMT will betray Taiwan they should have done that long time ago. Now Taiwan is nothing, economically downfall. bec. of the DPP administration. and
Firstly, the PRC is technically not a "communist" state, but a one party, somewhat socially authoritarian state with a hell of a more capitalist economy than we do in the West.
Secondly, how you and I see Human Rights is different from how other people see what Human Rights is.
Lanuiiohuu: One of the key reasons for DPP's landslide loss is prices increased significantly in 2007, while salaries stayed FLAT. U.S., Japan, and Europe are heading to recession in 2008. If these people vote for DPP again in March 2008, they're really going to SUFFER GREATLY this year. And they'll have no one but themselves to blame.
Obbyto: Plenty of dumbasses in Taiwan voted for Chen Shui-bian in 2000 and 2004, just like Americans who voted for Guantanamo Bush twice. Anyway, they get what they voted for and thus suffer the consequences. Hope they've learned their lesson and won't repeat their MISTAKE again in March 2008.
I don't live in HK nor ever to be a Chinese citizen. No democracy in China = no Taiwan-China union. How many people share your view that there is still war between China and Taiwan? Beside, the US is a superpower too, is Canada and Mexico part of the US? You can say whatever you want about "the war", but I doubt your view has a market in Taiwan.
Sorry to say, I don't hide in HK or believe in "American version" of democracy and freedom to work everywhere. I just can't see Taiwan as part of Communist China if China continues to be a communist nation.
Mercedesci: China turned CAPITALIST 16 years ago. Have you been sleeping all this time? For someone like you living in Hong Kong, just cross the border into China on the weekend. Check it out.
Capitalist China doesn't turn out to be democratic, is it not? Again, I am not living in HK, nor I doubt Chineses now are more interested in cash than vote. However, if China doesn't have universal suffrage, why Taiwaneses can trust PRC to allow it to continue their elections and freedom? And what to gain for a free nation to be union with a oligarchy government of China?
BTW, have you ever select your own government by vote? Have you ever decide your own future by vote? If you love dictatorship so much, "China is rich and powerful now", who do you think it cares about now? Poor workers and farmers as it promised, or rich businessmen and government officials? I hope you are one of the later ones, what do you think?
If you love war so much, why don't you start to advocate war against Taiwan now? If you are one of China's top leaders, I can assure you that 99% of Taiwaneses will immediately vote for Independence and China can do nothing about it, because China is too rich to risk loosing everything now.
Sorry, as long as Taiwaneses choose to be freemen in a small nation, instead of being slaves of a "great power", I don't see Taiwan to be "a part of China" any time soon.
according to the international regulation, if you acknowledge taiwan as "republic of china" it indicates that u have admitted taiwan as one independet country, which is againist the official declaration made by 192ountries and many other international bodies when they have determined to tie the diplomatic relations with China that THERE IS ONLY ONE CHINA IN THE WORLD, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA IS THE SOLE LEGAL GOVERNMNET REPRESENTS CHINA,TAIWAN IS PART OF CHINA.
Who cares about what you two think about Taiwan's status? Do you see any Taiwanese vote for 'reunification' or support the communist party of PROC? Before PROC has democratic election and free press, you two can forget about "Taiwan being part of China".
there do have democratic election in China, take a look at the grassroot election in the rural part of China, and the election of the people's representatives for the NPC. i dont know what kind of "free press" u r talking? why al jazeera was forbidden in US? can u find any official newspaper or magazine from mainland in taiwan???and why speeches from leaders of AL-Qaeda r banned from public??
How many people vote? Who vote? Did you vote in China? The US is not perfect and Taiwan is deeply troubled by partisian issues, but do you serious believe China is more free and more democratic than the US and Taiwan?
Seems like this years' Olympic games is more stable than ever. I think only the KMT can keep the straits peaceful for a long term. Let's hope this year's presidential elections also goes to the KMT (or Pan Blues) I congratulate on the people of Taiwan for making the correct decision for now.
I have doubts about how much the reason was political policy regarding China, the sentiment is probably more related to the badly preforming economy...
A few years ago, a poll in Taiwan indicated far more support unification with China than independence. However, the largest percentage responded as undecided. Tt would seem that many of the undecided have now made a decision.

China: killing its own people, most recently at March 14th.
Taiwan: no killings after 1947 massacre.

The strict non-liberal state communism under CCP is not either capitalism or a free society. Red is always bad towards human rights.
