Expectations of privacy? Absolutely. Case in point, many people rent their living space, does this give the owners the right to spy on them? It is there property. By the way, with all the different ways of tracking stolen property how did that school come to choose secret video activation? I for one question their motives.
Didn't you go over the school thing already? Or is it yet another incident? The whole thing is ridiculous, though. They should be allowed to complete their work on their own computers. Who cares as long as the work is done? Well, I care, since the DoE should be abolished. But besides that, it's none of their business. It's in-your-face obvious that this technology would be used for nefarious purposes. It's pretty much guaranteed.
Your question on privacy at work, or using company equipment conflicting with privacy can be said for the students using school property and having them keep track of their property. It seems that whenever a underage (minor) is involved somehow it always comes back to some old guy in a trench coat. Remember, it isn't always the way the news portrays it. Remember, it is all about ratings.
privacy is nonexistent...not outside your home & not inside your home. i heard yrs ago that even our tv's, tv digital boxes, computers, tech gadgets, cell phones are equiped w/mics & cameras. thats thee spyprogram that "bush" elitists passed. why do U think they encouraged tv digital box programs & lend'g techware to students thats be'g done in a number of schools. it's even in our tv's!!! @DEMCAD Texas is is not anti-gun. The concealed carry does require a fee and backgrounnod check but is straight foward and they require a class. They do allow you to carry a weapon in your vehicle with no permit if you meet basic requirements such as not a gang memeber et....
If a laptop or phone is stolen, the owner has the right to access it and see every image it can record after it has been stolen. The thief has no right of privacy.
If you use a computer or phone at work, its not yours, and you should not expect privacy from your employers property either.
Assume you are always being watched. Eve's dropped and recorded. It is the only safe presumption. Schools that force your kids to use their computers, convienient or controling?
There should be some privacy at work, but I don't think it's wrong for businesses to have some access or the ability to verify that you're following some basic guidelines with regard to use of work office equipment.
If there's a camera anywhere that I have control of, I won't tolerate it being pointed at me even if "it's not activated". For example this cool little netbook I bought the other day has a webcam above the screen. The first thing I did after testing it was stick a post-it note over it. Not that anyone would want to see my ugly ass but privacy is important so the post-it goes on.
can you have a private moment in the restrooms at work? i swear it looks like a camera in the ceiling tile above the stall. no the swat guy should have used his own cell phone to send dirty msg, didn't he hear what happened to kwame?
YOU GET PAID TO WORK... NOT to play around on the computer or hang out on Facebook, or sending nudy pics to friends or whatever. Do that crap on your OWN time AT HOME with YOUR OWN COMPUTER! Should you expect ANY privacy either at work or with work related phones or computers? HELL NO!
kind of creepy?are you kidding?...and here i'm reading about idiots concerned about people being seen masturbating....a bunch of fools.fools that will soon be on their knees with their heads in guillotines.
I just saw a news story on copier security risks, it also could become a work privacy issue. Many people don't know the newer copiers have hard drives that contain images of anything copied on them.
CBSNews YouTube story "Copy Machines, a Security Risk"
That same volcano back in 1789 spewed out poisonous gases that killed people in the British Isles. Back in 1789 the amount of dust spewed out of this Iceland caused a lowering of the global temperature and reduced sunlight which caused famines in Europe at that time.
This is why you have to be prepared. If Yellow Stone park ever blows up, it will be SHTF time.
If your company gives you something for company use... don't misuse it. If your school gives you a laptop to take home.... don't use it at home.. Obviously they may and more than likely will have someone perving out and watching you on the built in webcam. Think about it, they have to hire some IT guys to look after the laptops. A lot of IT guys are super nerds. what do you expect?
IMO, there is a limited expectation of privacy at work. This would be during breaks, when you are on your private time and not on company time. Also obviously when using the restroom. However, I don't believe there is an expectation of privacy when you are on your own personal time while using company resources/equipment. Companies should always be able to know what their equipment is being used for... unless they are renting it out to another party.
What would happen to you or me if we hacked into someones computer and took pics of them every fifteen minutes? I know they didn't hack into these laptops, but how the hell can they keep taking photos of kids for days and weeks and its just ok. You know at some point they snapped nude photos of the kids, that's child porn. Sick bastards!
I'm glad you made the comment about the 45 year old perverts spying on young teens in their rooms, because that's exactly what it is! A bunch of old perverts getting their jollies. That's child porn and I hope they rot in hell.
People need to keep contact with their family members while at work and we should have the privacy to do so. So what if the guy sent some flirts to his girlfriend? That's a matter between him, the wife, and the girlfriend. Employers really don't have any reason to spy on employees, unless they suspect some type of fraud. I say "lay off!"
Hmm no privacy at work with company equipment and no privacy at home with school equipment. If your school or work gives you something like that, dont us it in any way that will get you in trouble. Or at least put a piece of tape over the camera or take the dam batteries out.
@skyding8962 i hope they do face those charges...and i hope they are convicted...its a scumbag thing to do...thing is the school officials thought ...in their demented minds, that it was ok ..it never occured to them that it might be WRONG...yet a kid draw a calvin and hobbs cartoon bombing the school they send them to alternative school for a zero tolerance offense.
@DEMCAD - I think the kids from the school should find a photo of two people sleeping all hugged up, photoshop a couple of faculty members' heads on the bodies, place the pics out in front of the cameras and leave them on all night...a few different photos with different poses of the same two people would be extra nice...
...it's art, sort of. the first amendment would protect that, no? I think the ACLU needs to be called, after all, they helped the kids in florida that had the t-shirts (cont)
I'm all for privacy rights, but the interesting thing is that there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing privacy rights. Property rights, yes. Privacy rights, are they implied?
What would be more awesome is if every state does what arizona is about to do soon in regards to illegal aliens. Arrest anyone suspected of being an illegal and ban day laborers and arrest those who transport them.
You can't have any privacy anymore. The tech is too good too hide. I had to check up on a problem tenant. Googled him, turns out he was in jail several days before. It was posted on the net within days. Public info fools. Get with the program and don't commit crimes. The future'll be worse for your privacy.
Hey DEMCAD, I hear there's an arsonist on the loose in Flint. Gonna do a video on it? Think some scumbag is taking advantage of the cuts in the fire dept. If you see someone starting a fire at your neighbors you better bust out that mossberg and send a blast their way so the fire doesn't spread to your house.
If you intend for your actions to be private, they should remain that way. While it may not be good practice to screw off at work with stuff they're paying for, it doesn't give them a right to invade your private conversations. Why should having a job negate your privacy?
If you didn't have to get a permit for it then it would be legal for a huge criminal, or like a completely insane schizophrenic to carry a gun on them? I don't think I would support that in Arizona, I like people having to have a permit to carry. Also, about something different you talked about...I am a 14 year old student, and I keep tape over my webcam, because of this...
@mike101bc smart thing to do...do you have to carry the laptop home?...i think id keep it at school and use my own at home...if i could...i dont like the idea of requiring kids to use and keep laptops...anything the write could be logged with keystroke loggers...and you could be accused of doing things you were only discussing ..or things could be taken out of context to accuse you of something you didnt do
Yeah but if you got a gun then you don't have anything to worry about. And people who are schizophrenic are not a danger to society. I have an uncle who is schizophrenic and he wouldn't harm anyone.
I do believe in the workplace certain areas should be private but mainly work is work. You have to follow the company's policy or they will hire someone else.
