You have to maintain control of the ball throughout the process, which includes after you are down, the small celebration that you are still allowed, in the showers, while you are in the cab back to your room, and on the flight back home. Then, if an official takes the ball from your cold dead hands, it's a touchdown catch.

The rule enforced at least two times last year that I recall. States that if you are in the act of catching the ball and hit to the ground by a defender that you MUST stand up with both feet with the ball secure. Which he did not get up on both feet with the ball. Maybe he missed the memo on the rule, its not the refs fault for enforcing what they are told are the rules.

That lame ass rule contradicts the rule where all the ball has to do is break the plane. Ive seen over and over where a player dives over the goal line and drops the ball. Then they say he only has to break the plane. If CK more than broke the plane. Thats where the play should and and anything after should be mute. If he bobbles it, thats a different story and then that rule applies. In this case CK has possession , control and lands on both feet. Play is supposed to be over at that point..

The official closest to the player called it a touchdown, the ref down the sideline ran up and said incomplete. Which in effect, overruled the original official, so the ruling on the field was incomplete pass. If they didn't review it, it still would have been an incomplete pass, so they reviewed it to make sure. Also if you look at the replay Johnson's left hand closes quickly like he lost his grip, If he was placing it or tossing the ball his hand wouldn't have done that.

The refs made the right call. Complain about the rule if you want, but the refs did what they were supposed to do. They can't go making up rules just because they think it's wrong, they have to follow the book.
Those stupid hands to the head roughing the passer rules are retarded, but they have to be called because they are in the book.
The way I see it. Matt Forte held on to the ball, Calvin Johnson didn't. Bears win.

Casinos should be banned from betting on pro and college sports but that won't happen because our politicians are so corrupt that they probably make a fortune from betting on these fixed, corrupt games themselves.

That lame ass rule contradicts the rule where all the ball has to do is break the plane. Ive seen over and over where a player dives over the goal line and drops the ball. Then they say he only has to break the plane. If CK more than broke the plane. Thats where the play should and and anything after should be mute. If he bobbles it, thats a different story and then that rule applies. In this case CK has possession , control and lands on both feet. Play is supposed to be over at that point..

You obviously do not understand the rule. It was the right call because the rule states that you must maintain possession of the ball if the ball hits the ground while in your hands. Getting 2 feet down or landing on your ass does not matter. If you catch a ball and it hits the turn and comes loose it is incomplete. The only person that screwed the lions was Calvin Johnson. Use two hands next time dumbass.

The official closest to the player called it a touchdown, the ref down the sideline ran up and said incomplete. Which in effect, overruled the original official, so the ruling on the field was incomplete pass. If they didn't review it, it still would have been an incomplete pass, so they reviewed it to make sure. Also if you look at the replay Johnson's left hand closes quickly like he lost his grip, If he was placing it or tossing the ball his hand wouldn't have done that.

this was a touchdown. the rules i just posted are the official rules. you cannot read them out of context. they simply state "he must maintain control of the ball AFTER he TOUCHES the ground. he clearly had possession of the ball after touching the ground 5 times.. it wasn't until he was LAYING on the ground that the ball comes out of his hand. he touched the ground with possession of the ball. TD, end of story

I don't even watch football, i don't have a favorite team. the rules are common sense and common sense says this was a great touchdown.

He had control of the ball for almost exactly one second. He caught the ball, landed on his ass and rolled over and lost the ball instantly. That means ti was INCOMPLETE. That is the rule. You can continue to run around and pretend you know more than the NFL officials and the professions with years of experience but in the end it was the right call. Get over it. Bears win.

And i don't see how you can misread the rule. he clearly has possession as he touched the ground. i don't care if it was only 1 whole second. he had obvious possession. he wasn't bobbling the ball as he came down. he touched down, and had clear possession. I think the rule reads fine. even if the bears still won, its a bad interpretation of the rule by the "lead official"

@Love9Killed4Kurt Hang on a sec... the rule states that if you are going down while in the act of catching the ball, but he had caught the ball and then tried to spring forward to celebrate, falling and losing control of the ball. During the review they clearly stated that if he caught it before making a "second act" and in making that "second act" lost the ball, It was still a TD.

Look it up in the rule book, they don't determine games and wins/losses by what dumbass fans think is fact, the outcome is determined by, in this case, a call, that was 100% right according to the official NFL rulebook. He was in bounds, the ball was in bounds and one ref ruled it a touchdown but then some ref didn't like how the ball landed on the ground!?!?! I've seen touchdowns when the ball lands OUT OF BOUNDS and it counted. The NFL is corrupt and the game was fixed so the Bears could win at home for the sold out stadium.
