I used to think that this concerto was quite boring, especially the third movement... and that the Burlesque was ok... And then I realized what a twit I was. This is an absolutely brilliant concerto. If I could ever write anything 1/20 as good, I would consider my life well spent
An absolutely great performance. Haven't heard it played like this since Naja Salerno-Sonnenberg played it live, with the Minnesota Orch. in 2004. BRAVO!
normally the part he plays between 4:21 - 4:39 is played only by the orchestra and the soloist comes in at 4:40. so cool that he played it. very unexpected. great performance!!

repin is the god of speed.
when i was watching his prokofiev 2 i didn't expect him to go too fast so when he started the last movement at a suicidal tempo i nearly shat myself

this is certainly one of the most difficult cadenzas written for the violin..

@ClassicalMusique1 actually it's not too bad if you're good at beating the crap out of the instrument with the bow arm :D

@xoxCarlyx7 That's because he plays the original version. Shostakovich removed some 20 bars or so for Oistrakh to take a breath.
