Actually trial lawyers are as much in the pockets of the Left (The D party) as the Unions are. It is that the left that is preventing 'loser pays', and tort reform, because the trial lawyers are largely against it.
That's a little truth for you that you won't accept. Now go and delete my comment.
Most people don't know that the famous hot coffee lawsuit - was NOT frivolous! The coffee burned through the cup -- it was BOILING hot - scalded the old lady!! Burns required skin graff. Sounds funny "old lady sued over hot coffee" BUT REALLY NOT FUNNY!!

No one will really believe how true this is-which makes it even more tragic that it is so true. Perception is reality. In almost 10 years of focus groups and research, I have never had anyone be able to tell me of a case they know of personally where a jury gave someone a bunch of money in a frivolous lawsuit-yet they still maintain that such lawsuits are a problem. They all say "McDonalds coffee" not knowing the facts of that case. People are shocked when I tell them the facts.
This is tragically the way the judicial system is perceived by many. It is a system designed to get at truth fairly, but right wing media fueled by the corporate lobbying/PR departments of corporations opposing a human's rights in our society, have so badly twisted the public's perception that this parody is true. It's a shame when folks absorbing the shock of a significant injury learn what this propaganda has done to their chances in court, even more so when it's a conservative.
As a lawyer who does take the occassional case against physicians, I have to say that this video is right on the money. Everybody is a tort reformer until they think that they have a case.

Good job capturing the "everyone's lawsuit is frivolous but mine" phenomenon. Hits close to home.
