@xobreebreeox woah, I completely forgot about posting that comment. I agree with you, I reckon. I think I just wanted to hear Lea Michele belt it out cause I loooooooove her belt voice. :P
OH. MY. GOD. My school did Once On This Island as our school musical and I was in it. I found this video and I was like, "OH MY GOD LEA MICHELE KNOWS THIS MUSICAL EXISTS!"
Not what i expected from Lea Michele . She seems feistier than this. But it's nice. Check out my version of the song on my page if you get a chance. Let me know what you think. Thanks
what do you mean not for a white gitl to sing. Im white and Ive played ti moune (but im defenetly not as good as Lea) i wanna see yoy try to sing it you racist pig!
I have a lot of respect for Lea Michele. I think her voice is amazing. But, I've played Ti Moune. This is a disappointment. This song is loud, proud and bold, but Lea's version is just like a generic love song. It's meant to be belted. You're meant to be sweating and completely out of breath by the end of it. I expected better from Lea Michele :( LaChanze knocks her out of the park, I'm sorry. Though, Lea's voice is spectacular.
i love listening to her stuff before glee! she's amazing on glee, don't get me wrong, but i think true fans ar the ones who liked her before she was on tv
i think she sounds wonderful! i would not want to watch lea try to sing like lachanze, that would be lame. she put her own spin on it which is admirable and idk ppl are saying she changed the key, i dont think she did?
Why is she singing this in a lower key than the original, and then mixing on top of that? One or the other would be fine, but both just makes this song seem a lot less exciting. In my opinion, this performance is really lacking in passion overall.
Using the music from "Gliding" from RAGTIME underneath the beginning of the song was...weird.
I like Lea's voice at times, but her performance of this song was just not that impressive. Search for LaChanze singing it - either the original Broadway recording or from a benefit performance she did in 2002 (about 10 years after the original Broadway show). In a word: AMAZING!
She's not belting this song like it's meant to belted. I love her but u don't sing, "Waiting For Life To Begin" and not belt it, especially when you CAN belt it!
Are you drunk? She's obviously mixing most of the time here, and belting on a few notes. I'd say as far as note placement goes, this is pretty much identical to LaChanze's version.
This is in no way identical to LaChanze's version. Lachanze is far more impressive than Lea Michelle anyway. Lechanze uses belting and a an immensely strong mix. Unlike this. Did you listen to the key change? It was just not strong enough in my opinion.
If you listen to the portion after the key change, however, you'll hear that all of the notes on the higher end of the song's range are clearly mixed or belted. You can't dispute with the fact that those notes wouldn't sound anything like this if she were using head voice.
@beffcow I feel that her timbre is just too unlike LaChanze's to be identical. Even if the placement is similar, they just sound very different to me (Both are incredible)
She's not feeling the song. The right emotion doesn't come through in her voice.

"a stranger, racing down the BEACH" hard not to sharp that note, and she was sharp, but she has an amazing instrument. She'll get there.

Am I just crazy or are they playing the beginning of "Gliding" from Ragtime at the top of the song?
Or is that the real beginning of waiting for life?
bellaluce 2 years ago
This was part of a cabaret she did, so her voice was probably worn out a lil' bit and she didn't want to belt all ten+ songs she sang.
I still think she belts/mixes the right parts, and it's fine. :)
KaitlynCwriter 2 years ago
the song doesnt have to be belted. she sounded amazing.

@beffcow not really. LaChanze belts like crazy. She belts things that are too low to belt. And least she's softer and only belts in the strong parts
