Although the highlights on this scene was for yoda I want to say that Marc Hamill the actor that played Luke did this scene and the rest of the movies without a stunt man and that is so awesome
Luke staring at the sunset on Tatooine, Han getting frozen in carbonite ("I love you"/"I know"), Luke watching Darth Vader's body burn on the funeral pyre, and Yoda raising the X-Wing.
Yoda was a wise Master, but when Luke disobeyed him and went to save his friends (and the galaxy), he was actually acting inspired by the Force, and Yoda was just being a traditional old Jedi, but my point is that Luke´s faith in the Force became even higher than Yoda´s, and I don´t think so many people realize that.
@CanalTal no man.... he didnt have "more" faith.... it's more of an enlightenment thing. Once youre there, youre there. Do you think a Sam-dong has less faith than a Lama?
@Rahavin1 Yes, but Yoda also had faith, and Luke wouldn´t have made it without his support and training. But in the end Luke´s faith in the Force surpassed Yoda´s.
@CanalTal its not about faith. its about trusting your self. if you dont trust in your self and do what you can then you never succed. that is what its about.
Yoda in Empire and Jedi was so much better than the prequel Yoda. He was an actual puppet and looked more life like, he was a believable real character. I do believe they used a puppet in parts of episode 1 also, but the Empire and Jedi Yoda like I said was way better.
I remember watching when it first came out in theatres. I was 57 years old, and it was just so maaagical when you found out that little green dude is Yoda and you hear Obi Ones voice saying "So was I when you taught me" as that smoothing music sets in in the back ground. So amazing, so maaaagical, and it seemed like a mystery to me, such an amazing maaagical feeling. Then the GODDAM prequels came out and ruined EVERYTHING!!!!!
After he fails, he is visibly upset yet calm and breathing slowly. In the next scene, he is violently tired 1:57 . What was the three foot walk back to yoda that hard Luke?
The sad thing is the Prequels show Lucas doesn't really 'get' the mythology of his own creation, or why its beloved by so many. Lucas sees the force, jedi, lightsabers, and special effects as just shiny objects that he can throw at the viewer to distract them. Having the force become a number, something you can test for and quantify, strips the series of that mythic, almost religious quality.
Yoda trained Luke the philosphy and spiritual value of the force and what a Jedi is, the lightsaber combat didn't mean much to Yoda as it was not the most important element.
What we see here is an overall progression in the Jedi's understanding of the Force. I the Star Wars prequels we see the Force as something that can be measured. During the time when Yoda and Obi-Wan exile themselves into hiding, they commune with Qui-Gon Jin who has become one with the Force. And I imagine they are schooled in the deeper understanding of the Force that we see Yoda demonstrate here. So it is possible a new understanding is found in the new Jedi Order.
Yoda's dialogue in Empire and Jedi are so much better than the Prequels. In this Prequel's he will say something that "sounds" wise, but really aren't. Turning the Force into something that could be measured was the worse move Lucas ever made, and Star Wars has been less ever since.
@NeoDMC Don't worry there is hope. it's been explained later that midichlorians ARE NOT the force.
They are more or less considered gateways or doors that allow the force to flow into you. The force is in everything, living, dead, non-living, organic, non organic, animate or inanimate. Everywhere! Even in non jedi/sith. However Jedi/Sith tend to have a higher concentration of these midichlorians which allow more flow into a user, theory being it makes you stronger (more force = more power)
@NeoDMC However a person with less midichlorians can still have more force than a person with more. An example would be comparing yoda to Anakin. Yoda was much more powerful than him but anakin had more midichlorians.
@omegamer09 He IS some drunken crackpot talking out of his ass. He's not wise, or connected to the Force - he neglects half of it! He's the epitome of the indoctrination of the Jedi, and refuses to teach both Anakin and Luke because they're too old when they come to him to be indoctrinated into treating his every platitude like wisdom. Mace, Obi-wan, all the others revered him because they'd been taught to from birth, not because he earned it.
@MolikrothYT You claimed that he's a crackpot. You're wrong. He was playing a part to see who Luke was. You claim that he's not wise or connected to the Force. You're wrong. Yoda is more knowledgeable about the Force than ANYONE in the SW continuity, and is clearly connected to the Force as shown in the video. You say he neglects the teachings? Then how is he indoctrinated to the Jedi if he neglects them?
Maybe YOU should read your posts more carefully before posting them. Slugger.
@topster88 he neglects the "dark side"; that's not exactly well-versed in the Force. By neglecting it based on some ancient dogma he's less connected to it than someone like Jacen Solo or Vergere, and all he ever does is spout platitudes. People are going to die? MOURN THEM DO NOT, MISS THEM DO NOT. FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD.
@MolikrothYT You mean that he neglects teaching the dark side of the Force to Luke? Yeah, because the dark side is synonymous with evil. Why would Yoda want to teach the last hope of the galaxy the ways of the Sith and risk him turning to the Emperor?
And that quote is from the PT which IMO shouldn't exist in canon with the rest of the SW universe
@topster88 Agreed about the prequels. No question.
As for the dark side being synonymous with evil; again I cite both Vergere and Jacen Solo as proof of concept of the theory of Potentium (which I suggest you read about on the Star Wars wiki, it's some interesting stuff).
I have a feeling R2-D2 stands for Robot 2- Dumbbot 2. I mean seriously, don't beep talk so much, they need concentration and you're breaking it R2.
