When I list a movie and pay the listing fee of say 25 cents, is that a one time charge no matter if it doesn't sell and I relist it or do I get hit with that fee more than once? I'm a former eBay Platinum Powerseller just checking in to say that you're right. eBay is all about RAZOR thin prices as you say. Specializing in products (developing a nicihe) is the key to success, but people shopping eBay come for great prices and hard to find items. Generally they want 35% below retail, and they also have to consider shipping as part of the purchase decision.

However, there are many items that are for sale that do not need a seller who can advice them.

Jewellery, for example, people just go for the best prices as long as they like it and it has the proper gold/silver markings.

I think it is more difficult that he makes it seem to find a niche in a market. Not everyone can step up to a guaranteed line of products. That is the real key to eBay. Finding a constant supply of product! I am an eBay powerseller that is how I know.

So people would rather pay 40/20 pounds/bucks extra because the seller throws in a cook book and specializes in the beef jercky business. i'd rather buy a beef jercky maker for a much cheaper price, i don't care of their knowledge about the item nore the cook book so i sure as hell am not going to pay more for the item.

You're right, some people will seek the lowest price no matter what, but there are many others who won't - that's the point I'm trying to make. As a seller, it's far more profitable to go for those who care about more than just price.
