Of course the G35/37 are very mechanically similar to the 350/370z, but there are significant differences. The Z's are lighter, have different ECU mapping, shorter wheelbases (more nimble handling), and typically have more track-oriented suspensions out of the factory. They also have a slightly different exhaust system. IMO, the best Z33's are the 05 base model (Iess than 3200lbs and kinks worked-out), and the 07-08 HRs, which can run low to mid 13's at 104-108mph.
@Rluq 250lbs really doesn't make much difference. Seriously you may not believe me but for what the G is its insanely light compared to the Z. Idk if the G37 is much heavier then the G35 tho.

It's not hard to make a good track car and drag car. BMW did it with the 335I. It does amazing things on the quarter with few mods and is near 50/50 weight distribution. That is about as good as you can get right there
i own a 350z and they are a horrible platofrm for drag racing, but they do amazing on road courses. It's just like 240s great for track horrible for drag. It's hard to have a track car be a good drag car and vice versa.
@cdawg1113 I've owned 2 350z's (an 05 with the DE engine, and an 07 with the HR, both 6-speed), and they're not that bad for 1/4 mile drags. They're trickier to launch than a live rear-axle car, and you have to slip the clutch correctly and launch at the right RPM every time. There are people running 13.1's and 13.2's in stock HR 350z's, so they can't be THAT bad for 1/4 mile runs. I've never run quite that fast in mine, but I used to bracket race and do decently with it.

Lol the intake you refer to in the G has built in sound resonators. The Z doesn't, hence why make G owners swap in the Z tube. It adds no power, simply sound. How do I know? I've done it, and had before/after dynos. I gained next to nothing. Secondly, how is the exhaust setup different? The Z's exhaust is 6 inches shorter than the G's. Besides that, same damn thing. If it was that much better, don't you think many G owners modding on a budget would swap to the Z's exhaust?
The early models, yes. The later Z's are around 3300 lbs depending on the trim level. The G coupe is around 3400. Both are dry weights. Remember, I'm talking pre HR Z's. The 350z seems to have a slight edge on paper, but video after video, race after race they are just about neck and neck.

250lbs makes between 2 and 3 tenths of a second difference when both cars have equal power, gearing, and drivers. That's quite a bit in the 1/4 mile.

@PijnigeR The G35 and 350Z are not the same. They share many components, but from a racing perspective, the Z is much lighter, has a better intake/exhaust setup, and has more agressive throttle-mapping... and is therefore faster. PS - I've owned both.

Lol the intake you refer to in the G has built in sound resonators. The Z doesn't, hence why make G owners swap in the Z tube. It adds no power, simply sound. How do I know? I've done it, and had before/after dynos. I gained next to nothing. Secondly, how is the exhaust setup different? The Z's exhaust is 6 inches shorter than the G's. Besides that, same damn thing. If it was that much better, don't you think many G owners modding on a budget would swap to the Z's exhaust?

The early models, yes. The later Z's are around 3300 lbs depending on the trim level. The G coupe is around 3400. Both are dry weights. Remember, I'm talking pre HR Z's. The 350z seems to have a slight edge on paper, but video after video, race after race they are just about neck and neck.
I could be wrong, but I've never even heard of this "more aggressive ECU tuning." If you're referring to the whole +7hp/+4tq?? Haha.. Alright..

By more aggressive ECU tuning, I mean better throttle response. Z vs. G, street or track, the Z is faster (comparing the same model year of both). If you haven't owned both cars, you're just mag-racing like the rest of the ricers and knuckleheads here.

I own a G35 coupe. Before I bought it I test drove numerous G's and Z's. If I was looking for a track car I would have gotten the Z. And my father owns a 08 HR Z. But again, that's in a league of its own. I'm not saying you're wrong, it seems like a great concept. But where did you find this info? Again, I'm not saying you're wrong. I love Nissans and I enjoy learning new things about them.

Forreal.. Why are you all arguing? They are both made by Nissan, have the SAME EXACT engine (other than mods if they have mods) but the G37 is way bigger than the Z the G37 is based off of the Altima, would you race an Altima and a 350Z? And neither one of them is crap... Just sayin..

@Valdemar350z Wrong, the G35 has the 3.5L VQ35 V6 whereas the the G37 has the VQ37 3.7L V6 variant. The numbers indicate the displacement of two different engines.

@TrevorrrForevorrr The G37 is not based on the Altima, the Altima is FWD whereas the G37 is RWD. Again a 350Z and a G37 don't have the same engine. A 350Z and a G35 would have the same engine as a G37 and a 370Z would have the same engine.

The G35 is a sports coupe, like the BMW M3. Both are luxury coupes that come with more amenities than the 350Z so they cost more.
