  • R.I.P Richard Carpentor

  • What did I take away from this clip: That neither Brian Blessed nor Judy Dench seemed to have aged in any significant way. What do they eat?!

  • I dont mind everton fc but I hate liverpool fc even more than spurs.

  • M was a troubled youth.

  • it seemed like everyone was in this show at one time or another

  • I thought that was Dame Judi Dench - the credits proved it.

  • i remember seeing repeats of this when i was a kid with frank windsor stratford johns and brian blessed and the follow up series too softley softley

  • so this is were everton get there shittiy theme from, there more like the thin blue line .

  • Dame Judy Dench as I live and breath.

  • YOOOOUUU 'ORNSSSSS!!!!!

  • Judi Dench was cute--and frankly a great lady-

    God bless her

  • COME ON THE HORNETS

  • @dezontk101 We are the Watford!!!

  • I forgot to include the name of the late actor who played the part of PC Ian Sweet. He was Terence Edmond (b Novermber 1939 - d March 2009). RIP

  • Sadly PC Sweet is no longer with us. The actor who played him in the Z Cars series died in March 2009 at the early age of 69. RIP

  • Go the TOFFEEMEN

  • If I am right, they have never replayed this in the last 20 years or more, I think it would go down well..

  • where was PC Sweet?

  • rest in peace Rhys Jones

  • Great theme music, great series!

  • Dame Judy Dench!!!!

  • COYB!!!!!!!!!

  • @xr6lad Ah! Course it is! Thanks.

  • :-))))))))

  • Oh for the days when a british bobby could be respected.

  • EBEPTON

  • Dare I say It , but this show inspired me to join the service. It was a different world then.

Sad as I am,I have the theme on my mobile linked to the Control Room number when I'm called out.

  • that brings back memories i feel old but great

  • Heavens to Jean Hardcastle! How cool to see a young & sexy Judi Dench making a guest appearance on the show in this thrilling clip! I recenly browsed thru her autobiography at a local bookstore & she mentions acting in this highly acclaimed show (there's even a still in her book from that episode!). THANKS for posting this fascinating footage! CHEERS! :-)

  • ZVICTOR 1 to control

  • Why do I expect to see a blue police phone box suddenly materialise in the background...

Seriously, but. Good stuff, mate! Brings back a few memories!!

  • Come on you Hornets.......

  • Wow, a skinny Brian Blessed, and Judi Dench in her late twenties/early thirties. (sexy) Thanks! The irony of this post is I didn't know Blessed was on this old early 60's UK cop show until he decided to sell his soul to the devil on "City Hospital". Before that moment, I happily remembered him from Blackadder Series one, and "I Claudius". I made the mistake of watching "TV Heaven Telly Hell" on Youtube. I thought most American reality shows were bad. "City Hospital", is below low!

  • @strangeones4 On Youtube you can find the obscure theme song from very short lived American TV show called "Mr Broadway". It's composed by Dave Brubeck, and worth your while to find.

  • COME ON YOU BLUE BOYS

    WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY BOYS

  • Fancy Smith? GORDON'S ALIVE!!

  • back in the days when english men live in england

  • @dasgilde

    What does that mean exactly?

Are there no Englishmen left in England now?

  • @dasgilde, it would not have been problem if English men had stayed in England - but, they went all over the world (and wreaked havoc). I figure the world is just returning the kindness...

  • I met Brian Blessed when he was in the then Midland Bank in Newcastle upon Tyne. He was appearing at the Theatre Royal with Peggy Mount. He is a gentleman!

  • for ME grandad xxxxxxxx

  • WATFORD

  • Fancy Smith.

  • YOU ORNS!!!

  • WATFORD

  • The best bit in this theme, is when it turns into Carry On film style music with the sax.

  • @fredo1070

    Definitely!

  • You know our name. Our name is Everton.

  • everton everton everton

its a grand ole team to play for

  • You 'orns!!!!

  • 0:41 - Judi Dench, teenage delinquent. I love it.

  • @lexo30 Well she had to start somewere!:D

  • jimmey ellis from belfast.

  • z cars the greatest..

  • I remember there was a Scouser in Hong Kong when I was a squaddy who taught us the words. From memory: Johnny Todd he stole a Z Car, Just to take his bird a ride, He got caught by Z Victor, Now he's doin' bird inside . . .

  • great to see judy dench

  • EFC EFC EFC EVERTON FOREVER! 132 YEARS OF GLORIOUS FOOTBALL!

  • best ever uk cop show

  • I remember this as a little boy it was a great influence on me to join up. I was told that due to tv being in black and white the cars they used were a light shade of yellow as this did not reflect back as much. Anyone confirm this?

  • This Johnny Keating theme from 1962 was never used on the TV series it was a cover version, the original and best was by Fritz Speagl.

  • @flammasherman And his wife Bridget Spry?? ... btw ... I think Fritz spelled it Spiegl

  • OMG! I actually remember this programme!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • C'MON WATFORD!!!

  • all i can say is z victor one

  • look at brian blessed lol

  • @Rho1963

    And Judi Dench!

  • Funny that two people in the credits are called Burscough and Sefton, both of which are towns in the Liverpool area :)

  • thanx for the memories pal

  • I used to work in Lancaster and saw the real KTJ578 several times - it was the Lancashire Police HORSE BOX!

  • my dad had one of those cars lol

  • Hardly Slider.......no PACE, no performance targets or political correctness back in the 1960's. Mind you they still occasionally hanged the odd innocent person and kicked the occasional confessions out of suspects. But we're told you could leave your front door open.

  • sun hill 60's style

  • where can i get this tv show

  • You can't. Legally anyway. Many of the early ones were broadcast 'live' and no recordings were kept. Shame. Some of the later ones were pre-recorded and therefore tuen-up on VHS/DVD.

  • Crikey - two Oscar winners in that episode! Judi Dench and Colin Welland.

  • this tune will always be famously associated with Everton and not Watford who don't even come out to the tune but only play it for 1 minute 10 mins before kick off

  • W.F.C. here we go, c'mon Watford!!!

  • everton rip off.

plenty teams used to play this once in a while, but like youll never walk alone... its only 1 teams song now.

im a sunderland fan, we used to sing both of the above. now its wise men and paint your wagon ;)

  • Dortmund and Celtic use You´ll never walk alone too...

  • man united once sung YNWA

  • I thought the Zephyr had a four speed manual gear box. That copper would have struggled with an automatic gear box on an urgent call in Newtown.

  • My Zephyr is three speed - column change. It's a MK II.

  • zed victor 1

  • up the toffees :D

  • EVERTON

  • Apparently, hearing this music still puts the sh*ts up Brian Blessed and the other actors from the days when it was all broadcast live from the studio not pre-recorded

  • Forget Judi Dench...........Brian Blessed shaved and sober, now that's nostalgia

  • Come on you toffees!

  • From what I've seen here in the States, this was some show. Rather impressive!

    Thanks for posting, friend!

  • @BootPatrol

I second that emotion! Looks like it was an intelligent & well acted series! Wish it has been shown here in the US! If it ever was, I must have missed it.

  • Great to see a young Judi Dench

  • Just coz they're police doesn't mean they can drive in the middle of the road.

  • Actually, that's right hand drive. British, you understand.

  • I know, I'm a Brit. But they drive along the lines.

  • In other words, riding the center. Now I understand.

    Sorry I misunderstood you, friend.

  • I am now soggy with nostalgia. Thanks for posting - what was the B side again?
